address on my websiteto help with local searches
-
If I put my address on my website, does it help that page to rank for local searches? especially if it's the same address that i am using for moz local and all my citations?
I want my other pages to rank in different cities as well as i have a service that travels to all cities in my state. Will that address of my home town on my home page make google think that i don't service other cities?
Thanks,
Ron

Hi Ron,
It's perfectly fine to run your business out of your home. No danger of being banned for this. Just be sure you are obeying Google's guidelines regarding how your address is displayed based on your business model:
-
My business address is a residential listing as I run an onsite service business and don't have an office other than my home office. how does Google differentiate legitimate home offices like mine and fake residential listings from spammers? am I in danger of being banned because I have a home office?
-
Hi Ron,
Yes, you can report competitors you know are spamming. 51Blocks has a good tutorial on how to do this: -
They would be residential addresses. It sounds like a bad idea if i am risking being banned.
My competitors have been listing the general addresses of office buildings in different cities without listing an office number. I know for a fact these are bogus listings and they don't actually have an office in these office buildings. Can i report them via a SPAM report to Google?
-
I think that partly depends on the level of trust you have with your workers. If they are high trust and business dealings take place at those addresses then it might make sense, but if these are residential addresses you could be playing with fire as they, and your primary listing, could get banned.

THanks for the help Ryan! Another question, I have some of my workers living in some of the cities where my services are performed and was wondering if i could list their address in those cities as my business address in those cities for a google local listing. They would be able to answer any letters that google sent those addresses to verify them. I could then use moz local for the citations in those cities using the landing page on my site specifically for those cities. This way, i'll have local listings coming up in the cities that i service helping customers to find me. I see my competitors doing this a lot and it works wonders for them. Is this a good idea or bad idea?
-
Hi Ron. Yes, having a Name Address and Phone (NAP) that matches queries and listings on your landing page is part of what goes into ranking a specific page. See: http://moz.com/local-search-ranking-factors and, "HTML NAP Matching My Business Page NAP" You should be able to set your service area within Google, see: https://support.google.com/business/answer/3038163, which shouldn't conflict with your landing page. Be sure to avoid creating something like fake business addresses though, as that and other factors are negatives. Cheers!

What are the best link strategies to increase rankings in Local Pack / GMB and where to find them?
As someone who manages GMB for 50 plus local US clients, I absolutely loved this article https://moz.com/local-search-ranking-factors#local-pack-finder-ranking-factors and found it somewhat useful. Most of the gurus are saying link building is the key, but I wish at least one of them would mention where do we find these links. Is there a reliable source for this ( based on personal experience only please ) ? A one stop shop for any local business to do quality links ? I feel like to be truly useful to a local business this piece of the puzzle is missing and I would truly appreciate anyone's help.

Home Page not Ranking on Local Community Sites
I am helping out with a couple of community sites and am seeing the same problem on both. They are small non-commercial local websites. One has 5 or 6 relevant links to the home page, and the title tag and content have been optimised for the name of the group and the location (and in any case the phrase is completely non-competitive). The other one has few links and isn't optimised. Both sites are fairly new. Both sites have the same problem in that when you search for the name of the group, it is not the home page that comes up but another page. My experience is mainly in the more competitive commercial arena, so I thought that these community sites would be simple! Can anyone point me in the right direction as to why this might be? No spammy links on either. These are community sites that are not particularly well maintained, but the phrases I am searching for are non-competitive. I have checked that the home pages are not no-indexed. Any tips much appreciated!

Local citations - domain or business name
I have a bit of a tricky situation with a client where there is some history with old domains. But this is the current situation which I need to stick to: Business name (all made up) is Acme Print 2 live websites - acme-niche(dot)com and productsandservices(dot)com Third website acmeprint(dot)com is live and owned by an old partner, different NAP. acme-niche(dot)com and productsandservices(dot)com share the same NAP. Not much traffic and a bit of a poor domain profile for acme-niche(dot)com, so suggest just using productsandservices(dot)com. Also acme-niche(dot)com would be a bit misleading for use for the whole business in any case. However, all content for productsandservices(dot)com refers to Acme Print. Because of all the confusion should we keep the productsandservices(dot)com referring to Acme Print throughout, or update with new productsandservices(dot)com logo, mention that it is a trading name of Acme Print and refer to the trading domain name throughout the content. I want to know the best option for listings and citations - the trading name which is a domain name or Acme Print? I've not worked with a local site where domain name and business name and a separate business with domain are mixed up.

Hello Every one, I recently got a big project for cleaning up some old listings (around 120 locations), witch means to claim and delete them, as you guys know most of the directory's don't give the option to delete the listing after you claim that. A site is preforming well for 1 local term, but with a slight change to the term it dosnt rank.
Ive got a site thats currently ranking #2 in the local 7 pack listings for the search term : "garden design [city]" but is not ranking at all for "garden designer [city]" (note the "er" at the end of designer). The search traffic for these 2 terms is pretty much the same, and id like to get the site ranking for "garden designer [city]". The only thing i can think of is thats different is that in the <title>tag for the homepage of the site we have "Garden Design [City] - .....", is there any other way i can try and up the local 7 pack ranking for my site other than changing the title tag ?</p> <p>Im thinking of running a link building campaign for the phrase "garden designer [city]", but apart from that i cant think of anything else that could help up my rankings for this, any ideas ?</p></title>
