Competitor Recently Changed his Title to Match Mine
-
Hey Mozsters,
I'm competing with one website for a niche, he's currently beating me and recently changed his Title to match mine exactly. Are there any negative repercussions from this? Should I change mine so users aren't confused?
Why would someone do this?

Cheers

Yes, your meta description should focus 100% on getting the users to click on your result, because it convinces them it's what they're searching for.
Google doesn't use meta description as a ranking factor, so there's no worry there. Just make sure to stay within the allotted character amount of around 156.
-
Can you elaborate on the meta description? Do you think I should make it more enticing for people searching?
-
Did they change a title of a single web page?
Or
Did they dedicate a whole website to the title of a product?
Some niche markets are very narrow and you WILL have matching phrases and titles and even products, if you run into that you just have to stay ahead of the curve and keep your site above theirs.
Also if you are selling a product, service, then make sure your website is dedicated to getting a better conversion for your clients.
People copy for lots of reasons:
1. They have the same idea and geographical region, or the same name.
2. They want to get an edge on a competitor.
3. They want to get hits on the keywords maybe for a different reason,

If you're dedicated to your niche market, then keep the name and keep your site/media/web presence above theirs.
-
Do you use your brand in your title? Is copying your brand too? If so, he's shooting himself in the foot. If not, there isn't much you can do to address the title specifically, but there are some other things you can do to make your result more desirable to click. .
Don't change your title if you believe it's the best title for your business. If you aren't using your brand in the title, this could help users with confusion. Also, if he's copying your title, make sure to beat him out in the meta description to siphon off more click-throughs. Also look into the kinds of rich snippets you might be able to put in there to make your result stand out while you work on over taking him.
This title won't have negative repercussions for you from an SEO standpoint. I usually just smile when I see something like this happen. Imitation is, after all, the sincerest form of flattery.

If their title matches your title it's for seo purposes, i think. Be sure to have your brand name on your title to have any difference.
Your competitor also can change newly the title to have the brand name, but because they doesn't have this on the page url, probably that's be bad for him.
But i cannot see anymore... I think the title it's important, but, it's more important the content. Check your competitor content for if it's stealing your own. And be sure google has cached your content already, for mark their one as duplicate.

Should change some pages with key stuffing?
Hello, i have a website with 1 years old and when i started, when i created the pages, theses have key stuffing (20-30-40 same words in meta descriptions and text, sometimes 15, sometimes 20 and sometimes 40). Since i saw this (about 4 months), i change that, doing new pages with 5-10 same keywords. Some pages with many keywords (20-30-40) work very fine and i would not lose the position in google, but i don't want to be penalized for that. Then, my question is: Should change the old pages with key stuffing or let them? Thanks so much.

Page titles in browser not matching WP page title
I have an issue with a few page titles not matching the title I have In WordPress. I have 2 pages, blog & creative gallery, that show the homepage title, which is causing duplicate title errors. This has been going on for 5 weeks, so its not an a crawl issue. Any ideas what could cause this? To clarify, I have the page title set in WP, and I checked "Disable PSP title format on this page/post:"...but this page is still showing the homepage title. Is there an additional title setting for a page in WP?

Inconsistent page titles in SERP's
I encountered a strange phenomenon lately and I’d like to hear if you have any idea what’s causing it. For the past couple of weeks I’ve seen some our Google rankings getting unstable. While looking for a cause, I found that for some pages, Google results display another page title than the actual meta title of the page. Examples http://www.atexopleiding.nl Meta title: Atex cursus opleider met ruim 40 jaar ervaring - Atexopleiding.nl Title in SERP: Atexopleiding.nl: Atex cursus opleider met ruim 40 jaar ervaring http://www.reedbusinessopleidingen.nl/opleidingen/veiligheid/veiligheidskunde Meta title: Opleiding Veiligheidskunde, MBO & HBO - Reed Business Opleidingen Title in SERP: Veiligheidskunde - Reed Business Opleidingen http://www.pbna.com/vca-examens/ Meta title: Behaal uw VCA diploma bij de grootste van Nederland - PBNA Title in SERP: VCA Examens – PBNA I’ve looked in the source code, fetched some pages as Googlebot in WMT, but the title shown in the SERP doesn’t even exist in the source code. Now I suspect this might have something to do with the “cookiewall” implemented on our sites. Here’s why: Cookiewall was implemented end of January The problem didn’t exist until recently, though I can’t pinpoint an exact date. Problem exists on both rbo.nl, atexopleiding.nl & pbna.com, the latter running on Silverstripe CMS instead of WP. This rules out CMS specific causes. The image preview in the SERPS of many pages show the cookie alert overlay However, I’m not able to technically prove that the cookiescript causes this and I’d like to rule out other any obvious causes before I "blame it on the cookies" :). What do you think?

Good Seo Titles
Hi. Mybsite is www.theprinterdepo.com and I am trying to find a good template for my product/page titles. Many users search our products by the product model: something like Q2121X. Some other users search by: hp 1320 printer or just 1320 printer. They will almost never search for hp 1320 new, or hp 1320 refurbished. My website is developed in magento, and we have a SEO plugin in which I can put a template for the URL and also a template for the product title. I was thinking for title and URL. title + condition + productmodel However many users search for: "refurbished printers" and maybe its better that our products say something like this: HP 1320 Refurbished Printer, instead of: HP 1320 Printer - Refurbished - Q2121X Please let me know your suggestions.

Problems with changing the page title on Wordpress Site...
The website is http://www.masterpieceinteriors.co.uk/ I'm not sure why the homepage title is reading 'masterpieces' in Google but looks fine here. There seem to be 2 versions of the homepage coming up in google - you can see them both by searching 'masterpieceinteriors' and then 'masterpiece interiors'. Some help would be hugely appreciated!
