Thin Content to Quality Content
-
How should i modify content from thin to high quality content. Somehow i realized that my pages where targetted keywords didn't had the keyword density lost a massive ranking after the last update whereas all pages which had the keyword density are ranking good. But my concern is all pages which are ranking good had all the keyword in a single statement like. Get ABC pens, ABC pencils, ABC colors, etc. at the end of a 300 word content describing ABC. Whereas the pages which dropped the rankings had a single keyword repeated just twice in a 500 word article. Can this be the reason for a massive drop. Should i add the single statement like the one which is there on pages ranking good? Is it good to add just a single line once the page is indexed or do i need to get a fresh content once again along with a sentence of keyword i mentioned above?

In my opinion, quality content has nothing to do with keyword density in it. If the content is quality, users will stick on the page and you will get more time on site by users and shares on social media accordingly.
As far as the rankings are concern, I know it’s important but keyword density is not the only thing that Google took in to consideration when ranking a website. My advice is to do the deeper analysis of the website and see why the rankings have dropped?
- Is it because the content that dropped its ranking were really bad?
- Is your bounce rate high on those pages?
- How many shares and link you get on pages that are ranking well as compare to the pages that dropped recently
- How powerful is your internal linking
Also, create few more content and see how they are acting after the update, and make a decision based on the data you have collected.
My advice is to keep your users as your first priority because if they like it, they will share it and the conversion rate (important at the end of the day) will improve.
Hope this helps!

Just a bit correction over here. By thin content i meant like in terms of keywords density. All my content are written by writers only. But I see my ranking better for keywords having that single sentence on pages whereas those pages which didn't had that single sentence got a massive drop after an update. Do you think it will matter. Or should I freshen up the page with some additional content adding the single sentence with keywords as other good performing pages have on 2-3 such pages just to check what happens? Will this be a good move?
The reason is, there is a massive drop only on those pages (from Page 3 to Page 10-13) whereas there is just a minor drop or improvement on those pages having that single sentence.

Just make it high quality. How you do it is not nearly as important as the fact that it is converted into high quality.

I am willing to bet big money that keyword density has nothing to do with your problem. You said in your first sentence that your content is thin. That is probably your problem. Just replace it with quality. Everywhere. As soon as you start thinking that "I need this many words" or I need to "say something this many times" or repeat this or that phrase, that is when you start making rubbish. It makes your content look like it was produced by a machine and not by a creative human.

Blog with all copied content, should it be rewritten?
Hi, I am auditing a blog where their goal is to get approved to on ad networks but the whole blog has copied content from different sources, so no ad network is approving them. Surprisingly (at least to me), is that the blog ranks really well for a few keywords (#1's and rich snippets ), has a few hundred of natural backlinks, DA is high, has never been penalized (they have always used canonical tags to the original content), traffic is a few thousand sessions a month with mostly 85% organic search, etc. overall Google likes it enough to show them high on search. So now the owner wants to monetize it. I suggested that the best approach was to rewrite their most visited articles and deleted the rest with 301 redirects to the posts that stay. But I actually haven't worked on a similar project before and can't find precise information online so I'm looking to know if anyone has a similar experience to this. A few of my questions are: If they rewrite most of the pages and delete the rest so there is no repeated/copied content, would ad networks (eg. adsense) approve them? Assuming the new articles are at least as good quality as the current ones but with original content, is there a risk on losing DA? since pretty much it will look like a new site once they are done They have thousands of articles but only about 200 hundred get most visits, which would be the ones getting rewritten, so it should be fine to redirect the deleted ones to the remaining? Thanks for any suggestions and/or tips on this 🙂

Content or Backlinks
HI I have resource issues and need to prioritise my time, I know both content & backlinks are important for SEO, but where will it be most beneficial to spend my time? We are a generalist site, so this also makes things tougher. I have some core areas to work on, but want to be the most effective in the time I spend on them. Thanks!

Can a website be punished by panda if content scrapers have duplicated content?
I've noticed recently that a number of content scrapers are linking to one of our websites and have the duplicate content on their web pages. Can content scrapers affect the original website's ranking? I'm concerned that having duplicated content, even if hosted by scrapers, could be a bad signal to Google. What are the best ways to prevent this happening? I'd really appreciate any help as I can't find the answer online!

How does google recognize original content?
Well, we wrote our own product descriptions for 99% of the products we have. They are all descriptive, has at least 4 bullet points to show best features of the product without reading the all description. So instead using a manufacturer description, we spent $$$$ and worked with a copywriter and still doing the same thing whenever we add a new product to the website. However since we are using a product datafeed and send it to amazon and google, they use our product descriptions too. I always wait couple of days until google crawl our product pages before i send recently added products to amazon or google. I believe if google crawls our product page first, we will be the owner of the content? Am i right? If not i believe amazon is taking advantage of my original content. I am asking it because we are a relatively new ecommerce store (online since feb 1st) while we didn't have a lot of organic traffic in the past, i see that our organic traffic dropped like 50% in April, seems like it was effected latest google update. Since we never bought a link or did black hat link building. Actually we didn't do any link building activity until last month. So google thought that we have a shallow or duplicated content and dropped our rankings? I see that our organic traffic is improving very very slowly since then but basically it is like between 5%-10% of our current daily traffic. What do you guys think? You think all our original content effort is going to trash?

Duplicate content in Webmaster tools, is this bad?
We launched a new site, and we did a 301 redirect to every page. I have over 5k duplicate meta tags and title tags. It shows the old page and the new page as having the same title tag and meta description. This isn't true, we changed the titles and meta description, but it still shows up like that. What would cause that?

Duplicate Content in News Section
Our clients site is in the hunting niche. According to webmaster tools there are over 32,000 indexed pages. In the new section that are 300-400 news posts where over the course of a about 5 years they manually copied relevant Press Releases from different state natural resources websites (ex. http://gfp.sd.gov/news/default.aspx). This content is relevant to the site visitors but it is not unique. We have since begun posting unique new posts but I am wondering if anything should be done with these old news posts that aren't unique? Should I use the rel="canonical tag or noindex tag for each of these pages? Or do you have another suggestion?

Having Content be the First thing the bots see
If you have all of your homepage content in a tab set at the bottom of the page, but really would want that to be the first thing Google reads when it crawls your site, is there something you can implement where Google reads your content first before it reads the rest of your site? Does this cause any violations or are there any red flags that get raised from doing this? The goal here would just be to get Google to read the content first, not hide any content
