My first Guest post. Well, it's about quality!
-
I've started my new blog two months ago. I thought about two things: quality and authority.
So, I started with high-quality content and let me tell you that based on my own experience, quality is the queen of all this. Now, my new blog reaches roughly 270 unique users each day that generate 811 daily page views (1% from Google, %0.3 from other search engines, 56% from social media, 28% from links, 14% direct, 0.7% spammy sites). Alexa Global: 1,238,771
Then I've started the author journey trying to write guest posts on high-quality blogs. I found that there're two options to do guest blogging. Writing an article medium-quality and keep the high-quality content for my blog. Or, providing a high-quality content under any post that comes with my name. I found a high-quality blog which may accept my article. So, I thought about the two options and then I decided to provide a very high-quality content and I did.
The message which I received about my article was so amazing. I had some grammars mistakes and they said literally: "We didn't mind as much doing the editing since you put so much effort into providing our readers with excellent content!"
I'm so happy really and based on this experience I recommend you to think about the authority more than the link. What will make you provide high-quality content under your name instead of keeping it only for your blog.
Have an experience with guest blogging? Why don't you share it with us to help others as well?
-
I do agree with you Ross and based on my own experience, my first guest post helped my blog a lot as a new blog.
-
I think it's about the main goal. I want to be a good author in general and you want to be a good author only in your blog. But in both the "Good author" still exist.
-
Hey Andy, thank you so much.
Yes yes, Google send me only about 10/5/3 every day, other's comes from social media and mentions.
When I done writing my first guest post, I read about 30 posts on the blog to choose relevant links and I added about 10 internal links for them and only one link for me in the author box. But they gave me three relevant links as a gift.
-
Thank you so much for your suggestion. I found a lot of options there and I will study theme to choose the best.

I think that to go back to what the op was saying he is trying to build an authoritative presence. If you already have that then what you are saying is definitely true. However, if you are just beginning a blog or a brand then going to the audience can be a much better approach than waiting for them to find you. I agree with you that if you want to keep an audience over time then you must be building that great original content into your own site, its just that getting out into the face of your audience in my opinion is a no brainer for a new blog or brand and I think it is still overlooked.

I have been writing for about 40 years and have worked under a few different editors. After all of that coaching, my writing can still be improved. To help with that, I still submit my important writing to a paid editor who reviews it critically and suggests ways to improve clarity, emphasis, grammar, and punctuation. Having a good editor improve an article can cost more than many publishers are willing to pay to have their articles written. It all depends upon the quality that you hope to achieve.
If you have concerns about your writing a professional editor might help you improve. I have used Scribendi academic editing and am happy with their work.

Congrats.
Personally, I don't do guest blogging or even try to get links. I can see what pages get links naturally on my site, and it is truly the best content that actually helps people (tutorials \ guides etc). These are pages that can take a week to write.
I wouldn't want to put my best content on another blog when I can just get many 100's of visitors a week from just great article on my own site.
Just how many visitors would that good article have got if you had posted it to your own site? And what benefit does the one link give you?
-
Well done on getting some content published - its seems to be getting harder.
I am a big fan of Guest blogging, but not done for SEO purposes but for brand building.
If you are writing content where your potential customers are and they see your brand in a place they trust they are more likely to come and visit, or if they see you in the SERPs more likely to click on your link.
The link (if you get one), is just a second benefit - before the days of Google to get traffic to your site was to get links and mentions on other websites that was relevant to drive awareness of your site - I don't think anything has changed, just some people in the industry saw it as a way to cheat Google and was punished so its now seen as bad tatic - but if done correctly can drive some wonderful traffic to your site.
We do accept Guest post onto our blog, but this is down to the editors discretion but sometimes they can add some real value to our visitors - so it helps both parties.

Thanks, EGOL.
I think my next step will be about improving my grammar skills. So, I make sure that there's nothing wrong at all.
I remember that I read an article about the first taste. In other words the first impression or the first contact. As you said it's really rare if you published a guest post. But, let's imagine I gave you one, Good content. I really take one-two days to write 500 words, what about 2000 as a good article? Sometimes as what heppened the high-quality is enough. Some times it's not, maybe the grammar mistakes bothers you. So, the first taste in this case will be "not a good writer" and this will have an effect on the feture for me with you. While I'm just taking my first steps in a very long journey, the conection between me and what can I call masters or people who teach in blogging, writing and making content. This conection is very important for me as I learn from them, I want to show them that I've learned to be good enough for them not just a spammer or a horrible content creator. It's about there's two ways and I would like to take the good one even if it harder than the other one and need more effort. Let's say as I say always it's about **Respect. **I respect me, you, the industry and the reader as well. Just it.
Again thank you so much and have a good day.

Congratulations. I am glad that you are focused on quality.
I don't do guest blogging but I receive requests and proposed articles from lots of people. It is really, really rare that I publish one because they are mostly horrible. So if you got one accepted on a nice blog and received their compliments that is a big accomplishment.
Nice work!

