Local search listings for Global Company
-
hi,
I work for a company that has offices in several countries world wide. At the moment we only have one website. As we are an online business ranking in local search is not a huge issue. However, I'd like to know more about the probability of each office being listed globally in local without having a site representing each office.

Hi Bo,
Thanks for the additional information about your business model. So, if in-person transactions happen at each office, and each office has its own address and own phone number, sounds to me like you're good to go for pursuing local inclusion. Just be sure to follow all of the rules carefully:

And, yes, you can create a unique page on the site for each locale. Sounds like a plan!
Best of luck!

Hi Miriam, thanks for your response! To clarify, we're an online business in the sense that we sell software solutions, and that customers can communicate with us exclusively online, if so desired. However, every country office has in-person transactions at their location, and I'd like these offices to be listed in local. What I'm thinking is that each office could have its sub page on our web site (with all the local address details), and that these pages should be able to rank in local search....

Hi Bo,
Regardless of location or number of websites, inclusion in Google's local search results requires that the business:
1. Has a unique physical street address (not a P.O. Box, virtual office or shared address)
2. Has a unique local phone number (not an 800 number, not a call tracking number, not a shared number)
3. Has in-person transactions with its customers, either at the company location (like a restaurant) or at the clients' locations (like a plumber).
Read those 3 points carefully. If by stating that you are an 'online business', you mean that the business is virtual and doesn't serve clients face-to-face, then the business model doesn't qualify for local inclusion.
Hope this clarifies the issue. You are welcome to ask further questions if this isn't quite clear enough.

Incorrect homepage country variant appearing in search resutls
Hi, Background I have an international site with 32 country homepages within the same domain: eg www.domain.com/en-gb/

www.domain.com/fr-fr/
www.domain.com/de-de/
www.domain.com/es-es/ and so forth We use IP redirection on the root www.domain.com (which has no HTML page of its own) to divert the user to their relevant country homepage. Within each country homepage we include: (a canonical link to itself) ... (hreflang alternates to all instances of other homepages including itself ) Our Google Crawl bot is located in Germany and so when it crawls our root www.domain.com it takes the title and description from its destination url which in crawlbots case is www.domain.com/de-de/ because of the IP redirect. What is the problem I am trying to solve? Every variation of local Google results (eg UK/FR/IT/US) displays at the top the crawled root www.domain.com page with German title/description. How can I stop this happening? Surely adding appropriate hrefs and canonicals to every homepage instance is sufficient for Google to display to you your relevant country homepage variant instead!? Lost local organic rankings and international issues
Hi Everyone, Hoping we can get some help from our fellow Mozzers (Mozee's? Mozites?) We have 3 TLD's .com.au .co.uk & .com We noticed an issue a couple of weeks ago where we suddenly lost a lot of our search rankings for keywords on the .com.au site that we'd been top with for a long time. A lot of our Australian visitors were coming through our US site. US & UK sites got increased ranking results. We fixed up what we thought were the issues (Potentially HREF Lang issues and old sitemap issues). Google Search Console is still telling us we have some HREF Lang Errors, (but this could be waiting an updated crawl as the number is decreasing) Our main domain example.com is now showing up as first result in google.com.au search and the example.com.au doesn't show up until page 4 (prior to 2 weeks ago it was number 1) Any input would be appreciated...

Mini Google Search box within organic sitelinks
I'm trying to find solid information on Google's criteria on showing a "mini Google search box" within sitelinks? Example: if you type-in "wikipedia" on Google.com, a mini search box appears within the site links. This is for organic listing not paid listing. The Google Support page on Sitelinks does not state any info on the mini google search box. http://support.google.com/webmasters/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=47334
