How can I tell if I am using Universal Analytics?
-
On my Google Analytics page it says at the top "Upgrade to Universal Analytics Upgrade to get a deeper understanding of your users through new tools and more accurate data."
Below that it talks about how to do it. I do not see what they are talking about for "Select an account and a property, then click Universal Analytics Upgrade."
But if I can into my change history is shows Changed By-System Property "http://www123.com" started transfer to Universal Analytics processing." This was on May 22nd and it hasn't said anything since. Why does it keep telling me to do it if it already has? It doesn't say transfer complete anywhere so I don't know if it finished or not.
-
Yup that makes sense. I need to change the code.
-
That is exactly what I am seeing. I need to get ecommerce figured out then just do a code replace all at once.
-
ThompsonPaul is right - the activation to Universal does not mean the code has been changed on your website, which is why you'll still see the old _gaq.push code. See my separate answer/screenshot
-
When you go to Admin -> Tracking Info -> Tracking code
If Universal has been activated, but the code has NOT been updated, you will see this;
http://screencast.com/t/FJuKuBDI <--click for screenshot.
-
Just to be clear - upgrading to Universal will NOT change the code on your website's page. You must do that manually yourself.
Clicking the upgrade button in the GA Dashboard will upgrade the GA Dashboard interface, but you must then take the new tracking snippet code it gives you and replace your web pages' old code with this new one.
That make sense?

_gaq.push(['_trackPageview']); This is the closest thing I see in my code. Looking in it yesterday I noticed I have a way to track User IDs which I think is exclusive to Universal. So strange.
-
That isn't there. I looked at the Google documentation and it has a screenshot of what that would look like but I don't have it.
-
Then you're probably already on Universal Analytics. The best way would be to check the tracking code to see if it matches with the UA syntax. If you see something like: ga('send', 'pageview'); in there you're all set and ready to use Universal Analytics.
-
Hello Niner52,
It sounds like the transfer may have been initiated, but not yet completed. Follow these steps to see if you have anything left to do:
-
Visit Google Analytics
-
Go to the 'Admin' area
-
Under the property that will be using Google Universal Analytics, select the 'Universal Analytics upgrade.'
There it will list the next steps you need to take in order to complete the upgrade to UA.

Google Analytics reporting traffic for 404 pages
Hi guys, Unique issue with google analytics reporting for one of our sites. GA is reporting sessions for 404 pages (landing pages, organic traffic) e.g. for this page: http://www.milkandlove.com.au/breastfeeding-dresses/index.php the page is currently a 404 page but GA (see screenshot) is reporting organic traffic (to the landing page). Does anyone know any reasons why this is happening? Cheers. http://www.milkandlove.com.au/breastfeeding-dresses/index.php GK0zDzj.jpg

Google Analytics to sub domains
Hi, I have a site xyz.com and two separate sites on sub domains xyz.com/abc and xyz.com/def. What's the best way to go about with GA such that I can get all the data in the same place. Should I use the GA code for xyz.com on sub domains as well? Or should I create separate profiles?

Is it possible to use Google Tag Manager to pass a user’s text input into a form field to Google analytics?
Hey Everyone, I finally figured out how to use auto event tracking with Google Tag Manager, but didn't get the data I wanted. I want to see what users are typing into the search field on my site (the URL structure of my site isn't set up properly to use GA's built-in site search tracking). So, I set up the form submit event tracking in Google Tag Manager and used the following as my event tracking parameters: Category: Search Action: Search Value When I test and look in Google Analytics I just see: "search" and "search value." I wanted to see the text that I searched on my site. Not just the Action and Category of the event.... Is what I'm trying to do even possible? Do I need to set up a different event tracking parameter? Thanks everyone!

Re-classifying a Traffic Source in Google Analytics
Hey All, I think it's inside of the Admin section of Google Analytics, right now I have a traffic source from the domain of indeed.ca that is being classified as Organic traffic when it should be classified as referring traffic, how can I tell Google Analytics that all traffic from this source should be classified as referral traffic and not organic traffic? Furthermore, after I make this change, will Google Analytics re-classify my past data so I can do a proper analysis? I can't remember how to do this and any help would be appreciated! Thanks!

Google Analytics data - Canonical problems?
Hi everyone, We're trying to determine why Google Analytics is showing multiple versions of the same page as having "landing page traffic". For instance, these 2 pages are both shown as landing pages in GA: www.oursite.com/product_page
Reporting & Analytics | | darkgreenguy
www.oursite.com/product_page/ This occurs many times in Google analytics. Also, there are instances such as these: www.oursite.com/index.php/custom_product_url www.oursite.com/custom_product_url I can't find anything in Google Webmaster tools that would indicate a problem. However, this GA data is making me think there are duplicate content issues on the site... Thanks in advance for any help...0 -
Google Analytics bug?
Hi, I'm getting hits to this page, it's screwing up my Google Analytics stats. I know it's related with Google Website Optimizer, cuz it correlates with the tests I ran at the same dates. I'm just wondering if you've seen this before and what I should do to clean my stats? And is this affecting my SEO? Because it's still registering hits to these pages but I already stopped the tests a while go. Should I disallow this in my robots.txt file? Thanks! ga_bug3.jpg
