Schema.org markup for breadcrumbs: does it finally work?
-
Hi,
TL;DR: Does https://schema.org/BreadcrumbList work?
It's been some time since I last implemented schema.org markup for breadcrumbs. Back then the situation was that google explicitly discouraged the use of the schema.org markup for breadcrumbs. In my experience it had been pretty hit or miss - sometimes it worked without issues; sometimes it did not work without obvious reason. Consequently, I ditched it for the data-vocabulary.org markup which did not give me any issues.
However, I prefer using schema.org and currently a new site is being designed for a client. Thus, I'd like to use schema.org markup for the breadcrumb - but of course only if it works now. Google has dropped the previous warning/discouragements and by now lists a schema.org code https://developers.google.com/structured-data/breadcrumbs based on the new-ish https://schema.org/BreadcrumbList.
Has anybody here used this markup on a site (preferably more than one) and can confirm whether or not it is reliably working and showing the breadcrumb trail / site hierarchy in the SERP?
Thanks for your answers!
Nico

Thanks for the input, Dmitrii and sorry for not replying sooner.
My experience is a bit different - maybe because it mainly stems from well-structured pages that was daily reindexed. Breadcrumbs generally showed up "almost instantly" (i.e. next index round) or "not at all". Same with some other cases of schema - even being deindexed and reindexed (be it after a silly mistake or the realisation that google for some unclear reason dislikes some markup within some others) within the same week has happened to me and is far from extraordinary.
My prior experience with (old) schema.org breadcrumb markup was frustrating to the point of avoiding it; but next time I shall give it a try again. Always better to not mix syntaxes.

Hello, my friend.
The thing with schema is that it takes long time (mostly) to be displayed in SERPs and snippets. You can find lots of threads on this forum about schema taking forever to affect snippets. It usually works in terms that if it's implemented correctly, it won't return any unexpected errors.
As for breadcrumbs - yes, they do work. I have implemented them somewhat recently to our website and it's showing in SERPs. Google "hyperlinks media case study" first three results. I actually was surprised that it took only a month or so to be displayed.
Hope this helps.

Why are Google SERP Sitelinks "Not Working?"
Hi, I'm hoping someone can provide some insight. I Google searched "citizenpath" recently and found that all of our our sitelinks have identical text. The text seems to come from the site footer. It isn't using the meta descriptions (we definitely have) or even a Google-dictated snippet from the page. I understand we don't have "control" of this. It's also worth mentioning that if you search a specific page like "contact us citizenpath" you'll get a more appropriate excerpt. Can you help us understand what is happening? This isn't helpful for Google users or CitizenPath. Did the Google algorithm go awry or is there a technical error on our site? We use up-to-date versions of Wordpress and Yoast SEO. Thanks! search.png

How long does it take for canonical tags to work
How long on average does it take for a canonical tag to work? Understand that canonicals are just a suggestion, but after adding a canonical tag and submitting the page via Google fetch, assuming Google follows the canonical, would you expect it to work after a day or two or does it take longer? We added canonicals to old PPC landing pages that are ranking organically, though our new landing pages (which we want to rank organically) are not identical and have a bit more content/features. They are similar though. Canonicals were added to the old pages (pointing to new pages) and requested indexing via search console. Old pages are still ranking and new pages not so much. FYI we are unable to 301 old PPC pages due to other non negotiable reasons unfortunately. Thanks.

Is it worth re-structuring URLs if breadcrumbs are enabled?
Hi Moz Community, I am wondering if anyone can shed some light on this current predicament I am facing... For my website, which is the site for a magazine I work for, the current URL structure is www.website.com/article-title At first glance, I thought it must be that we would have to re-structure the URLs to include the category structure, for example... www.website.com/category/sub-category/article-title However, upon deeper investigation, I've seen that we do actually have breadcrumbs enabled therefore google is indexing and following the structure that we would re-activate for the URL structure i.e. www.website.com/category/sub-category/article-title With this in mind, is it actually worth re-structuring the URLs to include these categories as it will take a long time to organise and implement?! Obviously, thinking in terms of UX, it is a must-do, but I'm just trying to weigh up the pro's and cons with this.. Appreciate your help, Leigh

Will Redirection of Unnatural Links to the New Domain will work?
Hi All, If a website www.mywebsite.com has received 100 unnatural links and because of that rankings are dropped. I want to follow the below strategy to protect my website from these 100 unnatural links. Please let me know if it will work: Buy a new domain www.newdomain.com with new whois record (Not related to www.mywebsite.com ) Do 301 redirection of all 100 unnatural links (Those are pointing to www.mywebsite.com) to www.newdomain (New domain) Do 302 redirection from www.newdomain (New domain) to www.mywebsite.com (Old Domain) After applying the above strategy, will google still consider those 100 unnatural links for Old domain??

Schema / microdata under Google listing
I was wondering if it was possible to add any schema, or microdata, or anything of that sort, to my website/webpage in order to show the location of the business just underneath the snippet of the website in Google. I have seen this with other businesses and I am not sure if it is only because they have the business listed on Google Places, or if it is because they have schema data on their website and when it is read by Google it shows underneath their snippet in Google search. Also, if there is an ability to make the address, phone, etc show up underneath the Google search listing, can I do this with a plugin or widget for wordpress? Thank you!
