How to 301 redirect from old domain and their pages to new domain and pages?
-
Hi i am a real newbie to this and i hope for a guide on how to do this. I seen a few moz post and is quiet confusing hopefully somebody able to explain it in layman terms to me.
I would like to 301 redirect this way, both website contain the same niche.
oldwebsite.com > newwebsite.com
and also its pages.....
oldwebsite.com/test >newwebsite.com/test
So my question here is i would like to host my old domain and its pages in my new website hosting in order to redirect to my new domain and its pages
how do i do that? would my previous page link overwrite my new page link? or it add on the juice link?
Do i need to host the whole old domain website into my new hosting in order to redirect the old pages?
really confusing here, thanks!
-
i tried pasting that code there and change the old domain and new domain but it doesnt work
-
Yes. you should move your contents to your new host and redirect your old domain to new one.
-
by parking the domain in the new hosting, all my previous pages will be gone right? unless i move everything from the old server to the new one? so i can redirect those pages to my new one too
-
Yes. Simply park your domain on your new hosting and redirect it using this code.
-
do we need to keep this redirect permanently? for example to keep the hosting on in order for it to redirect it to my new site.
-
yes; all of your old links move to new domain without hurting your SEO. Its a permanent redirection called 301.
-
by using this code
Options +FollowSymlinks
RewriteEngine On
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^olddomain.com [NC]
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ http://newdomain.com/$1 [L,R=301]how would it affect my seo? would it merge from the old link to the new link?
-
Hi
its better to ask instead of not asking
First, you should host your old domain on your new site and use this htaccess code to redirect 301 all your urls to new domain(don't forget to change newdomain.com and yourdomain.com with your new and old site):
Options +FollowSymlinks
RewriteEngine On
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^olddomain.com [NC]
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ http://newdomain.com/$1 [L,R=301]RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^www.olddomain.com [NC]
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ http://newdomain.com/$1 [L,R=301]then you should submit a request in webmaster tools > change of address part to move your site authority completely.

More than 450 Pages Created by a hacker
Hi Moz Community, I am in charge of the Spanish SEO for an international company, related to security. A couple of months ago, I realized that my Spanish/keywords/post all vanished from Google, Yahoo, Bing and Duckduckgo. Then I noticed that somebody in command of the main website used a disavow all! I was in shock, as all of you can imagine. Knowing that all the inbound links were spam score under 4, highly relevant and so. Later on, I was informed that the website was hacked and somebody took that action. Of course, it did not solved the issue. I continue researching and found those pages - "Online%20Games%20-%20Should%20Parents%20Worry%20Or%20Celebrate%3F" - all of them like this one. I informed the owner of the website - he is not my client - my client is the Spanish Manager. They erased the pages, of course plus sent all those, to avoid the 404 responses, to the homepage with a 301. My heart stopped at that point! I asked them to send all those with a redirect 301 to a new hidden page with nofollow and noindex directives. We recover, my keywords/pages are in the first page again. Although the DA fell 7 points and no inbound links for now. I asked for the disavow file "to rewrite it", not received yet. Any better ideas? Encountered a similar issue? How did you solved it?

Question about "sneaky" vs. non-sneaky redirects?
One of my client's biggest keyword competitors is using, what I believe to be, sneaky redirects. The company is a large, international corporation that has a local office. They use a totally unrelated domain name for local press and advertising, but there is no website. The anchor text in the backlinks automatically redirects to the corporate website. Is this sneaky or not?

New Service/Product SEO and rankings
Hello, fellow MOZers. We are a web design company, and we had SEO as secondary service for years. Due to changes in the company we started pushing SEO as one of our main services about 6 monhs ago. We have separate page , targeting that service, as well as case studies, supportive information pages, even SEO Center, which is like a blog about SEO only. We are not using black hat SEO, doing honest link earning and building, don't use keyword stuffing, everything is by the book. I understand that SEO takes time, especially for a company which has a footprint as web design company, not as SEO company. We are ranking very good for web design related keyphrases, however, we don't see any improvements for SEO related keywords. It always was and is between 25-30 SERP. At the same time, competitors, who are ranking on first page for SEO related phrases are pretty bad looking. Design-wise as well as blackhat-SEO-wise. Everything is keyword stuffed, UX is horrible, prices are ridiculous. So, do you guys have any thought/advise on how we can see results / why we are not seeing results. Are links on a press page considered "reciprocal linking"?
Hi, We have a press page with a list of links to the articles that have mentioned us (most of which also have a link to our website). Is there any SEO impact with this approach? Does Google consider these reciprocal links? And if so, would making the links on the press page 'nofollow' solve the issue?

Keyword Rich Domains on Same IP
In addition to my main website, I want to create two new sites for the upcoming football and basketball seasons. By starting now, I'm thinking I have enough time to get them ranked decently. I have purchased www.collegefootballpredictions.net for the upcoming football seasons. The intent here is two fold. First, I'd like to rank in the top 3 for "College Football Predictions." Second, and this is why I'm thinking that Google won't hate me for the approach, is that someone looking for that search term is much more likely to convert on a landing page geared for them then on my main website. If the goal of a separate website is truly to compliment the main website, then is it considered white hat? I'm thinking that, as long as my intentions are pure, they should go on the same IP. Placing them on separate IPs could be a good way of letting the big G know that I'm trying to cheat the system and get away with it.

Server Side Java Script Redirects
I would like to use a redirect through a server based Java script to redirect visitors only referenced from a certain site. So let's say anyone clicking on a link to my site page-A from seomoz.org would automatically be redirected to page-B. All other users as well as direct and search engine traffic would only see the regular page A. The reason I am doing this is because the linking site is linking to page A which doesn't serve the user the correct content. Rather than contacting the webmaster to change the link to point to page -B, I want to redirect them. Is there any danger of Google penalizing this for cloaking? and how would they be able to tell?
