Exactly what Chris said check out this article - http://moz.com/blog/beginners-guide-to-link-building Content is key with SEO so make sure the content is relevant on the blog which you are placing the link on.
Do not use any pay $50 dollars for x amount of links etc as these may give you a slight boost short term but will affect you in the long term.
They add links to comments of blogs with all different topics and content so they are not trusted and have low page ranks.

Hi there, We operate about a dozen websites that are part of the same parent company. All these websites are in the same vertical, and link among each other in the footer section. The anchor for each link is the brand name, so we are merely doing it to show what other products the parent company has to offer. My question is: do you think this is still advisable, or it might trigger a penalty? Also, what would you choose between: Sitewide footer links from each site to the other sites. A single footer link on the homepage from each site to the other sites. A presentation page on each website, one click away from the homepage, which presents the company's other websites. Thanks.

Link Targets
What do you think of getting links from... high quality sites, with many non spammy high trusted links to them....but their traffic has been majorly hit by panda. I suspect perhaps for having too many thin pages. Is persuing links on these sites a good idea or not? I'd welcome opinions.

How do I get the most links out of one QUALITY article/post??
Basically we are a small business (2 employees) we don't have the time or resources to be writing hundreds of original quality articles each week (nor do we have the time to write endless guest blogs each week) how do we gain links from one article? Sitewide link dilema
About 3 years ago I acquired a sitewide sidebar backlink on very good site. Today 3 years later my site has 27,080 backlinks from the same domain with the same anchor text and I am concerned this could be doing my site more harm than good. The site is good quality well indexed PR5, some inner pages also have good PR. My dilemmas are: Should I have the link removed or leave it put? Would taking down so many links in one go do me harm? My instinct would be to remove the sitewide and just keep the homepage link but that is not an option Can anyone help? Thanks

I want to know about process, method or tool which can help me to define quality of external website during link building. We are searching too many questions and topics on Google to resolve daily mind bubbles which land us on different website with different subject. I found that, I was able to drop my website URL over there but confuse about quality of website. I am selling Football and create external link from baby care website. So, will it make sense? My concern is that, Can we create external links from different subject website or specific to subject oriented website? High quality links but where do you find them?
Hi, A lot of the answers on here point to building high quality links, which makes sense but where do you find these links? Lets say the website sells Football Boots, the current keyword you are trying to rank for is say 'Indoor Football Boots'. How do you now go about looking for those links? Cheers

Link building
I have two separate websites on different servers and was wondering that since reciprocal links effectively eliminate each other, I'm curious if this link strategy will keep the links counting. Here's the strategy: I will have someone link to my site A and if i link to their site from my site B in a three way link strategy, will the links count even though both my site A and B have me listed as the Whois so Google knows that both sites are owned by me? Or will the links be discounted as reciprocal? Thanks in advance for your feedback! Take care, Ron
