Weird rankings on my website, can't figure it out
-
Hey guys,
One of my post popular pages for "Rust Hacks" use to be - http://www.ilikecheats.com/01/rust-cheats-hacks-aimbot/
Now when searching Google for site:ilikecheats.com rust hacks
This page shows as the highest ranking - http://forum.ilikecheats.com/forums/221-Rust-Hacks-Rust-Cheats-Public-Forum
What's weird is it seems the entire front end (Wordpress site) isn't ranking well anymore on page #1 of Google and the forums are ranking better currently. I did have a huge penalty from backlinks last year but cleared it. I got Yoast to do a site review and I'm cleaning up everything now. I also cleared most of the bad links via the disavow tool.
Another example is when I search for "warz hacks" the forums show up in 4th place but the main website isn't showing at all back to page 10. If I search site:ilikecheats.com warz hacks the links directly to the main site doesn't show until page #2. So is this still a penalty that is carried over or is something else going on? Can't seem to figure it out, thanks in advance for looking.
Any ideas what's going on and why the main pages no longer rank - http://www.ilikecheats.com
-
I just wanted to point out a few issues I saw right away;
-
Internal linking might be playing a roll. The site is not linking to these hacks pages right from the homepage, it is down a second level via the "download hacks" link. Yet the forum is being linked to universally across the main navigation.
-
In fact the forum comes on top for most internal links --> http://screencast.com/t/MYjf3dNzZGE
-
Bear in mind Google will treat privacy pages and sitemap internal links differently, because they know these are standard pages linked to universally, so you don't need to go removing links to those - but you should think about overall site architecture in relation to your content pages.
-
The top YouTube video won't play - it says: "This Video has Been Removed as a Violation of YouTube's policy against spam, scams, and commercially deceptive content". That can't be good for the pages quality score.
-
All comments below are unanswered. This is your opportunity to engage with visitors, show some extra and helpful content etc - I would respond to some of the commenting.
-
I see 225,000 pages indexed on the entire root domain. Is there really this many pages with actual content that people are looking at and using on a regular basis? Maybe it's a good idea to do a content audit on the site and remove or consolidate low quality and/or extra pages.
-
I am not familiar with this industry and type of site - but Google seems to be trying to rank forum pages for other domains as well - and only a few "landing pages" - as these landing pages just try to get the visitor to register, only only after they register can they get access to the content. Google is reluctant to rank pages in which the user can not easily complete the desired action on that page. Maybe this industry is out of that norm?
-
Make sure you are not blocking CSS and JS from being crawled in robots.txt - http://www.ilikecheats.com/robots.txt - there's a lot of stuff in your file there, and Google now prefers to crawl these files, so I would check you're not blocking that. Use the new fetch and render tool in webmaster tools.
-
You've got an infinite crawl loop happening --> http://screencast.com/t/hNekO6fx3A - I found this with screaming frog SEO spider. Something you'll definitely want to resolve.
-
Lots of pages link internally via 301 redirects, which can also hurt crawl efficiency
-
Did you intend to make this page a "post" and not a "page"? http://www.ilikecheats.com/01/rust-cheats-hacks-aimbot/ - see my video about the differences - either way you should be updating this page, and fixing issues as they arise to make sure users are happily finding what they need on it.
Is doesn't seem like there is any one silver bullet thing to fix, but it seems like Google might be having trouble figuring out which page to rank for certain queries - so perhaps the architecture, keyword targeting etc is not clear enough.
I also suspect the forum may be more trusted and authoritative due to user metrics. It's likely users are visiting the forum more often, staying longer and engaging due to the nature of the forum. But you can certainly help Google out by clarifying the site structure and page targeting a bit better.

No penalty in Webmaster tools and the manual penalty was removed back in January.

Hi,
I just searched for "warz cheats" and you subdomain come up in position 7 and 8.
forum.ilikecheats.com/.
"Rust hack" your subdomain is position 11 and 12
Maybe your main site is still under a penelty and your subdomain is not?

Google has discovered a URL but won't index it?
Hey all, have a really strange situation I've never encountered before. I launched a new website about 2 months ago. It took an awfully long time to get index, probably 3 weeks. When it did, only the homepage was indexed. I completed the site, all it's pages, made and submitted a sitemap...all about a month ago. The coverage report shows that Google has discovered the URL's but not indexed them. Weirdly, 3 of the pages ARE indexed, but the rest are not. So I have 42 URL's in the coverage report listed as "Excluded" and 39 say "Discovered- currently not indexed." When I inspect any of these URL's, it says "this page is not in the index, but not because of an error." They are listed as crawled - currently not indexed or discovered - currently not indexed. But 3 of them are, and I updated those pages, and now those changes are reflected in Google's index. I have no idea how those 3 made it in while others didn't, or why the crawler came back and indexed the changes but continues to leave the others out. Has anyone seen this before and know what to do?

Should I optimize the login page? Will it affect the website SEO ranking?
I'm trying to resolve the site crawl issues that we have on our website. One of the links that has different issue types together is our login page. Currently we have two login pages that have the same content but different sub domains. **However I'm wondering if optimizing SEO on our login pages affects our website SEO ranking and if it's something better to do or not. ** To point out the details of the issues, the issue types that the logins pages have are "duplicate title", "duplicate content", "missing H1", "missing description", "thin content", "missing canonical tag" I'd appreciate your help, thank you!

