Rank not improving despite best practises
-
Hi there,
I have a photobooth hire company in and have been working on getting our site onto the top page for keywords relating to our service and location for almost a year now, but am really struggling to see rank improvement despite my best efforts.
After a major penguin update back in mid 2014 I noticed that due to some bad practises from a company that we previously hired, our rank began to plummet. So in the aftermath of that, I found myself having to clean up and disavow a lot of spammy and broken links. This was back towards August last year and despite trying to "clean the slate" and continue to build better backlinks (mostly through reputable directories) I'm still getting little to know rank increases.
Is there a possibility that the site is still being black listed by Google in some way and thus all my best practises for the last 6 months haven't really helped at all?
Thanks

Now that Kinsta.com is in Australia I recommend them over previous hosting companies they are very fast and use a combination of Fastlys dynamic cdn & HHVM if you ask them for help they will get you straightened out right away.

Hello,
You are looking in the wrong direction. There is no Penguin filter on viplane.com.au.
I don't know what you've "clean" from your link profile but you might have shoot yourself in the foot with that session - no headshot though ...
There are so many other issues with the site but yes, links are important but it's not the only thing you should focus on.
Cheers.

You have a 9 MB homepage with 199 request the server that is way too big of a page for anyone on a mobile device and extremely slow for people even on the fastest connections.
You are not blacklisted and you will want to evaluate the amount of links that you have as you normally do not rank immediately with 10 back links from directories with exact match anchor text.
I have put together a list of problems with your site and ways to fix them.
“despite trying to "clean the slate" and continue to build better backlinks (mostly through reputable directories) I'm still getting little to know rank increases.”
Just directories for back links with what Google does not want people creating anchor text that's “exact match” not a good sign to Google.
Yes relevant and high-quality directories that add something to the web may be worth something. But that is where you got all 10 of your back links so it means very little in the eyes of Google.
Would you be kind enough to explain how you went about moving the domain? If you had back links from other places it would show up in less you swap domains less than a week ago.
You have a domain authority of 15 out of 100 that combined with 10 total low-quality directory back links.
What you need to do is a whole lot of work to build this into a site that is flat-out better than everything else in your niche. That includes essentially taking the best site you know of in your industry and topping it.
You do not have not a lot of content plus lack of exceptional content (e.g.X10 content) See https://moz.com/blog/why-good-unique-content-needs-to-die-whiteboard-friday
When changing the domain you should expect a drop in traffic for at least 3 to 4 months after if you did every single thing right with your domain migration.
May I ask you how you went about the migration? I do not see the old domain redirecting anywhere.
These are the reasons you site is not ranking well.
What you can do about it is start by opening a Google Webmaster tools account if your site was blacklisted you would know it. as long as you have a Google Webmaster account if you do not get one below using the links provided.

http://www.bing.com/toolbox/webmaster
If you're talking about Being actually blacklisted I ran a check
https://sitecheck.sucuri.net/results/viplane.com.au/
I found one reason the site is extremely slow when checked out of Australia using pingdom here
http://tools.pingdom.com/fpt/#!/ekOK16/http://viplane.com.au/ Australia
http://tools.pingdom.com/fpt/#!/uAw1A/http://viplane.com.au/ New York
Out of New York you're about 15 seconds it appears that the time I got in Australia is the fastest your site has performed according to its history. cloudflare is a inexpensive /free CDN I found an agency that specializes in WordPress in Australia that has a deal with WP engine based out of Australia I would ask them if you can purchase hosting from them. As well as get them to fix your site if you feel you need help.
You Need to use a plug-in to combined your JavaScript and your site will be faster.
A quality host out of Australia
http://www.anchor.com.au/managed/wordpress-hosting/
http://www.quora.com/Are-there-any-Wordpress-only-hosts-with-data-centre-s-in-Australia
because WP engine offers only a enterprise-level offering in Australia I would ask this company how much they charge to host one site. They look like they can help with the development issues as well.

- https://wordpress.org/plugins/jch-optimize/
for images you need to crop them appropriately then run them through JPEGmini in http://www.jpegmini.com/ addition to a tool like https://kraken.io/
that will take care of the PNG's & GIF's
afterwards keep a plug-in installed I recommend
- https://wordpress.org/plugins/kraken-image-optimizer/
- https://wordpress.org/plugins/shortpixel-image-optimiser/
- https://wordpress.org/plugins/ewww-image-optimizer/
you may prefer something with more or less options I would look at the plug-ins that are updated to WordPress 4.2.2 and do some trial and error here is where you would look
https://wordpress.org/plugins/tags/minify
I hope this helps,
Tom

In short yes, you maybe still blacklisted. So when is the next Penguin update? And you website "unblacklisted"? No-one knows except is should be sometime this year.
Hence it sounds like you need a Penguin re-fresh. You need to wait till the next Penguin update to get the full benefit of all your disavows. If you google "next penguin update" and you will see alot of people in exactly the same position...
A new site would not help, as if you do a permanent re-direct google associates the new URL with the old URL.
I am not sure if much help, but hope I clarified a few queries.

