Mobile site SEO: faulty redirects.. 204! help pls!
-
Hello,
I have recently read that a m.site.com should provide the same number of pages as the non-mobile site. Is this so? Is this why my mobile site won't rank? Our competitors have their standard websites showing up before our m.website.com version... Also, do I have to get a whole new set of mobile links for my mobile site? In WT, I am seeing absolutely no inbound links, which seems odd? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance

Hi Denise,
A couple of points here. First, it's not that you necessarily need the same number of pages on your mobile site as your non-mobile site, it's that any content that you have on your non-mobile site should be represented somewhere on your mobile site. It's possible that your competitors are ranking with their desktop sites because they're targeting content that you are missing with your mobile site, and maybe on your desktop site as well.
Second, yes and no. Your mobile site is a separate site, but if you connect your mobile pages to their corresponding desktop pages with rel=alternate and canonical tags, Google should transfer some of that link equity for you. Google breaks it down here: https://developers.google.com/webmasters/smartphone-sites/details
Good luck!
Kristina

SEO value of an on-site hosted blog
We are in the process of upgrading our blogging capability. Our preference would be to host a Wordpress blog under our site url. However due to our technical set up we've found out that it isn't possible to put Wordpress onto our servers so we'll need to go with a hosted version. Does anyone have any idea or examples of how this could affect our SEO performance? Also - is Wordpress the best tool - seems to be the most popular! Thanks. Jon

Help needed please with 301 redirects in htaccess file.
In summary, we're currently having issues with our htaccess file. 301 redirects are going through to the new described URL but in addition the new URL is followed by a ? and the old URL. How can we get rid of the ? and previous URL so they don't appear as an ending. None of the examples we've found re this issue online appear to work. Can anyone please offer some advice? Can we use a RewriteRule to stop this happening? Here's a summary of the htaccess file REDIRECT CODE BEGINS HERE LONG LIST OF REDIRECTS, which appear to be set up perfectly fine. Will frequently adding and frequently removing pages from my site hinder any SEO?
Hi Guys, Just looking through our crawl diagnositcs and we have a ton errors, well over 5000 actually, on 404 pages that cannot be accessed. Our website runs a lot of "Hot Offers" that are time bound, so they expire at the end of each month and we remove the page via our CMS. It's making the crawl diagnositcs loook bad, but will this be hindering our seo and Google 'stuff' because they are finding thousands of 404 errors? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
