Google Indexing of Site Map
-
We recently launched a new site - on June 4th we submitted our site map to google and almost instantly had all 25,000 URL's crawled (yay!).
On June 18th, we made some updates to the title & description tags for the majority of pages on our site and added new content to our home page so we submitted a new sitemap.
So far the results have been underwhelming and google has indexed a very low number of the updated pages. As a result, only a handful of the new titles and descriptions are showing up on the SERP pages.
Any ideas as to why this might be? What are the tricks to having google re-index all of the URLs in a sitemap?

No problem, its actually really easy:
https://www.google.com/webmasters/tools/googlebot-fetch
Once you have selected your account, add the URL and then submit to index. I would do the homepage first and for that page, use the "Crawl this URL and its direct links" option. Then for the subpages do the "Crawl only this URL" option. It can also help to do the "Crawl this URL and its direct links" for any of your top level menu items to help speed things up.
"For example, i just checked a page and saw that some images weren't being indexed." Does your robots file allow specific access to those pages? If not, here is how you can set it to do so. This will also allow Google's partners to access your images. Add this to the bottom of your robots file:
User-agent: Googlebot-Image
Allow: /images/
User-agent: Adsbot-Google
Allow: /
User-agent: Googlebot-Mobile
Allow: /
User-agent: Mediapartners-Google*
Allow: /

Thank you!! I'll take a look through the google resource. Also the site:domain search reviled 35,000 results.
The results are there, just not reindexed.

David,
Thanks for your response. This is exactly what we've seen with the initial spike in ranking and now with things settling down. I'll make sure the team has the crawl requests to daily (which I think it is).
For fetch as google - what's the best way that you've used this? For example, i just checked a page and saw that some images weren't being indexed. If I correct the issue, can I just use "Submit to Index"?
Thanks!!!!

In the 1000's of sites we have submitted, all show an initial spike in ranking and indexing before things settle down for the long haul. It seems like Google does a "best guess" scenario, before they take the time to fully crawl and analyze all of the URL's and rank them accordingly. As always, resubmit the pages through all webmaster tools (Bing too!) so that they are always aware of the most recent updates. If you are planning on updating the pages frequently, I would edit your crawl request to daily in your sitemap. They probably won't do it anyway, but you can try
Use the fetch as Google religiously when you update. It is your friend

Hi there
Did you read through Google's indexing resources?
I would also try doing a quick "site:yourdomain.com" and see how many pages Google pulls up - that's a more accurate representation of what's indexed from your site. This is reflected in the resource above:
"Sometimes the data we show in Index Status is not fully reflected in Google Search results." I suggest reading through the resource and also performing that search. Google indexing your sitemap is a waiting game, you're on the watch, just be patient!
Hope this helps! Good luck!

Meta Titles and Meta Descriptions are not Indexing in Google
Hello Every one, I have a Wordpress website in which i installed All in SEO plugin and wrote meta titles and descriptions for each and every page and posts and submitted website to index. But after Google crawl the Meta Titles and Descriptions shown by Google are something different that are not found in Content. Even i verified the Cached version of the website and gone through Source code that crawled at that moment. the meta title which i have written is present there. Apart from this, the same URL's are displaying perfect meta titles and descriptions which i wrote in Yahoo and Bing Search Engines. Can anyone explain me how to resolve this issue. Website URL: thenewyou (dot) in Regards,

Is there a way to get Google to index more of your pages for SEO ranking?
We have a 100 page website, but Google is only indexing a handful of pages for organic rankings. Is there a way to submit to have more pages considered? I have optimized meta data and get good Moz "on-page graders" or the pages & terms that I am trying to connect....but Google doesn't seem to pick them up for ranking. Any insight would be appreciated!

Redirecting HTTP to HTTPS - How long does it take Google to re-index the site?
hello Moz We know that this year, Moz changed its domain to moz.com from www.seomoz.org
Technical SEO | | joony
however, when you type "site:seomoz.org" you still can find old urls indexed on Google (on page 7 and above) We also changed our site from http://www.example.com to https://www.example.com
And Google is indexing both sites even though we did proper 301 redirection via htaccess. How long would it take Google to refresh the index? We just don't worry about it? Say we redirected our entire site. What is going to happen to those websites that copied and pasted our content? We have already DMCAed their webpages, but making our site https would mean that their website is now more original than our site? Thus, Google assumes that we have copied their site? (Google is very slow on responding to our DMCA complaint) Thank you in advance for your reply.0 -
Do Com Junct links affect your site with Google and Penguin
We received the dreaded letter from google in reference to "unnatural or artificial links" Our site has affiliate programs through Commission Junction and Link Share and between the two programs we have over 8000 affiliates or advertisers. Our site has been very successful, but our organic search traffic is down as our rankings in the search engines have dropped. My question is do the affiliate links have an effect on our site with Panda or Penguin?

CDN Being Crawled and Indexed by Google
I'm doing a SEO site audit, and I've discovered that the site uses a Content Delivery Network (CDN) that's being crawled and indexed by Google. There are two sub-domains from the CDN that are being crawled and indexed. A small number of organic search visitors have come through these two sub domains. So the CDN based content is out-ranking the root domain, in a small number of cases. It's a huge duplicate content issue (tens of thousands of URLs being crawled) - what's the best way to prevent the crawling and indexing of a CDN like this? Exclude via robots.txt? Additionally, the use of relative canonical tags (instead of absolute) appear to be contributing to this problem as well. As I understand it, these canonical tags are telling the SEs that each sub domain is the "home" of the content/URL. Thanks! Scott