How to improve or fix my website ? for an unknown reason bad ranks on Google
Hello, I know that I need to have good quality backlinks, and I am getting backlinks sometime more sometime less. but that is not a problem at this moment i belive. So I am asking someone who can help me and check my website MajorDroid and tells me how can I improve or fix my problem if there is a problem. Because I am very sad when I see this for example: if you search for keyword: oukitel k3 review my website is at page 3, but at same time on page 1 there are only three relevant results, and all other results on page 1 are only partial like OUKITEL K3 Specs Confirmed.... and they are not relevant for users... because they are looking for review. I have the same problem with other keywords also where my page is on second page or third page of Google... and again some other websites with only partial keyword are on first page.... and google claims to offer relevant info for users... now i do not know how google looks my website, or where is the problem ? why quite often my website ranks on second page or third page although competition is not great, and google shows only several relevant results on first page... for example this is review for oukitel k3 I hope you can help me Thank you

Help me to understand why this page doesn't rank
Hello everyone. I am trying to understand why most of my website category pages don't show up in the in the first 50 organic results on Google, despite my high website DA and high PA of those pages. We used to rank high a few years ago, not clear why most of those pages have almost completely disappeared. So, just to take one as an example, please, help me to understand why this page doesn't shows up in the first 50 organic search results for the keyword "cello sheet music": http://www.virtualsheetmusic.com/downloads/Indici/Cello.html I really can't explain why, unless we are under some sort of "penalization" or similar (a curse?!)... I have analyzed any possible metric, and can't find a logical explanation. Looking forward for your thoughts guys! All the best, Fab.

Open Site Explorer - Top Pages that don't exist / result of a hack(?)
Hi all, Last year, a website I monitor, got hacked, or infected with malware, I’m not sure which. The result that I got to see is 100’s of ‘not found’ entries in Google Search Console / Crawl Errors for non-existent pages relating to / variations of ‘Canada Goose’. And also, there's a couple of such links showing up in SERPs. Here’s an example of the page URLs: ourdomain.com/canadagoose.php ourdomain.com/replicacanadagoose.php I looked for advice on the webmaster forums, and was recommended to just keep marking them as ‘fixed’ in the console. Sooner or later they’ll disappear. Still, a year after, they appear. I’ve just signed up for a Moz trail and, in Open Site Explorer->Top Pages, the top 2-5 pages are relating to these non-existent pages: URLs that are the result of this ‘canada goose’ spam attack. The non-existent pages each have around 10 Linking Root Domains, with around 50 Inbound Links. My question is: Is there a more direct action I should take here? For example, informing Google of the offending domains with these backlinks. Any thoughts appreciated! Many thanks

Website penalised can't find where the problem is. Google went INSANE
Hello, I desperately need a hand here! Firstly I just want to say that I we never infracted google guidelines as far as we know. I have been around in this field for about 6 years and have had success with many websites on the way relying only in natural SEO and was never penalised until now. The problem is that our website www.turbosconto.it is and we have no idea why. (not manual) The web has been online for more than 6 months and it NEVER started to rank. it has about 2 organic visits a day at max. In this time we got several links from good websites which are related to our topic which actually keep sending us about 50 visits a day. Nevertheless our organic visita are still 1 or 2 a day. All the pages seem to be heavily penalised ... when you perform a search for any of our "shops"even including our Url, no entries for the domain appear. A search example: http://www.turbosconto.it zalando What I will expect to find as a result: http://www.turbosconto.it/buono-sconto-zalando The same case repeats for all of the pages for the "shops" we promote. Searching any of the brads + our domain shows no result except from "nike" and "euroclinix" (I see no relationship between these 2) Some days before for these same type of searches it was showing pages from the domain which we blocked by robots months ago, and which go to 404 error instead of our optimised landing pages which cannot be found in the first 50 results. These pages are generated by our rating system... We already send requests to de index all theses pages but they keep appearing for every new page that we create. And the real pages nowhere to be found... Here isan example: http://www.turbosconto.it/shops/codice-promozionale-pimkie/rat

You can see how google indexes that for as in this search: site:www.turbosconto.it rate Why on earth will google show a page which is blocked by the robots.txt displaying that the content cannot retrieved because it is blocked by the robots instead of showing pages which are totally SEO Friendly and content rich... All the script from TurboSconto is the same one that we use in our spanish version www.turbocupones.com. With this last one we have awesome results, so it makes things even more weird... Ok apart from those weird issues with the indexation and the robots, why did a research on out backlinks and we where surprised to fin a few bad links that we never asked for. Never the less there are just a few and we have many HIGH QUALITY LINKS, which makes it hard to believe that this could be the reason. Just to be sure we, we used the disavow tool for these links, here are the bad links we submitted 2 days ago: domain: www.drilldown.it #we did not ask for this domain: www.indicizza.net #we did not ask for this domain: urlbook.in #we did not ask for this, moreover is a spammy one http://inpe.br.way2seo.org/domain-list-878 #we did not ask for this, moreover is a spammy one http://shady.nu.gomarathi.com/domain-list-789 #we did not ask for this, moreover is a spammy one http://www.clicdopoclic.it/2013/12/i-migliori-siti-italiani-di-coupon-e.html #we did not ask for this, moreover and is a copy of a post of an other blog http://typo.domain.bi/turbosconto.it I have no clue what can it be, we have no warning messages in the webmaster tools or anything.
For me it looks as if google has a BUG and went crazy on judging our italian website. Or perhaps we are just missing something ??? If anyone could throw some light on this I will be really glad and willing to pay some compensation for the help provided. THANKS A LOT!0 -
How can I rank a national site for local terms
Hi All I have a website that covers all parts of the UK and I wish to be found for terms such as "car for sale London" "car for sale Manchester" and so on. In the past I have created separate landing pages for each town and city but with the quality score of a page becoming more of a ranking factor it is hard to make 300 + town pages interesting and useful. Is it best practice to do what I am doing and improve the quality of each of the pages or would I be better off removing the old pages and using some other technique to rank for the local searches? Thanks for your help
