Competitor Recently Changed his Title to Match Mine
-
Hey Mozsters,
I'm competing with one website for a niche, he's currently beating me and recently changed his Title to match mine exactly. Are there any negative repercussions from this? Should I change mine so users aren't confused?
Why would someone do this?

Cheers

Yes, your meta description should focus 100% on getting the users to click on your result, because it convinces them it's what they're searching for.
Google doesn't use meta description as a ranking factor, so there's no worry there. Just make sure to stay within the allotted character amount of around 156.
-
Can you elaborate on the meta description? Do you think I should make it more enticing for people searching?
-
Did they change a title of a single web page?
Or
Did they dedicate a whole website to the title of a product?
Some niche markets are very narrow and you WILL have matching phrases and titles and even products, if you run into that you just have to stay ahead of the curve and keep your site above theirs.
Also if you are selling a product, service, then make sure your website is dedicated to getting a better conversion for your clients.
People copy for lots of reasons:
1. They have the same idea and geographical region, or the same name.
2. They want to get an edge on a competitor.
3. They want to get hits on the keywords maybe for a different reason,
(http://moz.com/blog/barnacle-seo-whiteboard-friday)
If you're dedicated to your niche market, then keep the name and keep your site/media/web presence above theirs.

Do you use your brand in your title? Is copying your brand too? If so, he's shooting himself in the foot. If not, there isn't much you can do to address the title specifically, but there are some other things you can do to make your result more desirable to click. .
Don't change your title if you believe it's the best title for your business. If you aren't using your brand in the title, this could help users with confusion. Also, if he's copying your title, make sure to beat him out in the meta description to siphon off more click-throughs. Also look into the kinds of rich snippets you might be able to put in there to make your result stand out while you work on over taking him.
This title won't have negative repercussions for you from an SEO standpoint. I usually just smile when I see something like this happen. Imitation is, after all, the sincerest form of flattery.

If their title matches your title it's for seo purposes, i think. Be sure to have your brand name on your title to have any difference.
Your competitor also can change newly the title to have the brand name, but because they doesn't have this on the page url, probably that's be bad for him.
But i cannot see anymore... I think the title it's important, but, it's more important the content. Check your competitor content for if it's stealing your own. And be sure google has cached your content already, for mark their one as duplicate.

How Often Can I Change My Meta Titles? (Product Discounts)
Hello, I have an ecommerce website. Due to discounts and sales on most of my products, the discount rates change very often. Some products have %10 discounts for 3 days and then same products might have %50 discounts for another 5 days. I would like to show these product specific discounts on Meta Titles and Descriptions dynamically. My system will automatically update the Meta Titles once the discount on a product changes. My question is, how often can I change the Meta Titles? Is changing them (only discount rates = 1word) too often bad for my SEO? What is Goolge's approach on this? Thank you in advance for all your help. Best,

Google Results Title vs My Page Title
I'm having some trouble with my titles of a new site, it has been online for around two months now and i'm getting weird titles from most indexed pages. Since my site is focused on finding courses, the course title format is the following: URL: https://www.maseducacion.com/estudios/programacion-curricular--tecnigrap-2982

My Title: Course - Institute | Mybrand
Google Search Title: Course - Institute | Mybrand - Educativa Half of my results have that word at the end, don't know where it comes from, that word is only included in two links. Any idea on how to fix it?0 -

Changing our homepage - what to bear in mind?
We're going to refresh our homepage by putting more content on it and a slightly different design. Given that it's our highest authority page, I don't want to screw it up. We're going to keep the titles / meta / copy the same during the transition, is there anything else I should bear in mind to avoid it plummeting down the rankings? I ask as we have a 2nd smaller site and when I changed 1 word in the title of the homepage it lost 40 places on half its keywords. Lesson learned... Thanks in advance for any tips Dan

Could a URL change path conflict a 301 redirect?
Hi Mozzers, We create multiple pages for one of my client. Some of them are replacing old pages. I setup 5 of them out of 40. I was able to set them live via the drupal CMS. The new pages were actually published but didn't have any URL but had nodes in directory such as www.example.com/node298. To set them live i changed the url path to one page that already existed( www.example.com/old). In order to setup the replacing page: www.example.com/node298 i added the same name as the old one but in order to avoid URL conflicts with new page(www.example.com/new) I had to change the old page's url path as well such as www.example.com/old2) I know i have to 301 redirect the old to the new obviously but my question is: does a URL path change on the old page www.example.com/old matters in when 301 ing it? will it still transfer all the juice to the new page Visual Process: Main goal: www.example.com/old redirect to www.example.com/new but these two are exactly the same url So modification of URL path: www.example.com/old to www.example.com/old2 to avoid URL conflict Therefore www.example.com/old2 =www.example.com/old (just url change path difference) Question: Because of this url change, will a 301 from www.example.com/old2 to www.example.com/new will still carry all the juice that www.example.com/old carried or not? I hope i didn't make it too confusing. Let me know if it is the case Thanks Mozzers Ty
