Thousands of links coming from an iframe
-
We have an iframed calculator on one website (www.renewablesguide.co.uk) which has a text link to another of our websites (www.solarguide.co.uk) which is where the calculator originates. We allow other sites to embed the calculator which gives us the benefit of a followed link back to our site.
However in the case of renewablesguide (which we own) we've added a tab to the calculator on every page which GWT shows up as 24 000 links from this site hitting the Solar Guide homepage.
As the link is held within an iframe would this amount of links be seen as spammy?

There are likely enough signals to consider the link similar to an internal link which has similar numbers, meaning: even though they're technically on separate domains, your ownership and relationship of both domains make links between the two more like internal than external links. So doing nothing is definitely an option, but doing something that enhances user experience should be the guiding force if you do change. Cheers!

Thanks for the response. I think a no-follow from the renewablesguide page link to the calculator is probably the best course of action. Oddly it has been like this for years and never been highlighted as an issue nor penalized so I'm half tempted to do nothing.

On your own site you might consider removing the text based link or being more specific and linking to the calculator page on: www.solarguide.co.uk. I'd also do an analysis of visits from www.renewablesguide.co.uk to www.solarguide.co.uk via the calculator text link in order to see how users behave when following that link. Is there a higher bounce rate than average? Are they viewing many pages on the solar site? Few? And so on. You'll get a decent idea though of the user experience from those specific visitors and whether or not the link is worth keeping or in need of better UX optimization in order to really benefit your users. Cheers!

Hi there
For my vote, I would "nofollow" this link. The reason being, that's a ton of links from the same site for the same thing. Don't be discouraged as these links are still extremely valuable.
It's either that, or I would create a designated page for the calculator to live on instead of iframing it on multiple pages. That way, you can have one link to your website from one page on your other site, that other product pages are linking to.
Let me know if I am understanding correctly - hope this helps - good luck!

Bing search results - Site links
My site links in Bing search results are pulling through the footer text instead of the meta description (see image). Is there any way of controlling this? 2L2VusT

Updating inbound links vs. 301 redirecting the page they link to
Hi everyone, I'm preparing myself for a website redesign and finding conflicting information about inbound links and 301 redirects. If I have a URL (we'll say website.com/website) that is linked to by outside sources, should I get those outside sources to update their links when I change the URL to website.com/webpage? Or is it just as effective from a link juice perspective to simply 301 redirect the old page to the new page? Are there any other implications to this choice that I may want to consider? Thanks!

Should I consider webmaster tools links and linked pages ratio to remove unnatural links?
I don't know this is a suitable place for post this question. Anyway I have done it. According to the Google webmaster tools, Links to your site page. My blog has considerable amount of links, from linked pages (from certain domain names). For an instance please refer following screenshot. When I am removing unnatural links, should I consider these, links from linked pages ratio? Almost all of these sites are social bookmarking sites. When I publish a new bookmark on those sites, they automatically add a homepage link. As a result of that, I got a huge number of home page links from linked pages. What is your recommendation? Thanks! webmaster.png web_master_tools.png

Solutions for too many on-page links?
We have just begun using SEO Moz a few months ago and have been busy cleaning up some of our warnings and errors. One of the errors that has been an issue is ... too many on-page links. I am trying to correct this issue and I am wondering how seo moz counts these links. For instance... we have links to many of our product categories in a drop down from our main menu, those same links are listed in our footer. Does this get counted as two or only one link. If two, should we make one of the link no follow or how would you best suggest correcting this. Our website is www.unikeyhealth.com Since the menu and the footer appear on virtually every page on our site correcting this issue will quickly sort out this problem. Thanks for any advice.

External Linking & Your sites Link juice
Hey guys, quick question. Does a page lose link juice when it gives link juice? If I link to an outside site, do I lose that same amount of link juice or is it just applied to there site and not removed from mine? I understand that linking to a competitor can in turn help him and hurt me (if he then is seen as more relevant than me to google) but does it have a direct relation to hurting/removing my page link juice? Hope this all makes sense. Thanks
