Adwords CTR by position
-
Hi first post and look forward to contributing at some point. I've learnt our sector is going to have a shakeup with some big trademark bans on the way. I'm trying to get an idea of the percentage of traffic that currently clicks on paid ads at google vs organic results. Are there reports that have been done that show CRT for each position for each category?
-
Thanks for your responses, I'll try to clarify my question. This is a graph I stumbled across looking at Google Russia, http://www.russiansearchtips.com/2011/09/. Is anyone aware of similar data for the US, or Google in general? Or is there data that shows the split between clicks on PAID vs clicks on organic links, ie is it 50/50?

I think you're best bet to see how your ad position affects your CTR would be to create an experiment in Adwords and set different keyword bids for the same ad. That way you could determine your sweet spot for CPC vs CTR.

Because the adwords ranking method is based upon total yield of the ads.... meaning that
(number of clicks) x (cost of clicks)
is an important part of the calculation, it is possible - even probable - that the second or third position could have ten times the CTR of the first ad.
The first ad could have a clickthrough rate of 1% and be bidding $10 per click.... and the second position ad could have a clickthrough rate of 10% and be bidding $0.99 per click.

Does link position matter in the content/html code
My question is that if I have several links going to different landing pages will the one at the top of the content pass more value than ones at the bottom. Assuming that there are not more than 1 of the same link in the content. The ultimate question is whether or not link position in the content/html code make a difference if it passes more value. This question comes in response to this whiteboard Friday https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xAH762AqUTU Rand talks about how if there are 2 links going to the same URL from the same content page then google will only inherit the value of the anchor text from the first link on the page and not the both of them. Meaning that google will treat that second link as if it doesn’t exist. There are lots of resources that shows this was true but there isn’t much content newer than 2010 that say this is still true, We all know that things have changed a lot since then Does that make sense?

Positions dropped and do not recover
Hi all, Site: https://www.fascinators.com.au k/w: fascinators (this is the main one I am looking at) About 2 years ago, I redesigned the site. It used to be on first positions in Google Australia. After redesign, positions dropped and never recovered. No matter what I do, I can not get them back. I even involved professional SEO agency for the last 6 month to help build links, but nothing works. (old site used really old non mobile-friendly engine) As far as I know site is technically sound with no issues. In the last few month position for my main keyword 'fascinators' jumps really wildly. From position 9 to not being in Google first 100. And jump can happen overnight. As of today it disappeared from first 100 again. I am really tearing my hair out on what can be wrong. Link building is underway. This is one area I am aware of. Thinking of keyword spamming, i removed lots of 'fascinators' from URL, but that did not seem to help much. Any ideas will be greatly appreciated! Thanks, Rudolf

In one of our websites (ecommerce) with the implementation of structured data we noticed a significant drop in positions in the results.
Does anyone have a similar experience? Thanks... 🙂0 -
Page position dropped on Google
Hey Guys, My web designer has recommended this forum to use, the reason being: my google position has been dropped from page 1 to page 10 in the last week. The site is weloveschoolsigns.co.uk, but our main business site is textstyles.co.uk the school signs are a product of text styles. I have been told off my SEO company, that because I have changed the school logo to the text styles logo, Google have penalised me for it, and dropped us from page 1 for numerous keywords, to page 10 or more. They have also said that duplicate content within the school site http://www.weloveschoolsigns.co.uk/school-signs-made-easy/ has also a contributed to the drop in positions. (this content is not on the textstyles site) Lastly they said, that having the same telephone number is a definate no no. They said that I have been penalised, because google see the above as trying to monopolise on the market. I don’t know if all this is true, as the SEO is way above my head, but they have quoted me £1250 to repair all the errors, when the site only cost £750. They have also mentioned that because of the above changes, the main text styles site will also be punished. Any thoughts on this matter would be much appreciated as I don't know whether to pay them to crack on, or accept the new positions. Either way I'm very confused. Thanks Thomas

Losing Positions
HELP!!! after implementing some changes suggested by SEOMoz Pro the only changed is that i lost some very very very dear positions. I had expected that my website would raise in position due to the changes but in fact it lost some. I live in the netherlands so i use Google NL and Bing NL for rank tracking. For some specific keywords like: kamperen bij de boer, boerderijcampings, boerencampings, Vekabo Campings, minicampings, kampeerartikelen, boerencamping frankrijk i only lost positions and thus visitors. Some of the keywords lost about 9 positions. What am i doing wrong? I do everything SEOMoz suggested including changing 301 titles on my website due to titletags with more then 70 characters and the only thing that happens is losing positions? Duplicate content is no longer an issue. No errors were found what so ever and still in stead of improving the rankings the declined. Who can help me because this is not what i expected from this program.
