301 Redirection
-
Hi there guys,
I have a question about redirection.
My boss has just bought a new domain name and he wants it to redirect to our current site when looking for specific products.
www.example.com is our current website
www.productname.com is the new domain
So the new domain would be redirected to example.com.
Would that be considered against Google Policies?
Thanks

It's a one off campaign so I won't be spending time ranking for that domain. Or at least not for now.

Thank you for your help!

It sounds like your boss heard something around using EMD's or exact match domain and that it might help with ranking for those keywords. This was a practice that was used for some time, but in 2012 Google rolled out an EMD update that looks for sites that use EMD's and have poor quality content. http://searchengineland.com/library/google/emd-update
If the content on your main domain is solid, and it matches the new domain, it should be okay to do a 301 to the main (old). However, if the new domain name doesn't match the content of the page you will run the risk of not ranking for that domain.

yes then, what i wrote i my first message use a forwarding or redirect (what suits you best) will do the trick
i personaly would go for a forwarding in the nameserver at your hostingprovider. Very clean no need to setup a .htacces. on the server of newdomain.
Goodluck!

There will be no pages related to that domain so I don't think it's important, the only purpose of that domain is to direct people to our current site..just through a different domain.
Correct me if i am wrong

Hi, it's allowed to make redirects or domain forwarding. You can forward the new domain to a specific page of your old domain. You will not change the old url.
With redirecting or forwarding the new to the old, the old url will be visible.
do you also want google index your new domain?

My current domain will not be changed..but the new domain will redirect people to my current one.
My current boss wants to promote a specific products and has bought this domain with the product name in it. All he wants to do now is to create a redirect in order to send people to this specific page which is located in our current site.
I am not sure that make sense plus I think it can be seen by Google as a sneaky redirect.
Hope I explained myself

Hi, You can forward your new domain to your old domain. This can be done at your webhost. Depending on your webhost you can do it yousrself or just ask them to do it.
When people surf to your www.newdomain.com they will go to www.olddomain.com.
Or you can use a 301 redirect if you like:
To use a 301 redirect put the following code in your .htacces on the server of the new domain:
Redirect 301 /http://www.olddomain.comGrtz, Leonie

301 Redirects - 4 sites into 1
Hey all, I have an SEO conundrum that seems to have no right or wrong answer. If you have 2 minutes I’d love to hear your opinion. The Situation

Our client has 4 ecommerce sites (Sites A, B, C & D) all selling the same products.
He wishes to to merge all 4 sites into a single site (Site A) Options
In order to maintain maximum SEO authority do we: A - Choose a single site (B, C, or D) with the most SEO authority/juice/power and 301 re-direct it into Site A
Or
B – 301 re-direct all 3 sites (B, C & D) into Site A Our experience says that 301’ing from a single site works well, but from multiple sites feels spammy and risky. Really keen too hear your thoughts.1 -
When moving a site from HTTP to HTTPS, will i lose value from the 301 redirect?
I am looking at moving my site from HTTP to full HTTPS, so i will 301 redirect any HTTP requests to their HTTPS counterpart. All my pages in the Google index are HTTP, so will that 301 redirect reduce the value of the pages? Cheers

Redirect Plugin: Redirecting or Rewriting?
Hey everybody! It's been a while since off the boards! I am reworking a site and I have been looking into their Redirection Plugin. I personally tend to lean towards just using the .htaccess because, well, why not. However, when looking deeper into the plugin I found myself a little confused with their redirection wording. RewriteRule ^/products/landing-page-october-2015/$ /products/special-education-news-october-2015/ [R=301,L] Is that the same thing as a classic Redirect 301?

Shall I use a 301 or 302 redirect when people leave the company?
Hello, At my company, we have instances where client-facing people leave the company and so we need to remove their profile page from the website. As opposed to people receiving a 404 when they search for them, I thought it would be best to divert visitors to a generic landing page to explain that the person they are looking for has left the company with details on how to get in touch. I'm tempted to use a 302 redirect so the person they are searching for stays in the search results longer. But longer-term, will this cause any harm? Should it be eventually be turned into a 301 redirect? Or should I just use a 301 in the first instance. Thanks in advance, Stu

How to 301 redirect old wordpress category?
Hi All, In order to avoid duplication errors we've decided to redirect old categories (merge some categories).
Intermediate & Advanced SEO | | BeytzNet
In the past we have been very generous with the number of categories we assigned each post. One category needs to be redirected back to blog home (removed completely) while a couple others should be merged. Afterwords we will re-categorize some of the old posts. What is the proper way to do so?
We are not technical, Is there a plugin that can assist? Thanks0 -
301 redirects
Hello, I want to ditch about 1000 pages of a 2000+ page site. I believe the 301 redirect thing is the way to go but my expertise is limited. Is there a way to do a blanket redirect ie if a user or search engine looks for a page thats not there it all gets redirected to the index page or do I have to do each one manually? Thanks Ian

Embed Same Video On Multiple Pages or 301 Redirect Into 1?
I have 3 pages that rank VERY well for related terms such as: -How to get widgets -How to become a widget -Getting widgets -etc. I am incorporating a video on the topic and rewriting much of the content on the site. I am wondering if it is wise to 301 redirect all 3 pages to 1 page that has the new/better video content or if I should leave the old content that is ranking well and embed the video on the top of each. The anal retentive side of me wants a nice new site structure and 1 powerful page. However, if the 3 pages are currently ranking (sometimes 2 pages in the same top 10 results), should I mess with what is working? Ultimately my goal is to increase the avg time on site as these 3 pages are top traffic pages for the site. However, they do not convert at all, as they are for a product we don't offer. Thoughts?

Now, I'm able to see Google bot activity on my website with help of Google webmaster tools. You can find out attachment to know more about it.
