Funnel Problem in Google Analytics - Please help
-
Hello,
I did set up a several funnel steps in my analytics account to get the funnel visualization report. But it's look fishy, something's clearly wrong that it shows only 10 visitors at the first step but actually more than 5k visitors has visited first goal page and followed through the another all steps. Everyday we are receiving 5k to 10k goal conversions but it not showing in the entire funnel steps through first step to last step.
Please see the attached screenshot URL for funnel setup (Admin) and funnel visualization report comparing last two months traffic. Total goal conversions received 3,605 in last two months but in funnel chart (report) it showing only 2% conversions in last step. Anybody can tell me what is the problem with that or analytics not tracking properly?si65Y

Yes! Craig, You're right! In the funnel, there's no need for last step and I've unchecked 'required' check box. Also, I've fixed to 'regular expressions' matches in the 'Equals to' option as all search URLs generate dynamically. I've tested few days ago. Now my funnel report works well, showing all flow in the each step. Thanks guys!

Hi Marty,
To begin with, it's worth noting that the funnel report in GA isn't particularly useful. You're not the only one that finds it confusing. The first thing I'd fix is the funnel steps; there is a mistake in the funnel, remove step 5 as it isn't needed. You already have that page as the final destination in the field marked goal details. Try that nad see how it goes.
It's worth understanding what the "requited step" actually means. It doesn't mean this is a strict funnel, it simply means that people that enter at any other stage of the funnel won't be counted. I recommend this great post on Lunametrics blog: http://www.lunametrics.com/blog/2008/06/25/funnel-problems-google-analytics/
From that post:
The “Required First Step” check box on the goal setup causes a lot of confusion. First of all, remember that this affects only the Funnel Visualization report. If you check off this box, here’s what happens: The Funnel Visualization report includes only conversions that passed through the required step. That’s it. Your other reports still include any visit that views the goal page, but the Funnel Visualization report only calls it a conversion if it visits the required funnel page.
The required step can be a way to separately measure multiple goals that have the same ultimate goal page, but start at different places. Simply set up more than one goal with a different required step for each one. (Again, remember that the differences will only be apparent in the Funnel Visualization report.)
Let me know how it goes.

Hi Alick300, thanks for your reply.
We don't want to setup goal/funnel for blog. We want to see the how many users have booked the flights through all steps. That's our main goal. We've mentioned each step in funnel as you can see the attached screenshot. But nothing work out. In goal we've received more than 3k conversions but in funnel we saw only 10 users hit the first step and in last step it shows '0' booking.
Hi Seoman10, we don't have any dynamic URL, but when users search the flight according to the city and destination, it generates long ID based tagged url on the site like** http://www.flightcentre.ca/flights/booking/outbound?resultsId=¤tPage=&filters.sortBy=&filters.filterBy=&filters.filterValue=&filters.airlineFilter=&departureCity=&destinationCity=&departureCountry=&destinationCountry=&displayDepartureDate=&displayReturnDate=&destination=LAX%2C+Los+Angeles%2C+International+Airport%2C+California%2C+USA&departure=YYZ%2C+Toronto%2C+Pearson+International+Airport%2C+Ontario%2C+Canada&departureDate=20150925&returnDate=20150929&time=&seatClass=Y&selectedResult=&requestType=&searchtype=RE&direct_flight=&children=0&adults=1&adultAge_1=0&adultAge_2=0&adultAge_3=0&adultAge_4=0&adultAge_5=0&adultAge_6=0&childAge_1=0&childAge_2=0&childAge_3=0&insurance_on=&insProvince=&selectedInsuranceCost=0&selectedInsurance=&selectedInsuranceEncrypted=&insTotalPrice=¤tTotal=0.0&totalAdults=0&cachedPrice=0.0&strcurrentTotal=&calendarDepartureDate=&calendarReturnDate=&totalPrice=&finalSelected=&option_1=&option_2=&option_3=&option_4=&option_5=&option_6=&next_day=&prev_day=**
I don't think so it can be the issue in setting up funnel. In funnel I've added only /flights/booking/outbound
Please let me know.

Setting up goals can be interesting! They are very easy to do for small sites with a short user flow but there are a lot of things can get in the way.
Dynamic URLs can be a problem if not set up correctly, also bear in mind it is possible user could enter partway through a funnel assuming it is accessible via live URLs.
Although it might seem obvious double check that your URLs are correct.

Hi Marty,
I think your sites has several goal conversions e.g registration or subscribe blog or visit some specific pages and you set up funnel for only one. Please do check once if that is the case. You can also check below post for funnel set up correctly.

