Organic Traffic Drops to Zero After Site Migration
-
I know this question is terribly general . . . but I don't even know where to start in terms of sharing info, which I would be glad to post on request.
My site was recently re-designed and migrated to a new server. I certainly expected SOME drop in traffic as google gets the snew site all figured out, but as you can see this drop has been dramatic. It's a simple wordpress site, I have yoast ptimized on it, I don't have many obvious errors that have not already been fixed that I can see.
I just . ..what the heck is going on and how can I fix it? Is it normal and takes a month or two to sort out? Help! -
Grasshopper, thanks for that. My whole SEO education is full of little holes where I know some crazy deep in depth stuff, but have zero knowledge of some of the most basic things . . . the whole www vs. non ww. thing right I think is one of them.
I test on screaming frog . . on both each is full of "200" codes, but the www version has a 301 redirect on it.
Does that mean I just need to configure moz to be looking for the NON www version and perhaps it will get more accurate information?
Not even checking http vs. https . . . It's not an ecommerce site so I should be OK there.

Have you checked your GA implementation?
1. Go into Admin > Property > Property Settings
- Is your Default URL set correctly? http vs https? www vs non-www?
2. Go into Admin > View > View Settings
- Is your Default URL set correctly? http vs https? www vs non-www?
3. Have you crawled the site with Screaming Frog to verify your tag is on every page?
This "tip" may seem shockingly obvious, but I've been blown away by how many times I've seen it go wrong.

I would check your robots.txt to ensure the entire site isn't being blocked. This is a common mistake with site redesigns or migrations. If you see the following rule, remove it promptly:
- user-agent:*
- disallow: /
If all your other traffic sources are showing (which would verify there's no problems with the analytics tag), it certainly looks like a case of a rogue sitewide noindex meta tag or general robots.txt issue.

would there be a difference between www and non www url preference?
One of these should be used at all times. The one that you don't use should be eliminated by code in your htaccess file, or other controls on your server.

Looks like I'm indexed, webmaster tools says 66 pages. There WERE some redirect errors, but I just fixed those today (though really most were irrelevent . . . .links to gallery pics, even links to some plugins)
I'm wondering if analytics is installed properly . . .would there be a difference between www and non www url preference?

One of my competitors has his site redesigned about once a year. His designers make errors like,
** upload the new site with noindex
** change all the URLs and not redirect
** use their company name in every title tag
We enjoy making his money because he usually ranks above us. They usually catch it right away but this year the site has been noindexed for a few months now.
Other problems could be bad DNS, analytics not installed properly.

Sudden big drop in ranking - update, tech issue or penalty?
We are managing a website that was previously consistently ranking on P1 or top position on P2 and over the weekend (28th Jan) suddenly dropped to P5. What is the best way of ascertaining whether this was down to an update, a tech issue or a penalty? There are other pages on the site (sub-folders) which are still continuing to rank well on the site for similar kws. Regards,

Domain Authority dropping for me and rival companies
Hey, I have noticed in the past week/2 weeks that my websites domain authority has dropped by 2 points but what is weird is all the other website which are our main competitors in our industry have also dropped by 2. I was wondering if anyone knows of any changes that have been made to the way the domain authority is calculated or is it just a coincident that we all dropped at one time?

Is your live site supposed to have rel canonical tags?
I recently started working for a company and got them to use Moz and I have found that our secure site and our live sites are creating "duplicate content" according to the Crawl Diagnostics feature. On our secure site we have rel canonical tags pointing to our live site. I'm not super familiar with rel canonical tags, but our developer says we're doing the right thing. Would love any insight you guys may have if this is actually duplicate content or not. Thanks so much!

Open Site Explorer and link numbers
I know this question has been asked many times in this forum but I still can't work it out. Why does this link: http://www.opensiteexplorer.org/links?page=1&site=www.bookpal.com.au&sort=page_authority&filter=&source=external&target=subdomain&group=0 Which is showing all links, external, to pages "on this sub domain" show 1,935 external links but this link: http://www.opensiteexplorer.org/links?page=1&site=www.bookpal.com.au&sort=page_authority&filter=follow&source=external&target=subdomain&group=0 which is exactly the same but this time shoing followed + 301 links, says "showing 1 - 50 external links) but won't show the total links (and I know the mouse-over on the question mark says it's won't show the total links, but I don't understand why it can't show the total links when it could show the total links when I requested to see "all links" instead of just "followed+301" links.) but it actually lists 700 links (14 pages, 50 results each page). I know the link list is limited to 25 links per domain but then it means you can NEVER know the total link count unless you download the full report. This makes using OSE to know numbers of links (internal, external, or otherwise) impossible. And if anyone uses the API, why the API (external+follow) returns 1,451 links? I'm sure it's an ongoing issue with people trying to get their head around all of this and I've never really been able to. Any insight would be much appreciated!

Can open site explorer miss incoming links?
In open site explorer I only see one linking domain, eventhough I know of at least 1 other. Why is that?

How Do I deal with duplicate page titles for pages on eCommerce site
Hi We have an ecommerce site selling physical products. There are a few areas where the products run into two pages. I have used canonical meta tags and next and prev meta tags too. Despite this SEOMOZ reports are still displaying these as warnings for duplicate page titles. An example would be /brand_name/range/ <link rel="next" href="/brand_name/range/?page=2" /> <link rel="<a class="attribute-value">canonical</a>" href="/band_name/range/"/> /brand_name/range/?page=2 <link rel="<a class="attribute-value">prev</a>" href="/brand_name/range/" /> <link rel="<a class="attribute-value">canonical</a>" href="/band_name/range/?page=2"/> Should I be doing something different?

Gained Links but MozRank drops. Why?
I'm working with a client whose external followed links rose from 897 to 2792 in about a month. However the client's domain MozRank dropped from 4.52 to 3.82. What is a possible cause for this drop?

Why is there such a difference between Open Site Explorer and Domain Analysis?
When I look at my links in the Competitive Domain Analysis and I see I have 113,018 Ext followed links but Open Site Explorer shows 3,148. Why is there such a difference? In addition, is there a way to view the External Followed links? I want to see where these 113,018 links are coming from. Thanks, Josh
