Drupal's Yoast
-
Hi.
I'm wondering if anyone knows of an equivalent to Yoast for Drupal sites? Is there such a thing?
I've been asked whether I could optimize a Drupal site and am wondering if the guiding principles and techniques I use for HTML and Wordpress sites can be easily transferred to a Drupal implementation, or whether I might be setting myself (and the client!) up for failure.
Any observations or advice would be appreciated.

Just wanted to post this here for anyone else who views this question - a tool that claims to be very similar to Yoast for Wordpress. http://getlevelten.com/products/oe/search-engine-optimization
I haven't looked into it any further at this point so can't offer an opinion.

Thank you so much Dirk. So helpful.
My answer is going to be like theirs - "everything". So no help. I think it best to just leave this question for now, and I'll post another one when I'm knee deep with specific questions I need answered. I don't want to unnecessarily waste anyone's time.
Thank you again. I really appreciate your efforts.

Hi Donna,
Didn't forget your question - however the first reply I got was a bit too generic (Drupal can do everything that Yoast does, and even better, but sometimes several modules are required).
Would it be possible to indicate for which Yoast functions you would need a solution - so I can be a bit more specific in when asking info from them.

Thanks Dirk. I appreciate you doing that for me.

Hi Donna,
Will check with them (hope that they didn't program everything from scratch) - will be for beginning of next week, weekend already started in Europe...

Thank you Dirk.
This is a good place for me to start. Any chance you could ask your technical partner which modules they'd recommend given it seems to have satisfied your requirements?

Hi Donna,
The general principles are also applicable for Drupal - which normally is quite flexible to fine tune in terms of SEO. It is however a bit more complex to setup & configure compared to a Wordpress site.
You should check the tools mentioned in this article https://www.acquia.com/blog/4-steps-optimize-your-drupal-site-increase-traffic (step 2 list some modules that can help - the rest will be quite obvious for you). Acquia is the company founded by the guy who started Drupal - so the modules that are suggested should be ok.
We use Drupal as well - but as it's implemented by a technical partner we just give the requirements, we don't know which modules they use to deliver what we ask.
Hope this helps
Dirk

URL with query string being indexed over it's parent page?
I noticed earlier this week that this page - https://www.ihasco.co.uk/courses/detail/bomb-threats-and-suspicious-packages?channel=care was being indexed instead of this page - https://www.ihasco.co.uk/courses/detail/bomb-threats-and-suspicious-packages for its various keywords We have rel=canonical tags correctly set up and all internal links to these pages with query strings are nofollow, so why is this page being indexed? Any help would be appreciated 🙂

Matt Cutts says 404 unavailable products on the 'average' ecommerce site.
If you're an ecommerce site owner, will you be changing how you deal with unavailable products as a result of the recent video from Matt Cutts? Will you be moving over to a 404 instead of leaving the pages live still? For us, as more products were becoming unavailable, I had started to worry about the impact of this on the website (bad user experience, Panda issues from bounce rates, etc.). But, having spoken to other website owners, some say it's better to leave the unavailable product pages there as this offers more value (it ranks well so attracts traffic, links to those pages, it allows you to get the product back up quickly if it unexpectedly becomes available, etc.). I guess there's many solutions, for example, using ItemAvailability schema, that might be better than a 404 (custom or not). But then, if it's showing as unavailable on the SERPS, will anyone bother clicking on it anyway...? Would be interested in your thoughts.

According to 1 of my PRO campaigns - I have 250+ pages with Duplicate Content - Could my empty 'tag' pages be to blame?
Like I said, my one of my moz reports is showing 250+ pages with duplicate content. should I just delete the tag pages? Is that worth my time? how do I alert SEOmoz that the changes have been made, so that they show up in my next report?

Are 301s advisable for low-traffic URL's?
We are using some branded terms in URLs that we have been recently told we need to stop using. If the pages in question get little traffic, so we're not concerned about losing traffic from broken URLs, should we still do 301 redirects for those pages after they are renamed? In other words, are there other serious considerations besides any loss in traffic from direct clicks on those broken URLs that need to be considered? This comes up because we don't have anyone in-house that can do the redirects, so we need to pay our outside web development company. Is it worth it?
