Are new pages treated similar to new domains with respect to ranking?
-
Hello...I'm hoping to get some advice or guidance regarding the following.
My website has gone from a 30 page site about loans, to a 500 page site covering a much wider range of products such as mortgages and other more specific loan related pages.
All the new pages were made live at the same time, and I've been through GWT tools to add pages with in the Google fetch and most have been indexed fine.
My question is, how should I expect Google to treat all of these new pages? The site has changed massively and many of the new pages are at pages 3-4 for their key terms.
Will Google treat these new pages in the same way it may a new domain, e.g. it could be potenitally a couple of months before the pages start to rank better?
I appreciate that the terms are very competitive.
Thanks!

If you are publishing "fresh news" about subjects that appear on other websites, it can be extremely difficult to rank because of the immediate volume of content being published, much of it on powerful sites.
I can have established articles on my site, that have been there for years, this is a site with a DA of 76. These articles can be swamped in the SERPs by content being published on the New York Times, CNN, LA Times, and many other very powerful and very popular sites. My rankings will come back eventually, when the content is either deleted from the news sites or it is buried deep in their site as fresher news is added.

Thanks both for your comment, and feedback.
I have read on a few occassions that others are experiencing a kind of sandbox effect for new pages, regardless of root domain authority, on page or off page SEO/links. I suspect this sandbox/holding period is longer depending on the competition and content type. E.g, you would expect fresh news or viral content to be able to rank pretty quickly given it is time dependent if it is to be of value to the searcher/web user.
This article dated July 14 explains that there have experienced an approx 30 day "holding" period: http://seotraffichacks.com/respond-googles-new-30-day-links-sandbox/

Just reporting observations.....
I add a new article a few times per month on a domain that is strong and long-established.
The articles that I write usually target keywords that can be moderately to quite difficult. The articles are usually substantive with about 1000 to 3000 words and several images. In my opinion they are some of the better content on the web for their topics.
When these articles are launched they often rank ten to twenty pages deep in the SERPs. They stay there for months. I do nothing to promote them other than add them to category pages on my site, list them for a short time on the homepage and news page. After a few months the ones that target easy keywords might be in the first page of google. The ones that target moderate to difficult terms slowly climb the SERPs and may take a year, sometimes two years to reach the first page.
This is how I have published for years. Things have worked this way for years. I believe that google promotes these pages based upon how visitors respond to them. Slowly google figures out that visitors engage these pages and slowly promotes them up the SERPs. I zero time promoting them beyond my website. I would rather spend that time on the next article.

This is a big, "It depends," sort of question, but in general new pages are experiencing the benefits of established domains in both traffic to that domain (and thus potential new links coming from people visiting the new pages), the inherit DA of the domain that can be associated with pages on the domain, and benefits derived from other marketing channels to the domain as a whole. To keep it short, while a new domain has to establish every facet of it's authority and trust, a new page on a domain with lots of authority and trust will be established much faster. Cheers!

Redirects affect on page and domain authority
Hi - excuse me if this is stupid question but I'm rather new to this. Currently the PA for the home page is 16 and the DA 28 and I have some concerns that my efforts are being diluted. When I use OSE on www.sassandgrace.co.uk I get different link results to sassandgrace.co.uk but there is a redirect in place to sassandgrace.co.uk and cannot run a crawl report, for example, on www.sassandgrace.co.uk. The PA and DA are identical for each but the number of links different With a smallish number of links pointing to each but with a redirect in place, am I losing some of the effect or is having the redirect in place giving me all the credit for links to both addresses? Thanks

Should I offer our free eBook on its own page?
I work for an e-commerce website and we have written a super helpful eBook about one of the kinds of products we sell. The original idea was to offer it on the main page that we direct people to when they're shopping for this product, but it occurred to me that it might be better for link building and less cluttered if it has its own page. But we are concerned that link building to a separate page will not help with SEO for the main product page, which was the original goal. What should we do? Pros/cons?

Looking for Feedback on Rankings Dropping
Hi, I am looking for some guidance on figuring out a problem I am having with one of my clients. Their site is http://www.macton.com. They have seen a pretty significant drop in rankings for "hoist systems" "industrial turntables" and "railroad equipment." Below is my analysis and thoughts. Please let me know if you have any input you can provide me with. Hoist Systems Rankings started dropping significantly July 2nd. Their average position was around the 2nd - 3rd page. They're now in position 100. Some things I noticed is that Google is now ranking the page /freight_rail/portable-car-hoist-freight for this term, whereas a few months ago it was ranking /rail_equipment/car-hoist. I'm not sure why Google has started to rank this new page for this term when there is no reference to that keyword in the page and the other one is better suited. Industrial Turntables Rankings started dropping off in January and they have been up and down and even fell off for a bit in March. They took a deep dive May 28 - Jun 11 and are slowly picking up. I noticed that Google is also changing which page it is choosing to rank for this term. Currently it is ranking /rail_equipment/locomotive-turntables, previously it was ranking the homepage around May 28th, and before that it was /equipment/industrial-testing. Some things we thought would help this was to create a whole new page just on industrial turntables in order to rank better for this term. Another thing that I think would be highly beneficial is to do some more aggressive link building. Their top anchor text is all brand related, and very few include their target keywords. To my knowledge, I don't think they have a penguin issue, although I could be mistaken. Can anyone provide input and/or guidance on my analysis? Any suggestions?

How does Google treat multiple backlinks on the same page?
Hello mozCrew Just a quick yay or nay. We have an embeddable code on our site for customers who want to post our link on their website listed here: http://www.accupos.com/etc/embed-code-restaurants.php But in our link, there are actually 2 separate links, one branding link that says the name of our company, AccuPOS, and another link which targets a specific target keyword "Restaurant POS Software". My question is, does Google only give credit for the branding link, since it is listed FIRST? Or will we get double credit? Is this a good or bad practice, and what would you recommend? Thank you! Page with PR3 but no authority
Hello! I have been offered the possibility of having a link to my site included in this page, but I am a bit confused with it's metrics and I was wondering if you could help me cast some light on the matter. Why does it have Page and Domain authority 1? And why does it have page rank 3? Is it dodgy or should I go for it? Thank you! PS: It's not a paid link, it would be a partnership that would imply a link in this site.

Hubpages and Page authority
Hi, I've created a Hubpage awhile back and I see the url has a page authority over 50. How much does Domain authority influence page authority? The url has only 3 (registered) backlinks, so I cannot see an obvious explanation why. I understand that Hubpages was one of the sites that "took a hit" with the Panda update, but it has a domain authority of 84...