Strategies for Enhancing Lead Generation from Blog Posts
Hello Moz Community, I've been running a blog ( www[dot]arrify[dot]com ) for a while, focused on Salesforce. I'm looking to enhance my lead-generation efforts through my blog content. I would appreciate insights and strategies on the following: SEO Best Practices: How can I optimize my blog posts for better search engine visibility to attract more potential leads? Content Engagement: What types of content (e.g., infographics, videos, in-depth guides) have been most effective for engaging readers and encouraging them to provide their contact information? CTA Placement: Where is the most effective placement for calls-to-action within a blog post to maximize lead capture without detracting from user experience? Lead Capture Forms: Are there any recommended practices for designing lead capture forms that encourage sign-ups? Any specific examples or case studies would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance for your help!

Is there a way to automate finding low quality content on your site?
Hi all, I have a site that was once #1 for many keywords. Fast forward a number of years and I am sinking lower and lower and it really started to sink low from September 2012 and appears to be due to an algo update. How should I go about finding my low quality pages? I am told that I might have pages bringing my entire site down. I deleted heaps of low quality pages but not seeing any improvements (might be a little impatient). Any tips for finding bad content?

Can you help me with my options on publishing others' news releases on my site?
I wish to add a "News" section to a highly-read, highly ranked blog I have. The News pieces will not be in the same flow as my regular posts. I'm contemplating what the best way to do this is, and would like some advice, please. I see these options: Option 1. Pay textbroker type people to rewrite news releases and post them into the news flow. Pro: indexable content. Con: expense. Option 2: Have a Submit News form on the site for vendors to submit their news stories. I would have to ask them to rewrite their stories to avoid dup content. Pros: Easy for me, no cost. Cons: Will still get dup content I bet, a lot of companies won't take the time to do it, and I will have no control over quality. (I really doubt this option will work). Option 3: Post news releases from companies in their raw format, and mark them as no index (even if I don't noindex, they won't move up the SERPs anyway, so why not just noindex them). Pros: very easy, all the news I want. Cons: not creating any indexable content. Bonus question: If I do Option #3, and I place an adsense ad on the page, will it work the same as if it was an indexed, non-duplicate content page? Your thoughts?

Can I tap into everyone's creativity for a meme?
About a week ago there was an awesome YouMoz post entitled How To Use Memes to Build EASY Backlinks & Traffic. I was so inspired by this post to come up with something awesome. I have been thinking long and hard about it ever since then, even browsing meme sites, and I'm coming up with NOTHING. Our company, stadriemblems.com designs and supplies custom embroidered patches for uniforms, events, and things of that nature. I know that I know the niche the best, but I'm not good at funny. So maybe someone who's good at funny can come up with something without having to know all the ins and outs of the niche. I'd so greatly appreciate some suggestions. I'll give everyone who tries a thumps-up, even if it's not good!

Harder and harder to get articles approved on My Blog Guest
Hi People, So I got a My Blog Guest account (paid) and have now for a while, I do back the service as its a great system and works well BUT mods are making it very hard work. I put up around 20 articles a month on this site which costs me £300+ to have produced by a professional copywriter and the standard is very high, I get feedback from bloggers commenting on how good the articles are because of the quality of the content (articles are 500 - 550 words). So all I ask in return is 1 link in the body and 1 link in the byline. I ask the copy writer to put a particular keyword somewhere in the content where it best fits, if its a top 5/top 10 article the keyword sometimes fits best in the first few paragraphs before it flows into the list. This is where the problem is: Now these articles are good, they have to be as there for a company with products in major high street retail stores so quality is not an issue. If I put the link in the first paragraph I get these kind of responses: "Linking from opening paragraph is rude to say at least" If I put the link in the second paragraph I get these kind of responses: "Please move your body link to the bottom of the article or better the byline" "The normal procedure is to Hide articles with links in the first few paragraphs like this one...Please edit to put the link in the second half of the article" "Links should be in the second half of the post" Then the articles are taken down until I do what they say! It's my article I can put the link where I want its up to the blog owner whether they want it or not, its not the content you want to administrate its the quality of the blogs, I got users private emailing me asking me to buy links, I've got users applying for articles where there using blogspot and wordpress free sites with content scrapped from the web. I think they got bigger problems then a link in the second paragraph and not the third.

Posting youtube videos on your site-use irframe or "old embed code"
If you choose "embed" now, youtube gives you the choice of using an iframe: <iframe width="430" height="352" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/0-nKXALtHWs?rel=0" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen=""></iframe> or, the old embed code: <object width="430" height="352"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/0-nKXALtHWs?version=3&hl=en_US&rel=0"><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/0-nKXALtHWs?version=3&hl=en_US&rel=0" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="430" height="352" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true"></object> Is either better when it comes to seo?

Are post tags on blogs still useful?
Hello I have a number of sites on Wordpress which all still use the post tag feature. Is this something that I should really be avoiding due to duplicate content issues in the url's of the site, or is it still something that can help SEO wise? I only ask as I did a crawl diagnostics report on SEOmoz and it found that 48 of my title elements were too short due to these tags in the URL's. If you do all suggest I keep using them, should they be 3 odd words which are keywords? Thanks in advance.

Do Older Post Dates Affect Click Throughs From Google ?
My Blog Entries appear in Google with a date, do those dates matter ? Will people stay away from an older date, say 2009 ? Is it worth removing the dates ? Or should I update the entry and change published date ?
