Could my Crawl Error Report be wrong?
-
HI there,
I am using Yoast SEO plugin on a wordpress website. I am currently showing 70 Med priority crawl errors 'missing meta description' on my Moz pro account.
This number of missing meta descriptions has increased over the last 6 weeks. But every single page / post / tag / category has both the title and meta description completed via Yoast.
I requested a google bot to crawl the site a few weeks ago as thought it perhaps wasn't been crawled and updated.
Any idea what the issue might be? Could the Moz report be incorrect for some reason? Or could something be blocking Moz / Google from seeing the Yoast plugin?

You do have an empty meta description tag in the header of each page:
But it is followed by a meta description tag with content. Perhaps the crawler is getting caught up on the first one and reporting that?

Hi Matt,
Yes of course, the following a showing 'missing meta description' on the report.

Hi Stacey! Are you by any chance able to share a few of the URLs with the error so we can take a look?
-
Do you have any urls with query strings? I ran into this a few weeks ago. The report will see each url with a query string as unique and flag each one as missing a meta description if the main url does not have a meta description.
For me, it was just a registration form that had data pre-populated by the query string. I added a meta description to the registration form page, which was also pointed to as the canonical, and 65 errors were fixed.

I have found Moz to be quite accurate I agree with Laura use Screaming frog to run a crawl as well and compare and contrast the missing meta descriptions and other errors you may find between the two crawlers. Or another solution would be to go to the URL's in question with missing meta descriptions and view the source code and look for the tags in and see if they in fact are missing.
I cant speak on the accuracy of yoast but I have not had any problems with the Moz crawler in the past.

I can't speak to the validity of the Moz report in your case, but you might want to try a different crawler like Screaming Frog and compare what you are seeing from Moz.

Crawl diagnostics incorrectly reporting duplicate page titles
Hi guys, I have a question in regards to the duplicate page titles being reported in my crawl diagnostics. It appears that the URL parameter "?ctm" is causing the crawler to think that duplicate pages exist. In GWT, we've specified to use the representative URL when that parameter is used. It appears to be working, since when I search site:http://www.causes.com/about?ctm=home, I am served a single search result for www.causes.com/about. That begs the question, why is the SEOMoz crawler saying there is duplicate page titles when Google isn't (doesn't appear under the HTML improvements for duplicate page titles)? A canonical URL is not used for this page so I'm assuming that may be one reason why. The only other thing I can think of is that Google's crawler is simply "smarter" than the Moz crawler (no offense, you guys put out an awesome product!). Any help is greatly appreciated and I'm looking forward to being an active participant in the Q&A community! Cheers, Brad

Crawl Report Warnings
How much notice should be paid to the warnings on the SEO Moz crawl reports? We manage a fairly large property site and a lot of the errors on the crawl reports relate to automated responses. Question About Moz Reports
Hey guys Is it possible to change the date/time that SEOmoz runs its ranking reports? I put together ranking reports each Monday which I need to feedback to the business and it would be good if I could schedule these for late Sunday or early Monday mornings for me coming in to the office.

Duplicate page error from SEOmoz
SEOmoz's Crawl Diagnostics is complaining about a duplicate page error. I'm trying to use a rel=canonical but maybe I'm not doing it right. This page is the original, definitive version of the content: https://www.borntosell.com/covered-call-newsletter/sent-2011-10-01 This page is an alias that points to it (each month the alias is changed to point to the then current issue): https://www.borntosell.com/covered-call-newsletter/latest-issue The alias page above contains this tag (which is also updated each month when a new issue comes out) in the section: Is that not correct? Is the https (vs http) messing something up? Thanks!
