Is there an SEO advantage to blog content being a child of /blog/ rather than the homepage?
-
I'm working on a website where all the blog content is listed as separate pages from the homepage, eg:
www.domain.com/first-blog-post
www.domain.com/second-blog-postHowever, it would make my life easier if all blog content was listed under /blog/ so that I could analyse it better in Google Analytics. Eg I'd like it to be:
www.domain.com/blog/first-blog-post
www.domain.com/blog/second-blog-postThe developer is not keen because it would create extra work for him, and he's also said it's a bad idea from an SEO point of view. But is this the case? Presumably with 301s in place it wouldn't make a difference?
Thanks for your help!

While I agree with the concept of Danny's answer (the farther content is from the root the lower the possibility of ranking) - there is no relationship between the depth of an article & the structure of the url.
To put it extreme - a url like mydomain.com/folder/subfolder/subsubfolder/page could be at 1 click from the homepage & a url like mydomain.com/page could be at 5 clicks from the homepage.
I would migrate to the structure you propose:domain.com/blog/post.htm, mainly because it's easier for reporting purposes. You can find an interesting article from Bruce Clay here on why it's good to have a well structured url: http://www.bruceclay.com/blog/structured-urls/

A small amount of Page Rank will be lost for each extra level the page is from the root domain.
So, there may be a small advantage in using the format www.domain.com/first-blog-post as opposed to www.domain.com/blog/first-blog-post
The effect is likely to be more noticeable if the home page of the site is the page with most link authority

Homepage indexation issue
Hello all, I've been scratching my head about this one for a while now... Let me explain the situation. I'm working on a multi-lingual website. Visitors are redirected (301) when they visit the homepage to the correct domain.com/en/default.html, domain.com/nl/default.html, domain.com/fr/default.html or domain.com/de/default.html based on browser language. I have doubts about the impact on the ability for Google to index the website because of that, but that's a problem for another day. The problem I'm having right now, is that domain.com/nl/default.html, domain.com/de/default.html and domain.com/fr/default.html are all indexed. When I search for the URL in Google I get the correct page on number one so I'm pretty sure those are indexed correctly. When I search for domain/en/default.html though, the homepage appears without /en/default.html extension. Does this mean Google assumes the domain.com page is the same as domain.com/en/default.html even though the redirect that's in place? Would be great if someone could shed some light on this. Thanks in advance!

Domain Forwarding / Multiple Domain Names / or Rebuild Blogs on them
I am considering forwarding 3 very aged and valuable domain names to my main site. There were once over 100 blog posts on each blog and each one has a page authority of 45 and domain authority of 37. My question is should i put up three blogs on the domains and link them to my site or should i just forward the domains to my main site? Which will provide me with more value. I have the capability to have some one blog on them every day. However, i do not have access to any of the old blog posts. I guess i could scrape it of archive.org. Any advice would be appreciated. Home Page .index.htm and .com Duplicate Page Content/Title
I have been whittling away at the duplicate content on my clients' sites, thanks to SEOmoz's pro report, and have been getting push back from the account manager at register.com (the site was built here and the owner doesn't want to move it). He says these are the exact same page and he can't access one to redirect to the other. Any suggestions? The SEOmoz report says there is duplicate content on both these urls: Durango Mountain Biking | Durango Mountain Resort - Cascade Village http://www.cascadevillagehotel.com/index.htm Durango Mountain Biking | Durango Mountain Resort - Cascade Village http://www.cascadevillagehotel.com/ Your help is greatly appreciated! DISQUS COMMENTS backlinks-good for seo? YES/NO?
DISQUS COMMENTS backlinks-good for seo? YES/NO? I have just started commenting on "powered by disquus" websites in the Disqus comments box and left a link to my website in the name field! Having googled whether Disqus comments backlinks are any good for seo purposes i have discovered that there is a 50/50 view on the subject with some people saying they are a "goldmine" for getting high PR backlinks and others saying they are a waste of time because googlebot cannot read Java. My own experience of commenting on Disqus powered websites is that wordpress blogs powered by disqus comments ARE INDEXED by GOOGLE and the "BACKLINK IS IN THE SOURCE OF THE PAGE" When i comment on normal websites using the Disqus comment system i have found that my Disqus comments ARE NOT indexed by Google and there IS NO BACKLINK in the page source! Has anybody got any views on whether Disqus comments backlinks are any good?

Level 1 Child Redirect to Level 3 (SEO)
Hi Guys, I'd like to get an SEO point of view on Redirecting Level 1 Pages (ie: main pages) to Level 3. I'm not a web-developer but lately I'm noticing a lot of main nav bar tabs redirected to child pages. When I go to click on what I assume is my main Motorcycle Level One Page the url looks something like this. example.com/motorcycles/bandit/cb600-hornet Essentially there is no content in the first 2 levels, how will this affect my SEO efforts? Also, is there any point adding in title and description tags for these 2 levels seems as there is no content? SEO advise would be appreciated, thank you.

Does anyone see benefit in .com/en vs .com/uk for a UK site?
The client is already on /en and in my opinion there is not much to be gained by switching to /uk

hi, Which is the best , seo speaking, about the homepage display with a CMS (joomla here). 1/ To display articles as "blog" and thus articles are always recent but not the same (chronological).. 2/ To display always a same article (just 1) but updated sometimes to times ? 3/ Both of them are good ?
