Very different PA for 2 versions of the same domain homepage - how to fix pls?
-
Hi Mozzers,
I have a newish website and have been monitoring the DA and PA.
http://www.domain.com has a PA of just 21
http://domain.com has a PA of 32.
Both have completely different backlinks showing up. Id really like the PA of 31 as the h.page isn't ranking at all yet.
ANy advice on this would be great thank you. And sorry if it's really basic stuff for many of you!
Best, James

Thanks again for answering. One version does seem to have better links. Perhaps Moz will eventually see them as the same domain as the redirect has only been in place for about 1 month.
I may ask the developers to verify and set the preferred domain also.
Thank you!

Well, it could be down to how the homepage is linked. For example, if there are more links going to the www version of the webpage than the non-www version, then the www version will most likely have a higher PA.
EDIT: Another thing, if you redirect the non-www to the www, most of the "page authority" will "flow" through the redirect so the main URL version will benefit from the combined links to www and non-www, if that makes sense.

Thanks for your answers! the developers confirmed that the non www is being redirected to the www.
Any ideas why MOZ shows a different PA for the 2 pages? Thanks

To add to this, and briefly explain why it's bad practice to have two versions of the same page available: basically, having the two versions will negatively affect either of them ranking due to the duplicate content. They are cannibalising each other. There should only ever be one URL version of any page on the website. So you will also want to redirect /index.html or /index.php to your preferred homepage URL also. And make sure that you either redirect non-www to www or vice versa sitewide - not just on the homepage.

Hi James
What would be best is making sure that both domain.com and www.domain.com come back to the same page through a redirect in your server settings. By doing that you'll make sure they end up being the same page and they'll also have the same Page Authority in the future.

Purchasing an established domain name - Whats the right move?
Hey Moz community, To fill you in, we have a situation where we are able to purchase a domain name that has some longevity behind it, has some great inbound links coming to it, and until recently was ranking incredibly well for all of the relevant keywords nationwide. The issue is, the seller took their website down about a month ago and now, since the domain has been sitting there going to no mans lands for that period of time, it has fallen off the map for all of those important keyword rankings. I'm looking for guidance on the following: 1. If we still move forward with purchasing the domain name, do you believe we could recover those rankings quickly? Or are we better off building from scratch with a new domain. 2. Because of the back links alone, I still feel there is some value in this domain name. The issue is, if we buy it, what do we do with it when we have it? Make that our primary domain name going forward? direct the domain name to a landing page/site that ultimately leads website visitors down a path to get to our website? Something else? Any insight / thoughts / suggestions would be greatly appreciated. DH.

Any reason why an OSE spam Score is different for www and non-www versions of a site?
When checking the root domain links and DA in OSE pasted a non-www URL of my site and showed up with a spam score of 9. When I pasted the www. version it showed none. Does anyone think this is a cause for concern or just a bug?

Greater Number of Linking Domains in Anchor Text Excel Export?
I exported the anchor text for a domain from Opensite Explorer and when I sum the "Number of Linking Root Domains Containing Anchor Text" it is higher than the total amount of linking root domains for the site. Is this because some domains use multiple anchor text links, so it is counted more than once in the exported spreadsheet?

Why isn't my Domain Authority much higher than my competitors'?
Looking at the Competitive Link Analysis report shows my domain outperforming my competitors on Domain MozRank, Domain MozTrust, total links, linking root domains, followed linking root domains, and linking c-blocks. But Domain Authority scores are very similar across all four sites with one competitor actually scoring higher than my domain. How should I unpick this result? I'm assuming that there must a problem with my link profile. Is that a valid assumption? Thanks, Tom fc7Ez.png
