Hi I have recently been looking for some new content creators to work with. And I recently asked a blogger that I know of how much he would charge for some content creations. I told him that I'm looking for some good compelling content that is about 400 to 500 words. And he told me that he would charge $180 an hour. I sorta feel like that's a bit to much, but I don't want to jump to conclusions without any advice from you all. I'm very well versed in my SEO and do most of the work for my site. But I think a fresh touch would really be helpful.

I'm a content creator/copywriter. When people ask me about writing some pages for their site, I quote anywhere from $50 to $75 per hour, or I give a flat fee that's based on that rate. A blog post might be $150 to $200, and a "money" page might be $250. I've been doing this for about six years.

I know some copywriters go up to $100/hour, which I would do if the piece involved reporting and/or a lot of research. But for a blog post or a smallish site, I wouldn't charge that much.

              I hope this helps!

Yep, I agree with both of these posts. I looked at the site on your profile and if that's the site you are thinking about hiring a writer for, I really don't see the need to pay that much for something like that unless you KNEW for a fact that it was going to be UBER compelling. In my experience, compelling content for local businesses is usually written by someone who is a) an expert in that industry and b) has an extremely unique voice. So unless this individual checks both of these boxes, I wouldn't pay anywhere near that personally.

I agree with Egol. If you are worth of being paid USD 180 per hour, then you don't need to sell your work, you can make money out of it easily.

In my past experience, I've seen people writing for USD 10 per hour, the quality is OK but you need to improve the text before posting. Anyway, as a content creator myself, this week I decided not to pay anymore for any content. Creating value is more important than quantity, even for SEO, as I have been noticing.

Take a look at the person's previous work.   Does it get published, mentioned or linked to on extremely high quality websites - websites that everyone has heard of?  Is it interesting, helpful, hilarious, provocative?   Does it get shared?  Does it rank?  Is this person visible, known and respected throughout your industry?   Does their writing generate a lot of immediate attention and traffic when it is published on their own website?  How much would it be worth to you to have an article from this person on your website?

If their work  is published on your website do you think your visitors will respond well to it and spontaneously share it with their tribes?  If the answer to the above is "yes" then this person might not realize the value of their work and be crazy for selling it for $180 per hour.

My personal opinion is that many of the best authors don't sell their work.  They publish much of it on their own website and give the rest away without charge to websites that are valuable for "getting their message out" or helping other people.  Much of the quality content published on the moz blog fits this pattern.

(Personal opinion, I would not give a great author a wordcount.  I would want then to write what is needed to do a great job.)

                      Reusing content on different ccTLDs

We have a client with many international locations, each of which has their own ccTLD domain and website. Eg company-name.com, company-name.com.au, company-name.co.uk, company-name.fr, etc. Each domain/website only targets their own country, and the SEO aim is for each site to only rank well within their own country. We work for an individual country's operations, and the international head office wants to re-use our content on other countries' websites. While there would likely be some optimsation of the content for each region, there may be cases where it is re-used identically. We are concerned that this will cause duplicate content issues. I've read that the separate ccTLDs should indicate to search engines that content is aimed at the different locations - is this sufficient or should we be doing anything extra to avoid duplicate content penalties? Or should we argue that they simply must not do this at all and develop unique content for each? Thanks Julian

Does google penalize you if you post content in french and english on a website

I'm trying to encourage content editors to only  post content in either English or French. For example we have a French press release but the team are wanting it on our site in French and English.  I thought this would fall under duplicate content rules. Does google penalize you if you post content in French and English on a website?

Internal blog with history and some SEO value versus new external blogs with specialized content?

We operate a blog inside a folder on our site and considering the launch of 4 highly focused blogs with specialized content which are now categories on the internal blog. Wondering if there is more value in using the external new blogs or just keep growing the internal blog content. Does fact that the internal blog is buried amongst millions of pages have any impact if we want the content indexed and value given to the links from the blog content to our main site pages.

                      Duplicate Content behind a Paywall

We have a website that is publicly visible. This website has content. We'd like to take that same content, put it on another website, behind a paywall. Since Google will not be able to crawl those pages behind the paywall is there any risk to ua doing this? Thanks! Mike

Are reciprocal internal links weaker than one way?

Hi guys I have an eCommerce site and a blog. the blog is on a suddomain. I am writing content about our products on the blog, I.e. Full in depth reviews and top 10 lists etc. These blog posts link back to the main product page. It would also be nice for customers on the site to a "blogs about this product" section. However, would a link from the product page to the blog weaken the internal link from the blog to the product? Thanks Paul

Is there a way to repost content (with permission) to another site without being penalized by Google?

I write a monthly Social Media Marketing column for a local Business Journal and the column is printed in their paper as well as posted on their website. Is there any way I can repost these articles on my website's blog without being penalized by Google for "duplicate content"?

                      Duplicat Website Content? (UK, Ireland)

Hi, My website is based in Ireland on a .ie domain & now I would like to enter the UK market on a .co.uk Is it ok for me to duplicate my .ie website and provide all the information on a .co.uk OR is this considered duplicate content in terms of Google. (I'm led to believe that your own content on my domain's is not considered duplicate & this is only considered duplicate content when you go from .com to .ie, .co.uk etc). (all content, images, branding are my own).
