Switch hosting to be closer to site visitors, and 99% dropped from rankings?
-
Last week I decided to switch for a UK server to a US one at Hostgator since most of my visitors are from the US.
About nine hours later 99% of my pages disappeared from google rankings, only a few non-relevant pages are at position 100-200. All decent (1000-2000 word) articles on specific topics, are gone.
These pages were getting 2-3 minutes per user of readership and a low bounce rate, so I think they were pretty good quality.
Does anyone think it's possible I got accidentally added on a blacklisted IP? Or why would something like this happen.
Since then, I've tried switching back to the old IP for 3 days, that didn't work. Now I've filed a reinclusion request with the details.
Has anyone had a similar experience? What can possibly cause this massive drop in rankings and traffic?
Any help is much appreciated!

That was my first thought also, but no returns of rankings after 4 days now

One other possibility--especially if some pages are gone completely--could be that Google decided to crawl it at the exact moment it was down. Since propagation can take up to 48 hours, you're going to have some down time in some locations. If that's the case, once Google crawls it a second time, you should go back to your old positions.

Hello Peter.
Blacklisted IP is a possibility, but this is the kind of dance that happens when you move a site.
Another possibility is that this is the new reality.
I've had my site in google adsense since 2005.
I changed the company and they made me request a new adsense account and when I did that, they rejected my site so now I have no ads at all.
They seem to love destroying businesses, and there is no comeback and no way to talk to someone about it.

Linking from a corporate site to a brand site.
Is there an SEO impact to a large corporation linking from a corporate and/or a divisional site to a specific brand site with it's own top level domain? We would like to keep the traffic coming, but not if it will be seen as a black hat tactic. My guess is that Google will be smart enough to see that the corporation owns the brand and at least not penalize us, but I am wondering if anyone else has this experience? Google Analytics is calling it self-referral.

Flash site ranking well for a competitive keyword
Hello Mozzers, Thought we'd get the group's opinion on this: This site (power lead generation) is ranking for the keyword "lead generation" on Google.ca at the 5th position organically . It's performing even better than some of the better optimized sites with more content related to this keyword. Any input would be appreciated. Cheers, SEO5..

Can you explain why the site is dropping off Google every other week?
Can anyone offer any insight into why since the Google Panda update www.bedandbreakfastsguide.com has been fluctuating on Google so much? One week it's ranked as it used to be, the next it's nowhere to be seen? If you take a look at the screenshot of our traffic, this is the traffic after 75% loss (dropped in two stages) you'll see we get traffic for a week and then nothing. This has been happening for months. Some points that might be involved: Around the same time the SEO guys suggested setting the canonical url to www.bedandbreakfastsguide.com (before there wasn't one so traffic was coming from www. and non-www). A lot of the original urls have been consolidated and rel="canonical" added throughout The "pages" of results all have had a rel="canonical" set to page 1 Could it be that the www is competing with the non-www despite the 301 redirects. We're doing everything we can to help this client (and have reduced their site errors from the millions to low tens-of-thousands) so it's not filling them with confidence when their site just keeps plumetting! What's also irritating/odd is that some of their competitors -who used to be ranked lower and have sites which contradict every rulebook still rank high. Hopefully you can spot something we've missed. Tim I8PNL

How would you fix this site?
We're currently in the IA and design phase of rolling out a complete overhaul of our main site. In the meantime I've been doing some SEO triage, but I wanted to start making a longer term plan for SEO during and after the new site goes up. We have a pretty decent domain authority, and some quality backlinks, but we're just getting creamed in the SERPs. And so on to my question: How would you fix this site? What SEO strategy would you employ? http://www.adoptionhelp.org Thanks!
