URL Structure
-
Hi,
Hope you are all well.
On our website we have a 'blog' and a 'news' section.
The blog is located on "/blog" - but when you click on a post the url structure changes to /name-of-article and the blog subdomain isn't included.
Would it be better to have "blog/name-of-article as this would then make the blog perform better in search results?
Also, if our news page is under /news - but when you click on an article it changes to /news-article/name-of-article
Wouldn't it be better to have /news/name-of-article
Thanks a lot!!

...as this would then make the blog perform better in search results
No, this wont make the article rank better, but it does make sense from a usability point of view because you have both a news and blog sections.
Are you running Wordpress? Do you have the Yoast SEO plugin?
Key to being ranked well is how good the article is, backlinks and some debate over how much impact social signals are having.

Hi there
For crawlers to understand the hierarchy of your website and what information falls where, I recommend using:
/blog/name-of-post
/news/name-of-articleThat way your URL structure is helping search engines understand the architecture of your website.
Hope this helps a bit! Good luck!

Hi guys, In Google's webmaster tool it says that the URL has been indexed but not submitted to the sitemap. Is it necessary that the URL be submitted to the sitemap if it has already been indexed? Appreciate your help with this. Mark

How does this effective SEO? Domain One (primary - getting redesign and rebuilt) - not many backlinks

Domain Two (will redirect to Domain One) - has quality backlinks
Domain Three (will redirect to Domain One) - has quality backlinks When the new website is launched on Domain One I will contact the backlink providers and request they update their URL - i assume that would be the best.0 -
URL Question: Is there any value for ecomm sites in having a reverse "breadcrumb" in the URL?
Wondering if there is any value for e-comm sites to feature a reverse breadcrumb like structure in the URL? For example: Example: https://www.grainger.com/category/anchor-bolts/anchors/fasteners/ecatalog/N-8j5?ssf=3&ssf=3 where we have a reverse categorization happening? with /level2-sub-cat/level1-sub-cat/category in the reverse order as to the actual location on the site. Category: Fasteners

Should we introduce subfolders into the URLs on a new site?
A site we are working on currently gives no indication of the subfolders in the URL. Eg. the site uses: www.examplesite.com/brand-name Rather than: www.examplesite.com/popular-products/brand-name There are breadcrumbs on site to show the user what part of the site they are in and how they navigated there. We are building a new site and have to decide what route to take: Since the site is already performing relatively well in the SERPs and the URLs are nice and short this way, is it a good idea to keep them like this or is it better for usability to include the subfolders? This post suggests that we would be best off to keep the URLs as they are - particularly since less would be changed http://www.seomoz.org/blog/should-i-change-my-urls-for-seo Thanks in advance for your opinions!
