Training Recommendation for In House SEO
-
Hi,
I'm a business owner who has been dabbling in SEO for years. I have a bright, capable employee with a development/coding background and I would like her to start doing full time SEO for me. (competitive analysis, link building and content marketing specifically - I like the strategy laid out here and would like her to implement it for me)
What do you think is the best training resource for her to develop an in-depth understanding of SEO for my business?
Any recommendations for specific courses she can take?
Thanks.

Your Job: Set business goals and objectives for the company website. The jobs you listed (competitive analysis, link building and content marketing specifically) will be busy work unless you have goals and objectives. As the biz owner you understand what is going on throughout the biz but the employee might not.
Your Job: Hire SEO consultant if you are not expert SEO. When you recruit consultant, if that person does not try to learn about the details of your biz then you need a different consultant. Consultant will have costs but will keep your employee on an arrow-straight path, guide training and make sure that things advance your business and minimize ineffective work. Loss through ineffective work is a big risk. Consultant should reduce that if you hire a good one.
Your Job: Don't send a noob out to fight Goliath. Get the noob on a training program for strength and strategy. Noobs can make huge SEO mistakes. Also many experienced SEOs are noobs and don't know it.
Your Job: Instruct the employee about goals and objectives for the website. Develop a plan for reaching those goals. Involve consultant if you have one.
Employee: Get basic training from books, webinars, videos.
Employee: Start learning about the site using analytics. Where traffic comes from, what converts, what is ranking where. The more you know about your website the more effective you will be at improving it and promoting it. Most important. This will help you learn about the people who are using your site, how they do or don't engage it and if the site is serving a valuable purpose. This is a source of benchmark data.
Your Job with Employee: Review analytics data and see where it meets / does not meet biz objectives. Involve SEO consultant if you have hired one.
Employee: Start with on-page improvement based upon biz objectives. Make changes for improvement and keep very detailed records of what was changed, why changed, when changed. Watch for results and keep records.
Employee: Ask razor specific questions here at Q&A when needed.
Your Job with Employee: Develop a marketing plan for the site.
Employee: Start work on the tasks of the marketing plan with regular conferences with the SEO consultant.
Employee: Ask more razor specific questions here at Q&A when needed.
Your Job: Regular conference with employee and consultant to be sure that things are on track, get progress, recalibrate goals.

Pre Launch New Website SEO Best Practices
Hi All, I am currently mid development of a website (no testing page yet) and want to make sure I am doing my due diligence in regards to SEO. Are there best practices to always complete while a website is being built? If so what are they? I've gotten to the stage where I've read every blog on the planet and now maybe too much info. I am also focusing my Keyword Analysis around competitor research to write great copy from, but seem to be falling down a rabbit hole of way too many keywords. Is there agencies/services that would just be hired to do Keyword Research for my needs? Thanks a lot!

What's the best SEO way to benefit from your competitor's shutting down?
Hi ! Our main competitor is shutting down (website will be offline) at the end of the month and we are negotiating with them to buy their domain name: the idea would be to take advantage of their good rankings in the SERPs to redirect traffic to our pages (we're planning to crawl their site or get their sitemap and redirect th category / product pages to ours). The question is: for how long this strategy will be useful: days / weeks / months? (= for how long their pages will continue to appear in the SERPs from the day we enable the 301 redirections to our site?) Thanks in advance for your help! And if you have better suggestions, we're up to hear them of course.. 😉 Cheers

We are a car leasing company based in the UK and need an SEO agency to help us rank in a very competitive market. We have a relatively small budget of £2500 - £4000 per month. I appreciate this not a massive budget but that is where we are at. Any input would be much appreciated. Regards

What is the difference between "external backlinks" & "referring domains" on Majestic SEO?
According to Majestic SEO's glossary, a "Referring domain, also known as "ref domain", is a domain from which a backlink is pointing to a page or link." Given this definition, I'm not sure what an external backlink is?

I would like a good SEO company
Hi, I know this must be a repeated question but I would like to have an SEO company that would take care of getting my site on the top three pages of google and I would like some advice over my website. I have been investing in link building for a month now but I think my meta tag might not be the most appropriate, i should probably have various and came across your website. I have found zero negative feed back on your company, I run other business but this is my first online experience and don't have the time to give it the SEO so with that in mind I would like to know what SEO packages would you recommend for my business and in what time would I be seeing page ranks in google bing and yahoo. I hope you can help me out, I'm a newbie at this and my online business is interesting and want to see it already operating my website is sheep buy.com, concept is people can sell for free, not just post an item like a classified site but actually sell for free through paypal and we don't charge a fee, so would really want some insight. Hope you can help me out. Beat regards Jerry

Starting SEO
Hi everyone, I am new to SEO basically learning as I go and trying to catch up on all of the information needed to successfully move a website up the search engine ranks. The website I am trying to optimize is www.luxurylifestylevacationhomes.com/. Right now I have determined which keywords I want to use, I have saturated them into the website in an organic way and have submitted the sites to various engines, also I have created a Facebook fan page which has 606 active monthly users in it's first month ( I don't know if that's a great number), as well as started writing a blog where I am putting links to the page in each relevant blog. My question has 3 parts 1. what else should I be doing to improve my ranking? 2. how do I find quality relevant websites that want to link exchange? 3. What is the best way to really get volume/ quality links to a relatively unknown site?Any advice or Ideas help and are very appreciated. Thanks
