2 sites using 1 CMS... issues?
-
Hi,
We are working with a client that has 2 sites in the same sector. They are currently on separate servers, with separate blogs, images galleries etc.
Both sites rank combined for over 200 terms.
IF we were to "combine" the sites on one CMS, with one IP, two separate front ends, one blog stream, one image gallery what do you think the SEO impact would be from this?
We had an issue with another client whose sites were too close and we had to separate in order to get them both to rank.
Further to this we want both sites to now have their own https certificate however this wouldn't be possible if combined.
Interested to hear thoughts on this. Thanks

I know lots of people who have two domains in same sector on the same server. If there content is unique and very different and they are not heavily interlinked then I would be comfortable with that.
-
Correct, I have thought the same as you. However it has been a case of business logistics that this request was put in.
Say we say, ok we will put both sites on separate CMS, blog etc ... what about having these two sites, separate URLs on the same server? They are both in the same sector?
-
When I read your question I was on the assumption that they were on separate servers and that you were going to merge them into a SINGLE DOMAIN.
Now I am thinking that you are going to run both of them from a single CMS install. That just sounds strange to me. I wouldn't do it.
-
One more point on this, would it be better for the sites to be on separate servers? Or would it impact if they were on the same server?
-
Thanks for that. Just to expand on this slightly. The idea is that both the front end sites remain. But their assets are still managed from one CMS. So the only merging would be on the server and assets, both ideally want to keep their own brand and rank for their own terms.
One site ranks very well, the other is still strong - but not as strong.
There is a lot of content overlap .. the difference is one is slightly more high end but target a lot of the same keywords.
Further to this I'm conscious about streamlining the blog, as then there is only one blog content stream for essentially 2 sites.

Great answer.
Couldn't have put it any better myself!

Merging two sites in the same sector or launching a second site in the same sector should always be given careful consideration.
My thoughts on this are.....
-
If you own the dominant site in a sector then you are in excellent position to launch a second site in that sector.
-
If you don't own the dominant site in a sector then you are better off putting all of your work into your best site (or your only site) to build it into the dominant site.
To me, those two situations are very clear.
About merging sites....
To me, if Site A and Site B have very little content overlap then a merger makes good sense. The strength of the sites will be merged and the rankings might go up for lots of keywords.
However, if Site A and Site B have a LOT of content overlap then merging them requires more careful thought. If one site is strong and the other puny, then the merger of the puny site into the strong site will not accomplish much. I would rather put work into the strong site. If both sites are moderate in strength then the merger will likely give a nice boost to the site that remains.
Before doing any merger I would be sure that both sites are clean of any Panda, Penguin or other problems. Because you don't want to merge poison into a good site.

What Tools Do I USe To Find Why My Site No Longer Ranks
Hi, I made the mistake of hiring a freelancer to work on my website [in2town.co.uk](link url) but after having a good website things went from bad to worse. The freelancer was kicked off the platform due to lots of compliants from people and creating backdoors to websites and posting on them. It cost me money to have the back door to our site closed. I then found lots of websites were stealing my content through the rss feed. Two of those sites have now been shut down by their hosting company. With all these problems I found in Feb that the hundreds of keywords that I ranked for had vanished. And all the ones that were in the top ten for many years have also vanished. When I create an article which includes https://www.in2town.co.uk/skegness-news/lincolnshire-premier-inn-staff-fear-for-their-jobs/ they cannot be found in Google. Normally before all these problems, my articles were found straight away. If I put in the title name Lincolnshire Premier Inn Staff Fear For Their Jobs and then add In2town in front of it, then instead of the page coming up with the article, it instead shows the home page. Can anyone please advise what tools i should be using to find out the problems and solve them, and can anyone offer advice please on what to do to solve this.

Partner Sites
Hi All, Within our company we have a media group that publishes magazines and videos, the sites have footers that link to our shopping site, one of them has 118,459 links to one URL, domain authority 23, and the other 17,726 to seven URLs, domain authority 52, (there are some articles which link organically). My question is are these links because they're from identifiable companies with the same ownership worth keeping or are they detrimental? The site being linked to has a DA of 39 Cheers Stew

Second question : if yes then do you know what could be wrong with pagination on these pages ? Thanks

Can You Use More Then One Google Local Rich Snippet on a single site/ on a single page.
I am currently working on a website for a business that has multiple office locations. As I am trying to target all four locations I was wondering if it is okay to have more then one Local Rich Snippet on a single page. (For example they list all four locations and addresses within their footer and I was wondering if I could make these local rich snippets). What about having more then one on a single website. For example if a company has multiple offices located in several different cities and have set up individual contact pages for these cities, can each page have it's own Local Rich Snippet? Will Google look at these multiple "local rich snippets" as spaming or will they recognize the multiple locations and count it towards their local seo?

Shutting down a site, where do I 301 it?
I'm working with a few international sites that we are going to collapse into one main site. Our current plan is to 301 the 4 other sites into our main site home page. Is this ok? Is there a better way to do this? Thanks

In my FTP there in the first /portableconentrators/ folder there is about 12 html documents and no other folders. It looks like it is creating a page for every possible folder combination. I have no idea why you those pages above actually work, help please???0 -
How to turn WP site into Ecom site?
I have a couple of old wordpress sites that are old affiliate blogs. I currently sell products that are on amazon on these sites and sell quite a bit of volume. I have found a source and can afford the inventory to replace Amazon with my own product. So the dilema is how to turn these wordpress sites into ecommerce sites. The thing I am worried most about is that each site gets about 100-200 visitors a day for great buying keywords. I obviously don't want to lose my rankings. What are the options of turning a wordpress site into a store. I am not interested in plugins or some of the other solutions that make the store look very cheap and I would assume horribly convert. If you have inner pages ranking for keywords how does that work? Do the post pages become product pages? So to sum up I guess I am asking, what are the options that are of the higher quality that will also help me keep my rankings? Thanks
