404 errors
-
Hi, we have plenty of 404 errors. We just deal with those that are of the highest priority (the ones that have high page authority). We have also a lot of errors like this: http://www.weddingrings.com/www.yoy-search.com . Does it make sense to redirect those to the home page or leave them as an 404 error?
-
- Fix broken internal and external links, like the Yoy-search url. That should solve one area of your 404 problems
- Identify why you have 404's in the first place. Find the root of the problem. Are these dead product pages? Definitely 301 them to the correct URL. If the product isn't there, consider redirecting to the homepage (or asking the linking site to change the URL to a relevant page) or showing a custom 404 page to show their other relevant offers.
-
I second that...as I created a lot of 404's by not knowing to add http...2012...mistakes were made that year.

I'd say it depends on how much work would be involved. If "a lot of erros" means a 100, I would redirect them to your homepage, especially since it looks like that's where they wanted to go anyway. If it's 1,000's, I'd build out a nice 404 landing page. Since you're selling wedding rings, I bet you could come up with a pretty awesome one; there's a lot of material there.
Happy Friday!

This is probably due to to a relative URL being used in the site code. When relative URLs are used improperly, you usually see the url added to the end of the correct http url. Make sure to use http in your anchor tag.
i.e. and not

This url is not allowed for a Sitemap at this location error using pro-sitemaps.com
Hey, guys, We are using the pro-sitemaps.com tool to automate our sitemaps on our properties, but some of them give this error "This url is not allowed for a Sitemap at this location" for all the urls. Strange thing is that not all of them are with the error and most have all the urls indexed already. Do you have any experience with the tool and what is your opinion? Thanks

I have a lot of spammy links coming to my 404 page (the URLs have been removed now). Should i re-direct to Home?
I have a lot of spammy links pointing at my website according to MOZ. Thankfully all of them were for some URLs that we've long since removed so they're hitting my 404. Should i change the 404 with a 301 and Re-Direct that Juice to my home page or some other page or will that hurt my ranking?

Search instead of 404 - Vtex Brazil
Vtex in one of the best e-commerce in Brazil and I´ve just find out they transform any 404 page in a search page. Polishop ( http://www.polishop.com.br/ ) is one of their clientes and if you try to search any page it will never return a 404 error because convert any url in a search. Example: http://www.polishop.com.br/12345678 - 200: HTTP/1.1 200 OK ( it does not return a 404 code) I´m a little bit confused if this good or not... what do you think moz experts?

How should I go about repairing 400,000 404 error pages?
My thinking is to make a list of most linked to and most trafficked error pages, and just redirect those, but I don't know how to get all that data because i can't even download all the error pages from Webmaster Tools, and even then, how would i get backlink data except by checking each link manually? Are there any detailed step-by-step instructions on this that I missed in my Googling? Thanks for reading!!

Do you add 404 page into robot file or just add no index tag?
Hi, got different opinion on this so i wanted to double check with your comment is. We've got /404.html page and I was wondering if you would add this page to robot text so it wouldn't be indexed or would you just add no index tag? What would be the best approach? Thanks!

301 vs. 404
If a listing on a website is no longer available to display is it better to resolve to a 301 redirect or use a 404? I know from an SEO point of view a 301 will pass on the link value, but is that as valuable as saying tto the user hey that page is no lonoger available try something else?