Is there a benefit SEO and ranking-wise in putting a free SEO audit tool on your homepage?
Hi everyone, I work for a digital marketing agency in Australia. Our team noticed some businesses similar to ours use a free SEO Audit tool on their homepages. We are considering having one as well but, but want to know how it would benefit us. Will adding this tool on our home page help us rank better in Google? If yes, can you please tell us how? Thank you.

Rank Locally and Globally (or at least Nationally)
I work with an interior design whom I've persuaded to purchase a virtual street address in the town she wanted to work in years ago. She has a Skokie, IL business address that has been claimed and confirmed across the internet. Now, she is growing and wants her new website to not only be optimized for the more affluent areas of Chicago but she also would like to gain Global notice, (I'd settle for National). My problems: She doesn't want to purchase a street address in Chicago because it is a pain to go get her mail. What do I do about all her directory listings and review sites that have her located in Skokie if I can persuade her to get a Chicago address? Do I leave the Skokie address and add more content targeting keyword phrases with Chicago? What should be my initial focus here? I feel it is a smaller target and less competition to go after Chicago but she wants to start spreading her wings and work all over the world. Help!!

Indexed by Google but only ranking in Bing and Yahoo
I have a website nativeamericanpalmhut.com that has been up and running for months. The sitemap was created and submitted in GWMT and the site was indexed pretty quickly. Here's where I'm lost all of the pages are indexed but only the homepage ranks and only for the exact match domain query "Native American Palm Huts". What's even more confusing is that Google Analytics and HotJar Analytics are both showing hundreds Google organic search traffic coming to the site on multiple pages (not just the homepage). This on top of the fact the that website is ranking well for several different terms in Bing and Yahoo lead me to believe this is a Google search specific problem. I have checked the backlinks to see if maybe there was a penalty on the domain but couldn't find any record of it. I've searched the Moz Q&As, Countless Google forums, etc with no luck. I'm scratching my head at the moment so if anyone has any ideas on what could be causing the problem that would be great.

The best click to call tool
Hi,
Local SEO | | corn2015
Can you please tell me what is the best cost per call tool to use? Is the google mobile click to call feature effective? A client who runs a local business wants to increase the amount of calls their business receives.0 -
Do not understand why a page will not rank- AT ALL!
I have a business that provides on-site services out of a central location. For instance in Denver, we have a warehouse location where we can perform repairs but the majority of business is performed within a 50 mile radius of the city center- on-site, a homes, businesses, etc. Our Google local page is set up to reflect this (mobile service as well as physical location). In order to capture business organically within this 50 mile veil, we have set up city specific service pages on our site to reflect the more than 30 municipalities that fit within the 50 mile veil. This strategy seems to work pretty well in Colorado but in Minnesota we are not having the same outcome. The following city page is created specifically for the term "iPhone repair Minneapolis" and has been live for over a year. It is not even in the top 50. Is this a regional issue or a specific page issue? Our domain actually ranks 15th for this term. http://www.shatterbuggy.com/service-areas/minneapolis/iphone-repair/ Thoughts?

Transfer Local SEO rankings to another domain
The question is specifically about local rankings, not the organic ones. My client recently acquired another Law firm. Acquired firm's website is ranking well in Google local and has a decent SEO authority. Its Google mybusiness page is also established and has a lot of positive reviews. Client's main website is comparatively new and doesn't currently rank well in Google local. The Google mybusiness page is sort of incomplete and doesn't have any review. Both businesses are listed in local directories (client's main business is listed in lot less directories and has fewer citations). The client wants to merge the newly acquired website with his main website, without losing Google local rankings the acquired website has. Or in other words, transfer newly acquired website's local rankings to his main site. Client wants to transfer the website to his main website in all cases while minimizing the damage. I'd transfer acquired website's content to main website, properly map the pages and place 301 redirects. Regarding Google my business pages, what would you suggest? I can either update main business NAP and Website address in Acquired business's mybusiness page, or transfer acquired business's mybusiness ratings to main mybusiness page via this form: https://support.google.com/business/contact/business_move_reviews I've also heard that Google support can merge two business page, however not sure about that. I'd also need to update the business listings and citations. Could you please suggest the best way of doing this? And have you practically tested it?

Does this tactic fall into the Local SEO best practice?
Hi Mozzers, I have a client who serves the entire San Francisco bay area but has only one physical location. He asked me if he should get different addresses by renting out offices in different cities so he could use that for a better localization of his business. Thanks for letting me know!
