Competitive vs. non-competitive keywords

Posting this on behalf of a friends at a breast and ovarian cancer support organization...
We're trying to improve our web site's results in search engines. I've been reading up on SEO and learning that it's wise to optimize for more specialized keywords rather than for highly competitive keywords (e.g., "triple negative breast cancer," instead of "breast cancer"). Practically speaking, how does this work when you're optimizing content?
- Does "triple negative breast cancer" need to appear multiple times in the page's content and is there an optimal place on the page where it should appear?
- Do keyword tags actually work, or should we not even bother spending time on adding them? How about title tags and description metatags?
- Will they help with search results? I know that increasing the number of outside links makes a difference, but will it help if I provide links from one page on our web site to another?
Thanks!

1. Yes it needs to appear, but not several times. It is best if it appears in a title tag near the top of the page
keyword
.
2. Keyword tags only tell your competitors what keywords you are targetting. They have no weight for search engines anymore. Title tags and description tags help with click through rate(CTR). When a user sees a compelling title with a good description in the search results, they click. Titles have some weight on SEO.
3. Internal linking will help, but make sure they make sense to the user and are not just there for the search engines. It's pointless to have a website that only makes sense to a search engine and confuses the people who find it via the search engine.

The keyword should appear in the content but it does not have to be multiple times. First and last paragraph is sufficient.
Dont worry about meta keywords but do use titles and descriptions as these are what users see in the search engines. Dont duplicate these across pages.
Internal linking will improve the structure on your site as well as a sitemap.Check out the seo moz beginners guide as everything should be in here http://www.seomoz.org/beginners-guide-to-seo

WWW vs Non WWW for EXISTING site.
This one has sort of been asked already but I cannot find an answer. When we evaluate a new SEO client, previously with Majestic we would review the root domain vs sub domain (www) for which had the higher Trust Flow and Citation flow, and if there was a major difference, adjust the Google indexed domain to the higher peforming one. Is there a way to do this with Moz, Domain Authority, and Sub Domain authority are always returning the same DA for me. Thanks in advance.

Www to non-www redirect without loop still necessary?
Hi Guys, My question is: Is it still necessary to redirect www. to non www. version of your website or other way around?

I ask because I feel that Google should be able to read these as the same by now. Thank you in advance.

Categories VS Tag Duplicate Content
Hello Moz community, I have a question about categories and tags . Our customer www.elshow.pe just had a redesign of its website. We use the same categories listed before . The only change was that two sub categories were added ( these sub-categories were popular tags before ) .Then now I have 2 URL's covering the same content: The first is the URL of the subcategory : www.elshow.pe/realitys/combate/ The second is the URL that is generated by the tag "combate" that is www.elshow.pe/noticias/combate/ I have the same with the second sub category: "Esto es guerra" www.elshow.pe/realitys/esto-es-guerra/ www.elshow.pe/noticias/esto-es-guerra/ The problem is when I search the keyword "combate" in my country (Perú), the URL that positions is the tag URL in 1st page. But, when I search for "esto es guerra" the URL that positions is the **sub category **in the second page. I also check in OSE both links and sub categories goes better than tags. So what do you guys recommend for this? 301 redirect? canonicals? Any coment is welcome. Thanks a lot for your time. Italo,

Www2 vs www problem
Hi, I have a website that has an old version and a new version. The content is not duplicate on the different versions.

The point is that the old version uses www. and non-www before the domain and the new one uses www2. My questions is: Is that a problem and what should be done? Thank you in advance!0 -
Keyword Suggestions Tool & Different Subdomains
Hey all, Was reading Dan Shure's brilliant post on the Keyword Planner, and decided to plug a few of my own pages into the URL-suggester tool as well. What I got back was nothing short of strange. After plugging in our Features page, (which describes our Social Media Contesting Platform,) and getting back a bunch of suggestions related to Dr Seuss and Interior Design Scholarships, I realized that the Keyword Suggestion tool was being broken by our subdomains. I looked for precedent on my particular issue, but I think I might not be searching properly. Could anyone provide any insight into whether or not this might affect how spiders see the content on Strutta.com, whether or not this is just something that will affect the Keyword Suggestions Tool or actual SERP rankings, and if this content is already present elsewhere on MOZ, a link to said content? Much obliged 🙂

Webmaster Tools vs Screaming from for 404's
Hey guys, I was just wondering which is better to use to find the 404's effecting your site. I have been using webmaster tools and just purchased screaming frog which has given me a totally different list of 404's compared to WMT. Which do I use, or do I use both? Cheers

Meta Title Keywords and Company name
Currently our meta title says "Network Security Audit | Pivot Point Security" which is pretty broad considering how many services we offer. In trying to restructure our keywords, marketing and SEO focus, I came up with a new title. The problem I have is figuring out which keywords to use in the title, and with a company name with 3 words - I am running out of room. The new title idea is "Information Security Assessments - Penetration Testing | Pivot Point Security" So my questions are the following. Do I need to put the company name? Should I choose different keywords? I'm sort of at a stand still trying to figure out the best possible title since meta keywords or description won't really help ranking.
