Safest Way to remove a blog?
-
I have a Magento site that is around 4 years old. It has 2 different wordpress blogs on the same domain. domain/blog
domain/nicheblog
I would like to completely remove the 2 blogs as the information on them is of low quality and its outdated information.
What is the safest way for me to remove this content with out having negative effects on my rankings?
thanks

Here is what I would do.
I would look at my analytics to see if any of the posts in these blogs is getting any traffic from search engines or from links on other websites. If you have some pages that are getting that type of traffic, then I would spend some time to make those pages a lot better.
I would delete the posts that are getting no traffic to very little traffic and 301 redirect those URLs to the homepage of the remaining blog.
If one of these blogs has just a couple pages that seem to be valuable then I would improve the content, place it on the one remaining blog and 301 redirect the original post URL to the new post URL. Then 301 redirect the rest of the posts on that blog to the homepage of the remaining blog.
If I simply wanted to throw the entire blog away I would 301 redirect everything to the homepage of my website.

I allow authority sites to republish my blog articles, which then outrank me
Hey everyone. This is my first question here, I apologize if it has been covered before. I have a health and nutrition blog [authority nutrition] that has been up since December 1st, 2012. I've managed to write quite a few viral articles which have given me a bunch of natural links and a domain authority of 49, which I think is pretty great for such a new site. Haven't done any link building and everything is 100% white hat. Getting good rankings and good traffic already, so I can't complain. My only (1st world) problem is that sometimes major authority sites (DA of 70-95) republish my content. I always say yes if they ask me first, but some of them just republish without even asking. My articles are always indexed on my blog before they get republished, but it doesn't seem to make a difference. These sites always clearly link to the original URL, but they often tend to outrank me for the keywords I was targeting in the articles. They tend to rank in the top 5, but my original article is nowhere to be found. I plan on continuing to allow these sites to republish as I get powerful links and good traffic from them, but it's a bit frustrating that I don't seem to get the credit as the original source. I've already set up Google Authorship, but it doesn't seem to help. Is there anything I can do to make sure Google recognizes my article as the original and chooses to rank my site instead of the authority site that simply republished my article?

Is the Page Authority/Rank of my corporate site affected by my blog's PA/PR and vice versa?
If I host my blog on my corporate site (it is a wordpress blog) will the page authority and page rank of my site translate to the blog? And does this also go the other way around? My gut says this would make sense, and I think I have seen it in action with other corporate sites that host their wordpress blogs, but I want to be completely sure. Even better, if someone can explain to me how this works, that would be super helpful!

Promoting external blogs on our own
From time to time we're promoting blog posts written by our employees on their external blogs (separate domains) to our official company blog. This happens when the content is valuable for our visitors and it's worth to be shared. The post is copied in its entirety and we add the sentence This post was originally published on <external blog="" post="" link="">at the top. Will this be considered duplicate content? Should we add anything else to the republished blog post? Thanks!</external>

Second Blog on the Same Site? Best SEO Practice
I would like to start up another blog which has more of a "technical" topic coverage vs my regular blog, which appeals more to non-techie business folks. If the goal is to drive traffic ultimately to the main site, should I do this second blog on a different domain, a subdomain, or try to incorporate it as a separate-but-equal blog on the same domain as the currrent one? What would you do?
