Hi Julio,
I wrote a blog post a while ago on how to optimise your site using Yoast SEO, check it out here.
Also another one I wrote was on LSI keyword placement within content, check it out here.
If you do solid keyword research, optimise your Wordpress site as per the first post and optimise your content as per the second, you should get great results.

Hi Julio,
Robert and Thomas have linked to some excellent resources that are specific to on-page SEO for Wordpress. In addition to studying these resources, I would recommend learning about the fundamentals of SEO in a broader sense. Moz has many free educational resources for subscribers to increase their knowledge of SEO and all things marketing, including videos, written guides, and live Mozinars. I would start, however, with The Beginner's Guide to SEO and mastering Pro Analytics. Best of luck, and welcome to Moz!

Hi
I think Yoast makes the best WordPress SEO plug-in by a lot. The second best would be the All in One SEO Pack
each offer a Pro version I would use Yoast
I agree with Rob and strongly recommend Dan Shure's excellent article on setup WordPress for SEO success there is some fantastic information in their and he is a true WordPress expert.
http://moz.com/blog/setup-wordpress-for-seo-success
If you are going to be moving it like you said to a new plug-in preferably Yoast use this plug-in to keep your existing settings like your title tags and Meta tags it will save you a lot of time.
https://wordpress.org/plugins/seo-data-transporter/
if you are going to switch your current plug-in for a new one I to recommend WordPress SEO by Yoast
https://yoast.com/wordpress/plugins/seo/
If you run NGINX to use your XML Sitemaps with NGINX, Here are the rewrite rules you'll need:
# Rewrites for WordPress SEO XML Sitemap rewrite ^/sitemap_index.xml$ /index.php?sitemap=1 last; rewrite ^/([^/]+?)-sitemap([0-9]+)?.xml$ /index.php?sitemap=$1&sitemap_n=$2 last;If you feel that you're going to have trouble with settings even though there are quite logical in my opinion. I recommend purchasing the premium plug-in as you will get access to Yoast support in addition to connecting to Webmaster tools and having a very capable 301 redirect plug-in built into the Yoast WordPress SEO premium versionYou can reach out to Yoast for support at any time the cost is $89 for the first website and there are bundles discounts course afterwards.
https://yoast.com/wordpress/plugins/seo-premium/
The support you get
https://yoast.com/wordpress/plugins/seo-premium/support/
This is a good example of how in-depth Yoast support is compared to other plug-ins

Please let me know if I can be of any assistance.
Yoast

Hello Julio,
Yoast is a great plugin to use as a general framework for SEO practice - this does not mean you have to follow the instructions to the letter, but it does give you some ideas in how to create quality content and it is extremely easy to use. I use it as my go-to plug-in whenever I am setting up a site on Wordpress.
Somewhat dated, but still fairly effective, guide to using Wordpress:

Here are some more plugin options for you to consider:

Help with optimizing Wordpress:

These will all help - in short, I would strongly suggest Yoast as an SEO tool for Wordpress. Feel free to fire any questions you have my way.
Rob

How to remove 404 pages wordpress
I used the crawl tool and it return a 404 error for several pages that I no longer have published in Wordpress. They must still be on the server somewhere? Do you know how to remove them? I think they are not a file on the server like an html file since Wordpress uses databases? I figure that getting rid of the 404 errors will improve SEO is this correct? Thanks, David

How do you create tracking URLs in Wordpress without creating duplicate pages?
I use Wordpress as my CMS, but I want to track click activity to my RFQ page from different products and services on my site. The easiest way to do this is through adding a string to the end of a URL (ala http://www.netrepid.com/request-for-quote/?=colocation) The downside to this, of course, is that when Moz does its crawl diagnostic every week, I get notified that I have multiple pages with the same page title and the dup content. I'm not a programming expert, but I'm pretty handy with Wordpress and know a thing or two about 'href-fing' (yeah, that's a thing). Can someone who tracks click activity in WP with URL variables please enlighten me on how to do this without creating dup pages? Appreciate your expertise. Thanks!

"Too many on-page links" warning on all of my Wordpress pages
Hey guys, I've got like 120 "Too many on-page links" warnings in my crawl diagnostics section. They're all the pages of my WordPress blog. Is this an acceptable and expected warning for Wordpress or does something need to be better optimized? Thanks.

Duplicate Content Issues with WordPress
I'm having some difficulty with a few of the sites I'm managing right now. When I run a report here, I'm getting a duplicate content issue with sites that I'm running through WordPress. Sites running on a different CMS are not getting the issue. The duplicate content is being listed as from two URL's that are identical. I checked trailing slash, spelling, capitalization, everything. It looks like the same site is being marked as two with duplicate content. Does anyone have any ideas of what could be causing this and/or what I may be able to do to resolve the issue (or if it's really something to worry about or not)? Thanks. (and thanks for helping the new guy!)

SEOMOZ Canonical notices using Wordpress
I keeping getting the notice from SEO Moz Crawls relating to Canonical issues. I have tried Yoast SEO, All-in-One SEO and both insert the appropriate canonical code... Can anyone help determine why the crawls report this notice? Check out seoontario.ca\testamonials for an example. Could it be because the site in my SEOMOZ crawl does not have the http:// prefix? I've now installed FV Simpler SEO, a variant of All In Once SEO, but am getting the same canonical code...
