Hey all -- ever seen a client with URLs that keep repeating the domain? Something like: client.com/client.com/client.com/subfolder-name. Any idea what glitch could cause that?

This is generally a mix of two issues...
1. Handling 404s improperly
2. An improper relative link9 times out of 10 this is the issue. Let's say, for example, the client's site is "client.com"
A link in their main template looks like this...
a href="client.com/"
instead of...
a href="http://client.com"
or
a href="/"
That first link will cause Google, or any crawler, to visit "http://client.com/client.com". When the bot visits this page, it finds the same a href="client.com/" link and, now tries to visit "http://client.com/client.com/client.com" so on and so forth.
Now, for this to happen, the page also needs to deliver a 200OK, otherwise Google would likely stop trying to access the page because of the 404.
Both of these issues need to be resolved.

It could also be just a link that should be relative, but is not.
you can use screaming frog SEO spider to find the page that is linked from.

Sounds like a faulty CMS issues ... what sort of CMS is it?

Duplicate title tags being caused by upper case and lower case version of urls'
Hi GWT is reporting lots of duplicate titles for a clients new site. Mainly these are due to 2x different versions of the url, one with words starting with an upper case character and the other all lower case. Clients dev saying this has something to do with windows server and is ok! Is this correct or should i be telling them to delete and then 301 redirect all upper case versions to the lower case (since lower case better practice) and that will deal with the reported dupe titles ? All Best Dan

Backlinks go to "example.com" our homepage is "example.com/default.html" am I losing internal link power?
Hey everyone! Thanks again for everybodies contributions to my questions over the last few months. As the title states, our homepage is at "example.com/default.html" but everybody that backlinks to us (as expected) to "example.com" does that mean that I am probably losing a lot of the power of my links??

Long Domain Name - Subpage URL Question
I have a long domain name, so domainname/services/page title can get pretty lengthy. I have a services page, as a summary page since there's a few of htem, with more detailed on the actual page. In this situation, would it be better to do domainname.com/services/service-name which can exceed the suggested 70 characters, or would it be a better idea to do domain.com/service-name and just have hte m under the services menu? Is there any advantage/disadvantage to going out 2-3 tiers? or having the sub pages of those services off the domain instead of a child of the root child page Please let me know if any clarification is needed. Thanks!

How does Google find /feed/ at the end of all pages on my site?
Hi! In Google Webmaster Tools I find *.../feed/ as a 404 page in crawl errors. The problem is that none of these pages exist and they have no inbound links (except the start page). FYI, it´s a wordpress site. Example: www.mysite.com/subpage1/feed/ www.mysite.com/subpage2/feed/ www.mysite.com/subpage3/feed/ etc Does Google search for /feed/ by default or why do I keep getting these 404´s every day?

Domain taken. Which is better? Using hypens or longer domain.
I am wanting to set up an e commerce site and the domain name that I want is taken. I am considering using a domain that has the main keyword I want to rank for as the domain. I have heard chatter of google penalizing these types of sites and it seems that it hasn't come about. This is something that I would like to test out. So if "electricscooters.com" is taken, should I use "electric-scooters.com" or "electricscooters4less.com" Just wondering if the hyphenated or the longer domain will rank higher. The site won't be spammy at all, I will carry a few different companies that offer similar products. So for this case, I would only sell scooters from a few different manufacturers. Feedback would be appreciated!
