SEO Onpage (where I need to put the H1/2/3)?
-
Hi everybody,
I'm working on my new website, and I have a few questions about the Headers (<h 1="" 2="" 3="">)
please see the attached image, I create a mock-up for you, please tell me which H I have to put on the title.
(** most of the articles will be without sub-titles so...it will be dynamic, but try to take a look on the "sidebar" and "menu link".</h> -
In general, H-tags are intended for headlines. That's why they've typically been seen as (at this point somewhat weak) ranking signals—the headline of a page is a decent indication of what the page is about, which helps the search engines determine what to serve that page in response to particular searches.
I honestly can't see a reason to use H-tags is a widget title like "Most Viewed." It does nothing to communicate what the page is about, and if you're also using an H-tag for the page headline, the second one may "confuse" crawlers. There are other ways to format those widget titles.
I really like Wesley Smits's analogy from this Q&A thread:
What i would like to add to his answer is that you should look at H1, H2, H3, H4, H5 and H6 tags as if the webpage is a book. In a book the chapter-title is a H1 tag. All the subchapters have an H2 tag. If these subchapters have another sub-area then this would be marked up with an H3 tag and so on.
Having a clear hierarchy in your heading tags will make it more user friendly. Search engines might also understand better which parts of the content are connected to each other and which are separate because of this.
I really can't speak to why Wordpress themes would be using H-tags in widget/sidebar titles. It's certainly not what I'd recommend.

so only the titles of the text?
sidebar with list of articles for example "Most Viewed" no need H?? I see H in every wordpress theme on "sidebar widgets"..I'm really confused...

Hi John!
Honestly, it's hard to say because it will depend on the content on the page. H1 is intended to be the main headline of the page. In your case, I suppose H1 would be the title of the item, with H2 for the subtitle. The menus/sidebar may not actually need H-tags, especially if they remain constant on the whole site.
Does that make a little more sense?

Hiding H1
I'm working on a site that has hidden H1 content. So for example: Video/Film Production with the page using the following codeVideo/Film Productionas the title. there are no other H1 tags on the page. I have taken this up with their dev and they have suggested this has to be implemented this way due to some issues with displaying in iOS. They are digging their heels in and suggesting it stays as is. How much of a risk would you say this is? Well i'm actually looking for a bit of a back-up here.

Seo for company services page?
I am creating a site for a Dentist with 30 pages of services in a mega menu. Other than the actual pages should there be a central page with all the services on it hyper linking to each one? Thanks Scott

Is my megamenu negatively impacting my SEO?
Hello everyone, I have a megamenu with 87 links in total. We offer a ton of products, so when we decided to have this developed, it seemed like a no-brainer because a straight drop-down menu was really hard to digest. But I have been wondering if it is creating too many links on every single page and/or muddling the signals to the search engines. If anyone could take a look and give me their insight, I would really appreciate it. Thanks, www.cleanedison.com

How to rank well on 2 keywords - 2 separate pages or 1 combined page
Hi, I have a website about allergy. We ar developing new content, and through keyword research I have discovered that "dog allergy" and "cat allergy" are both very common searches. However, the cause, and symtoms are very alike for these 2 types of allergy so it would make sense to combine the two allergies on one page. So my question is: What do I choose to increase my chances to ranke the best I can for both "cat allergy", and "dog allergy"? Should I develop 2 separate pages for cat & dog allergy or should I do a combined page? (We would of course review the texts so no duplicate content/text would be used if we chose to have 2 pages) I would be so greatful for your advice!! Kind regards, Jeanette

Undoing Video SEO
Ok, so here's a good one for you. I was ranking well (2-3rd) position when I got it into my head that I should implement some video SEO to get the video to appear next to my ranking. Well I did that with the help of Wistia. Only problem is my 2-3 ranking become 4-5, and I also became convinced that the page seemed less desirable as video content when I saw it in the rankings. So... I want to undo what I did. I removed the video sitemap and the SEO video markup from wistia, but it's been weeks and Google has still got me listed as video content. Any thoughts on how to accelerate the undoing of this damage?

Are lots of wordpress tags hurting my SEO?
When I started my blog 4 years ago and didn't know what I was doing, I set it up to be organized using tags (no categories). I have around 20 tags and around 250 articles. Each blog article typically has 2-4 tags associated with it. There is a lot of topic overlap and putting each post in only one category wouldn't work. I have been no indexing, do follow my tag pages because they are just a list of post titles, but I'm wondering if the whole situation is hurting my SEO. On my homepage I have a sidebar menu/list of all the tags so I have link juice going to no indexed (but dofollow) pages. Reducing the number of tags would be bad for user experience because people who were looking for info on a specific topic wouldn't be as easily able to find what they want. Ideas?
