Cash for gold fails to hit the jackpot
-
Buon giorno from 10 degrees C wetherby Uk...
This page http://www.ramsdensforcash.co.uk/cash-for-gold/ has languished in the backwaters of the SERPS for target term "Cash for Gold" for too long (6 months).
Heres what ive done so far:
On page markup optimized - tick
Internally linked - tick
Checked and resolved duplicate contnet - tickToday i took a close look at how a competitor sites performs for targetted content and ramsdens is not far behind. So the only thing ive got left is internal & externall link building. SO i guess i'm asking..."Is link building the only tactic left?"
Grazie tanto,
David

The homepage is your most important page, most PR, naturally linked to most, TLD etc.
If "cash for gold" is your most important target for your site you should target your homepage for that term if it is a highly competitive term and i'm sure it is.
-
Yep, you need to generate some "votes" towards that page, basically in that niche if they have any boutiques opened in any commercial mall in UK you can easily ask a link back from them(supposing that the mall has a website).
I'm working in the same niche but targeting another country and I must say that reputed business listing websites like yellow pages helped. New boutique opening, or any other information that could be newsworthy then you should definitely consider some press releases distribution(consider that a press release from Apple is generating 5k+ backlinks towards their website) .

I wouldn't say it is the only tactic left but it should be the most important - Assuming that all on-site optimization is complete at least.
Other things to think about which might help are image optimization (Alt tags, file names etc) and social work. Also make sure the content is as good as possible and update it regularly.
Make sure if you start a link building campaign that you don't go crazy on anchor text. For every 10 links built, I would make 6 branded (mydomain.com or something similar), 2 natural anchor text (click here etc), 1 long tail anchor with inclusion of the main keyword ("great prices on cash for gold" or something similar) and finally maybe 1 link with exact match anchor text (cash for gold). There is no way of knowing for sure the correct amounts of each so you will have to test as you go along but the above formula should help
Matt
EDIT: I knew I saw an article recently about building a natural link profile and I have just found it. Clicky me!
I might even write my own version of the above link at some point soon showing some of my findings after some extensive testing.

Is it a Panda/Penguin hit? Or it's just a natural ranking drop?
My traffic comes from google. This is the traffic profile. Does it look like a Panda or Penguin hit? I have a hard time determining it myself. Thanks. ne0r7kg.png

Do you think my client is being hit for duplicate content?
Wordpress website. The client's website is http://www.denenapoints.com/ The URL that we purchase so that we could setup the hosting account is http://houston-injury-lawyers.com, which shows 1 page indexed in Google when I search for site:http://houston-injury-lawyers.com On http://www.denenapoints.com/ there is <link rel="<a class="attribute-value">canonical</a>" href="http://houston-injury-lawyers.com/"> But on http://houston-injury-lawyers.com it says the same thing, <link rel="<a class="attribute-value">canonical</a>" href="http://houston-injury-lawyers.com/" /> Is this how it should be setup, assuming that we want everything to point to http://denenapoints.com/? Maybe we should do a 301 redirect to be 100% Sure? Hopefully I explained this well enough. Please let me know if anyone has any thoughts, thanks!

Do you think this site has been hit by penguin?
Hi Guys, I need some opinion on a website i am working on www.colourbnners.co.uk They updated their website in August but the company they used did not take into account the URL structure and hence there's a massive loss in links in August time. They also dropped off Google for all their key terms except their brand name 'colour banners'
Technical SEO | | gezzagregz
Since then, they have implemented a 301 redirect. Some key points They have not received any manual warnings in WMT I have disavowed some poor quality links that they have built over the years I am building high quality links quite selectively/slowly There were a lot of duplicate content issues - these have been resolved now.
So my question to you SEO pros is do you think its penguin? or something that i am missing?
If it is penguin, what is the best form of attack to get it removed? regards gezzagrez0 -
A possible hit by panda
Hi there, on the panda update a few weeks ago i noticed i dropped 8 places for a very competitive keyword. All my content in the site is unique and quality. Its also not published elsewhere. I think the update did knock this one keyword down for me - no others got hti though. Perhaps the landing page got it? too many mentions of the keyword? however i didn't think i spammed it on the page, perhaps jsut mentioned once or twice - any ideas? Any help aprpeciated 🙂

http://www.sandersonweatherall.co.uk/office-to-let-leeds/ 1. Ensured the Markup follows SEO best parctice
2. Internally linked to the page via a scrolling footer
3. Shortened the URL
4. Requested the Social media efforts points links to the page
5. Requested additional content But i wonder... Is the reason for hitting a glass ceiling now down to lack of content ie just one page or is there a deeper issue of an indexing road block? Any insights welcome 🙂0 -

My Website www.getyourphotosoncanvas.com experienced a sudden and dramatic loss of presence on Google about three weeks ago. I first thought it was something to do with the new Google Algorithm. I also contacted Google to be re-evaluated. They replied:
Reconsideration request for http://www.getyourphotosoncanvas.com/: No manual spam actions foundMay 10, 2012 Dear site owner or webmaster of http://www.getyourphotosoncanvas.com/,
We received a request from a site owner to reconsider http://www.getyourphotosoncanvas.com/ for compliance with Google's Webmaster Guidelines. - - - - - -
We reviewed your site and found no manual actions by the webspam team that might affect your site's ranking in Google. There's no need to file a reconsideration request for your site, because any ranking issues you may be experiencing are not related to a manual action taken by the webspam team.
Google Search Quality Team I have ran all kinds of web crawl tests, Google webmaster, talked with SEO “Experts” and still can not figure out what is happening. I decided to use a couple of SEOmoz tools to try to help me explain what is happening. I figured that if I could take a very specific and unique KeyPhrase and run it on a specific page that I might be able to better explain what is happening. Basically, We appear to be no longer searchable by key words or phrases on google?
There was another post regarding canonical tag issues; resolved, I removed all canonical tags for now. Today I discovered the links and I suspect that having even
1 link for this website will penalize you in Google. Here are some Webmaster Tools pages for reference: I also noted that the image for the link is from an old site hosted on www.Globat.com. I don't know what that significance might be. I left them in January. Thanks in advance for any help and advice you can offer, Ray Webmaster-Tools-Query_Your-Photo-On-Canvas.jpg Webmaster-Tools-Query_Photo-On-Canvas.jpg Webmaster-Tools-Query_Photos-On-Canvas.jpg Webmaster-Tools-Links_siteloki.jpg Webmaster-Tools-Links_siteloki_links.jpg0 -
Looking for sites hit by Penguin for research
I'm doing some link profile analysis and need examples of sites hit by Penguin (not Panda). If you have a site that was hit and are willing to share, please PM me: Your site homepage URL Main keyword(s) you lost rankings for (preferably keywords your homepage was ranked for but no longer is) I will keep your information strictly confidential and will not share it. (I will publish the results of my findings, but will not mention any of the sites used for research.) Thanks.

How much of a hit to changing urls?
Hi, We have a few pages that from an SEO perspective have poor URLs. We are planning on changing them (and 301 redirecting) the old page to the new page. I heard in the past, this can temporarily negatively impact your SERP rank etc. Since the old URLs are bad, even if there is a temporary negative hit, changing them in the long run it is better, but curious if anyone has any experience on what to expect.
