Youtube video or not
-
We have a website full of introduction video's that are viewable in youtube on the website. Is that good for my SEO rankings? Or should i consider placing my video direct on the website without using youtube?
Thanks!

I'm also looking to improve upon branding for my site barcodefactory using videos to do some branding...I'm very interested in this topic.
We have a Youtube channel for the same purposes of using the traffic to generate some branding attention...just can't beat Youtube's audience over trying to go this alone via your own domain.

Rebecca is right that YouTube is a bad traffic driver, but is is pretty solid for discovery of evergreen videos. I'm not quite sure what you mean by "introduction" videos, but if the are product intros or how-tos, then YouTube is great for that.
Plus, hosting videos on your own is going to strangle the load time of your site which will crush your SEO.

Thanks! First i'm going to optimize my channel for our brand.

Are you wanting these videos to drive traffic to your site? If so, then YouTube is not going to be the answer as it's pretty terrible as a traffic driver. I would host on site if at all possible. Maybe throw them up on YouTube because why not, but more for brand awareness than for SEO.

Hi there
What I would do is put your videos on YouTube and optimize them there. I would put videos here due to the searching capabilities, YouTube's daily traffic, and also being able to optimize your channel to your brand.
I would look video hosting options for your website, as well. Here is a great list from GoAnimate.
I personally like Wistia for the following reasons:
- Customization
- Branding
- Calls to action
- Awesome heatmapping & engagement graphs
- Sitemap generation
- Integration with other tools
- Rand also uses it for Whiteboard Friday
Hope this helps! Good luck!

How to get Youtube videos to show up with rich snippets.
Most of our SERPS are ranking, but video is not. We use Youtube for hosting and I am wondering if Google/Youtube somehow block video rich snippets from ranking when hosted through Youtube? Is there a better hosting service or should we host the video ourselves in order to get these videos to show up? Does

Suspended YouTube account causing havoc in ranking and traffic
Hi SEOmoz community This is my first question in the forum and I'd prefer it was more on the constructive side rather than introducing an issue on my website. I hope someone can still shed a light on the issue. Just over a week ago, YouTube has suspended my account for what I would call dubious reasons. Suspending my account meant lots of dead videos on my site and potentially other people's sites, who embedded my videos. I have only recently managed to take down all references to my blocked YouTube account (off my site). Now here it comes, literally since that week my traffic numbers have dropped below half of what it used to be and less. I hardly have any more organic search entries and my keywords have plummeted (in some cases 20 - 30 positions). Keywords, that ranked well are currently not searched via my site at all. I am not 100% what is going on and doing my reading on the side, but I am starting to get a little paranoid over a potential Google penalty that may have been issued to my site. Maybe someone has experienced similar issues or simply knows the answer. Someone suggested that due to the 'Trust' that YouTube has passed on to my site is now gone, it caused this massive drop. However, it still makes me think, is an element such as various YouTube videos on your site such a big thing that makes and breaks a site?? I appreciate your input on the issue. Many thanks everybody!!

Video question
If another company hosts our videos, but they are only found embedded on our site, do we get all of the SEO benefits from the video, or would we have to host it for that to happen?

Video Sitemap Help
MOZ Helpers, Currently our clients videos are hosted on Viemo and that will not change as our client likes the creative/artist vibe and community via Viemo. That being said we need to create a video sitemap. BTW, Our site uses wordpress. When someone in house uploads a video in the future we want them to be able to enter the video title, description, and tags on the video and when they hit "update" the video and information will get added to our video site map. Wistia has this option here http://wistia.com/doc/video-seo , but like I mentioned above our client has all videos via Viemo. I found a Google XML wordpress plugin, but that said it only works for Youtube video's. The Jr. developer is not confident in creating one himself from the Google webmaster instructions and asked me to search for another solution. Check out the attached pic, that is what I am looking for. Is their a plugin or another option where we can use for easy sitemap updating and management for our Viemo videos? Thanks in advance! Thumbnail-based navigation like YouTube Sidebar - they don't use ALT tag
Notice on the YouTube sidebar, each video has a thumbnail and a title. But, for the ALT tag, YouTube simply uses the word "thumbnail". In the past, i was using a keyword phrase for my thumbnail ALT tag. I thought I was being clever. But is this superflous? We note that the A tag on the YouTube items, encompasses the SPAN that is the video + title. Does Google associate the text of the title as valid "anchor text" despite the existance of other info in that span --- e.g. like View Count and the User Name of the video creator? Thanks!