Moving wordpress themes, any best practices on setting up Google Analytics for the change?
We currently have a mess of filters and views in our Google Analytics instance. We have a chance to make a clean start. Wondering if creating a whole new property is a good idea? Or just some additional views? Any other pointers would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Tracking time spent on a section of a website in Google Analytics
Hi, I've been asked by a client to track time spent or number of pages visited on a specific section of their website using Google Analytics but can't see how to do this. For example, they have a "golf" section within their site and want to measure how many people either visit 5 page or more within the golf section or spend at least 6 minutes browsing the various golf section pages. Can anyone advise how if this can be done, and if so, how I go about it. Thanks

Installing Google Analytics tracking code on Landing Pages
Hello, I have my landing pages located on a separated subdomain (LP.example.com). I've created a new property in Google Analytics for that subdomain. My question is: where do I have to place the GA tracking code ? in the header ? before I close the tag or before I close the tag ? I have another issue: I've placed the GA Tracking code on some pages in the way below:

Registration tracking with Google Analytics
Hi everyone, I want to track user registrations with Google Analytics for a customer's website. The thing is after registration visitors are not directed to a specific page, so I can't set it as a goal. I thought of tracking submit button with event tracking, but that data would not be true as a visitor may click it more than once, and there's the login with facebook and twitter thing. Before convincig customer to create a registration confirmation page, I want to make sure there's no other way as they don't want to make any changes to the current website. Any ideas?

Google Analytics - In-Page Analytics
I had a strange thought waking up this morning, and was curious to hear other people's opinions on it. In Google Analytics, under Content > In-Page Analytics, Google shows what links on your site pages get clicked and how many times plus other metrics. Do you think they use that data for ranking back links so-to-speak? What I mean is, say I had a back link to my site on example.com, and example.com had google analytics installed. Google can see through google analytics whether my link has been clicked on. Say that my link gets no clicks, do you think that Google would use that metric against my site deeming it "not popular" or "not a good resource", even if example.com was a very popular site? And it could work the other way. Say my link got thousands of clicks on example.com, do you think that Google might use that to promote my site? I couldn't find any other discussion on this anywhere, so am not sure if people have already thought about this.

Can you help me figure out what happened to my website search results in Google?
On or about the 24th of April I noticed an abrupt decrease in traffic to my website:

http://www.getyourphotosoncanvas.com Sorry this might be long but I’m trying to be as thorough as possible. I thought that I had been hacked, a virus, maybe penalized by Google I don’t know what ? I submitted a reconsideration request to Google and they responded with the following: Reconsideration request for http://www.getyourphotosoncanvas.com/: No manual spam actions found
May 10, 2012
Dear site owner or webmaster of http://www.getyourphotosoncanvas.com/,
We received a request from a site owner to reconsider http://www.getyourphotosoncanvas.com/ for compliance with Google's Webmaster Guidelines. - - - - - -
We reviewed your site and found no manual actions by the webspam team that might affect your site's ranking in Google. There's no need to file a reconsideration request for your site, because any ranking issues you may be experiencing are not related to a manual action taken by the webspam team.
Google Search Quality Team I have ran all kinds of web crawl tests, Google webmaster, talked with SEO “Experts” and still can not figure out what is happening. I decided to use a couple of SEOmoz tools to try to help me explain what is happening. I figured that if I could take a very specific and unique KeyPhrase and run it on a specific page that I might be able to better explain what is happening. Basically, We appear to be no longer searchable by key words or phrases on google?
Here is an example:
Key Phrase: Free Services to Help Improve Your Photos on Canvas
Website: http://www.getyourphotosoncanvas.com/free-photo-canvas-retouching
Attached are some screen shots of the actual search results on Bing, Yahoo and Google along with the ranking tool results from SEOmoz and the on page grade for the key phrase.
Anybody got any Ideas? I am hurting; the internet and Google search is about 40% of by business. http://www.getyourphotosoncanvas.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/05/Bing-Free-Services.jpg http://www.getyourphotosoncanvas.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/05/Yahoo-Free-Services.jpg http://www.getyourphotosoncanvas.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/05/Google-Free-Services.jpg http://www.getyourphotosoncanvas.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/05/SEOmoz-Ranking.jpg http://www.getyourphotosoncanvas.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/05/SEOmoz-Report-Card.jpg [" target="_blank">iframe>](<iframe class=) Bing-Free-Services.jpg Yahoo-Free-Services.jpg Google-Free-Services.jpg SEOmoz-Ranking.jpg SEOmoz-Report-Card.jpg0 -
