How do I get my pages to go from "Submitted" to "Indexed" in Google Webmaster Tools?
-
Background: I recently launched a new site and it's performing much better than the old site in terms of bounce rate, page view, pages per session, session duration, and conversions.
As suspected, sessions, users, and % new sessions are all down. Which I'm okay with because the the old site had a lot of low quality traffic going to it. The traffic we have now is much more engaged and targeted.
Lastly, the site was built using Squarespace and was launched the middle of August.
**Question: **When reviewing Google Webmaster Tools' Sitemaps section, I noticed it says 57 web pages Submitted, but only 5 Indexed! The sitemap that's submitted seems to be all there. I'm not sure if this is a Squarespace thing or what. Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks!!

Great answer! I noticed SS assign images to their own pages.
Is there a "best practice" for addressing this? Should I try to exclude the pages from being indexed?
-
You mentioned SS is your platform. Then it's probably an image/CDN problem.
The image will be given a page, since it will return a 302, it wont get indexed even if it's on the sitemap.
If you have a lot of images on your site, then a good chunk of page wont show as indexed in webmaster tools
Something like that

Hmmm. Looks like since before 9/10. Check out the attachment...
-
How long has the site been in the "submitted" status?
-
Thanks for the reply, Trung! Here's what I found...
- No errors or warnings in WMT.
- To be honest, I'm not sure how to do this one
- The 'Index Status' report in WMT says there's a total of 86 indexed pages as of 10/5/14!! Which is great, but even more confusing when I consider my original question.
- The "site:" search confirms what's stated above - "About 87 results", it says.
So, it looks like we're in the clear. I'm just not sure what the Crawl>Sitemaps>Web pages, 57 Submitted vs 5 Indexed means. Strange, huh? (I attached a pic so you can see what I'm referencing.)
Thanks again!

Hi Nate,
Glad to hear that the new site is a success! A few things I would check:
- An obvious one: check to see if there are any errors/warnings reported in webmaster tools for your sitemap.
- Review the URLs included in your XML sitemap to ensure that only URLs responding 200 are included (exception is if you're migrating URLs and want to included URLs responding 301 so that they're picked up by search engines faster, theoretically anyway. But you'd want to update the sitemap once the 301s are removed from the index.)
- Check the 'Index Status' report in Webmaster Tools to make sure there isn't a unanticipated decline in indexed pages.
- Do a 'site:yoursite.com' query to get a broad sense of what pages are actually included in the search results. I've found the Webmaster Tools Submitted/Indexed number to vary in terms of accuracy--not super reliable in my experience. The goal with this check up is to ensure that your site's main pages are indexed. You can include subfolders if you want to get more granular, e.g. 'site:yoursite.com/subfolder'.
- Monitor the page's sending visits from organic search in Google Analytics. This will also give you a better sense of what's indexed.
Hope this helps you get started!

What's going on with google index - javascript and google bot
Hi all, Weird issue with one of my websites. The website URL: http://www.athletictrainers.myindustrytracker.com/ Let's take 2 diffrenet article pages from this website: 1st: http://www.athletictrainers.myindustrytracker.com/en/article/71232/ As you can see the page is indexed correctly on google: http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:dfbzhHkl5K4J:www.athletictrainers.myindustrytracker.com/en/article/71232/10-minute-core-and-cardio&hl=en&strip=1 (that the "text only" version, indexed on May 19th) 2nd: http://www.athletictrainers.myindustrytracker.com/en/article/69811 As you can see the page isn't indexed correctly on google: http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:KeU6-oViFkgJ:www.athletictrainers.myindustrytracker.com/en/article/69811&hl=en&strip=1 (that the "text only" version, indexed on May 21th) They both have the same code, and about the dates, there are pages that indexed before the 19th and they also problematic. Google can't read the content, he can read it when he wants to. Can you think what is the problem with that? I know that google can read JS and crawl our pages correctly, but it happens only with few pages and not all of them (as you can see above).

Do I need to verify my site on webmaster both with and without the "www." at the start?
As per title, is it necessary to verify a site on webmaster twice, with and without the "www"? I only ask as I'm about to submit a disavow request, and have just read this: NB: Make sure you verify both the http:website.com and http://www.website.com versions of your site and submit the links disavow file for each. Google has said that they view these as completely different sites so it’s important not to forget this step. (here) Is there anything in this? It strikes me as more than a bit odd that you need to submit a site twice.

Campaign Issue: Rel Canonical - Does this mean it should be "on" or "off?"
Hello, somewhat new to the finer details of SEO - I know what canonical tags are, but I am confused by how SEOmoz identifies the issue in campaigns. I run a site on a wordpress foundation, and I have turned on the option for "canonical URLs" in the All in one SEO plugin. I did this because in all cases, our content is original and not duplicated from elsewhere. SEOmoz has identified every one of my pages with this issue, but the explanation of the status simply states that canonical tags "indicate to search engines which URL should be seen as the original." So, it seems to me that if I turn this OFF on my site, I turn off the notice from SEOmoz, but do not have canonical tags on my site. Which way should I be doing this? THANK YOU.

Backlinks go to "example.com" our homepage is "example.com/default.html" am I losing internal link power?
Hey everyone! Thanks again for everybodies contributions to my questions over the last few months. As the title states, our homepage is at "example.com/default.html" but everybody that backlinks to us (as expected) to "example.com" does that mean that I am probably losing a lot of the power of my links??

Webmaster Tools 404 Errors Pages Never Created
Recently, 196 404 errors appeared in my WMT account for pages that were never created on my site. Question: Any thoughts on how they got there (i.e. WMT bug, tactic by competitor)? Question: Thoughts on impact if any? Question: Thoughts on resolution?

Are Google now indexing iFrames?
A client is pulling content through an iFrame, and when searching for a snippet of that exact content the page that is pulling the data is being indexed and not the iFrame page. Seen this before?
