Gets traffic on both domain.dk and domain.dk/default.asp
-
Hi.
Im runnning a couple of sites. And in my analytics/webmastertool I get both traffic on domain.dk and domain.dk/default.asp which are both essentially the same page.
I'm pretty sure it would be better, if I somehow could make the default.asp "redirect" to "/". I dont wanna loose the linkjuice thou.
Any smart suggestions for an easy fix?
/Kasper

Thanks guys.
I'll go with the cannonical tag first.
And I used screaming frog to find the internal links - Thanks for that Dirk.

Apart from the excellent answers already given above, don't forget to check your internal links - and check that you always link to domain.dk and not to domain.dk/default.asp (Screaming Frog can help you to check that). Inconsistent internal linking is often a reason why google detects the second version in the first place.

Dirk

Obviously it is a good idea as this very Google will have an idea about what page is the preferred version by the website owner plus when two different pages (containing the same content) will become one they will share their link power and duplicate content on the website will be reduced.
Hope to do that?
There are quite a few ways, you could do this but by looking in to your URL example it seems like your website pages are based on ASP so in ASP this is how you can set 301 redirection.
Here is the code you can use:
|
<%
private void Page_Load(object sender, System.EventArgs e)
{
Response.Status = "301 Moved Permanently";
Response.AddHeader("Location","http://www.newlocation.com");
}
%>
|
For more information regarding this, http://www.301-redirect.info/en/301-redirect-with-asp-net.html might be of help!

Hi Kasper,
I think your own suggestion is just right. Put a 301 redirect on the /defailt.asp page and your linkjuice should be fine.
Two extra hints:
1. Make sure your internal links point to your normal homepage (not the /default.asp).
2. If you have any valuable backlinks pointing to /default.asp you can try to change (ask the webmasters) the backlinks to your normal homepage.
Both suggestions prevent your linkjuice from going through a 301 redirect. Although 301 redirects pass linkjuice there is a damping factor (0,85) in the original PageRank system which lowers your linkjuice a bit with every link / 301 redirect it passes through.
Good luck!

Hello.
Just create a file called .htaccess on your root with these two lines of code:
RewriteCond %{THE_REQUEST} ^./default.asp
RewriteRule ^(.)default.asp$ /$1 [R=301,L]Also, use a code editor to look on your code for appearances of "default.asp" to make sure you are not linking to that full address, as that link could be the cause of Google indexing that wrong URL.
If you are not comfortable with .htaccess and redirections, you could also implement a canonical meta tag to indicate your preferred URL for that page.

Google Tag Manager for cross-domain tracking
Anybody experience with setting up Google Tag Manager to contain the Analytics script including cross domain tracking? We have a marketingwebsite .com / .com.br and an application running in a subdomain, but have always had some difficulties in getting the cross domain tracking working. Would be great to be able to exchange some experience with fellow Mozzers.

How do I find out where my "direct traffic" came from?
Last weekend we had a significant rise in traffic to our site. Digging in to Google Analytics, most of it has come from the USA, with some from Canada, Australia and a few other countries. It has all gone to the same article on our website. I have also found that it has mostly come from Safari (in app), on an ipad and iphone. Google Analytics has put this down as Direct traffic. My feeling is that it is not. Could it be from a social media app - perhaps someone with many followers has pinned from our site, or something along these lines. Could it actually be organic search traffic and Google misattributing it as Direct? Bounce rate and time on site is fine, so I don't think it's a bot / spam.

Organic Traffic down after WordPress switch.
I recently switched our company's website over to Wordpress in February. Organic traffic went down.... http://www.screencast.com/t/dJ0Oeyma5Xs Same content, there are a few different page URLs but most of all it is all the same and I've SEO'd it to pieces. Any thoughts? I can't figure this one out.

More Traffic From Lower Rankings?
I have access to analytics for two different sites that rank for the same keyword. Strangely, the site that ranks on page 3 gets three times as much traffic as the site that ranks on page 1 (rankings according to multiple SEO tools as well as my own browser). How is this possible?

Recent large spike in traffic from same location?
Since May 21st our site is showing via Google Analytics a large spike in traffic to our home page. The traffic increase is 4-5 times our average. I was able to track the source to the same town we are headquartered. We have lost 4 spots for our top keyword. We went from 7 to 11 in Google in this time period. I understand it could be related to Penguin. But I also suspect this issue is negatively effecting ranking by increasing bounce rate and decreasing pages per visit and time on site. Before/After May 21st Returning Visitors: 52% / 23% New Visitors: 48% / 77% Pages per Visit: 12.4 / 5.44 Duration of visit Avg: 10.23 / 4.22 I would greatly appreciate any ideas on the cause of this issue. Also any input on the above metrics and sudden lost in a couple spots in SERP. Thanks.

Cross domain tracking setup in Google Analytics
I really need help on this, I can't figure it out. I need to track a few subdomains and and couple of seperate domains in one profile in Google Analytics. So I have: www.maindomain.co.uk sub1.maindomain.co.uk sub2.maindomain.co.uk www.anotherdomain.co.uk So the code I have placed on all of these domains is as following: I have then set up seperate profiles which filter out the data by domain. E.g. for sub1.maindomain.co.uk, I have user the fitler: Custom filter > Include > Filter Field = Hostname > Filter Pattern = sub1.maindomain.co.uk For the www.anotherdomain.co.uk, I have used the same filter. Now this all seems to be tracking visits and unique visitors okay, but I always have a very low pageview count, less than visits and sometimes zero. Could anyone shed any light on what I am doing wrong? Thanks in advance mozzers.

SEO traffic had significantly dropped
I know this question has been asked before, but I'm hoping someone can address my specific issue. We recently did a complete redesign of our site and moved it over to a new server. The site was even "down" for about a week, where we had a static splash page. However since relaunching (it's not been over two weeks) we've seen a significant drop in search engine traffic. We are using Yoast for Wordpress. The site is The Tech Block. Could anyone see if there is something we're doing wrong? Thanks
