Will Amazon outrank our Online Store?
-
We're looking to add our products on Amazon to expend our reach of customers, but one question that I can't answer for sure is, will the Amazon product page outrank our online store's product page?
I'm thinking that if we re-write the description and re-arrange the product name that we'll be fine but I'd like your guys’ opinion on this.
Extra Info: Product that we're selling aren't listed on amazon, we're the only one selling these. So we might be shooting ourselves in the foot by trying to sell on Amazon since no one else is selling that product.
Any feedback is greatly appreciated!

Hi Frank,
It looks like you are the manufacturer of the products you sell. Going on Amazon could expose your products to new customers that otherwise would not find you. I guess the question is are your competitors on Amazon? If you're happy with sales as they are, you can choose to stay away, but if you are looking to expand, it might be worth a try. Their fees are significant and they are always coming up with ways to get in your pocket. Also managing them will add hours to your week.
If you do decide to do it there are a few options. Vendor Central and Seller Central. There is a great group on LinkedIn named "Amazon Vendor Central (AVC)" you should look at. You can learn a lot there about negotiating your deal with Amazon before you jump. Also the pros and cons of VC and SC.
Good Luck!

Our main reason was to be discoverable on that shopping platform.
But with all your feedback and the cost of selling through amazon I came to the conclusion that we'll have to stay away from 'em!
Thanks

The main reason is that Amazon take a huge chunk out of our margins.
But like you and @EGOL mentioned, it would be pretty hard to outrank something like Amazon.
Thanks for the feedback!

That's exactly what I was thinking but wasn't sure, thanks for confirming!

Hi
Amazon outranks us all the time, they have a huge authority. It depends how high your Domain Authority is compared to theirs?
They'll probably outrank you, but do you care if you're making sales through them?

Hi Francois,
One question: If this product is only available from yourselves, why are you looking to sell on Amazon? Are you not better keeping this on your site, or is there another decision to this?

I would not do this if the product is not currently on Amazon.
Everybody loves Amazon and many people go there to compare prices before making any purchase. If your product is sold on Amazon, then the Amazon.com website will become your organic competitor. They are really hard to beat. Really hard. Heavyweight sites have trouble beating Amazon.
If your product is available on your site and on amazon, and because amazon is the preferred vendor for millions of people and the and the price comparison standard for millions of people, a lot of your business will go to amazon. This will reduce your profits because you will pay them commission, complicate your shipping if you fulfill amazon customers in a different way, and add another element of work for your accountant.
I don't know anything about your site but I can say that most domains are unable to beat Amazon for most of the products that they sell. I can't beat amazon for most of the products that I sell.

If I 301 redirect a sub-page that is #1, will I risk losing SERP?
I have a site that for some reason Google decided to rank one of our articles #1 for a fairly competitive term. The article is kind of a BS blog post and I want to 301 it to our page about the topic as that's designed for conversion. If I do this, will we risk losing the ranking? If so, what are other options? Can I change the content of the ranked page to something closer to our landing page? Any advice is welcome!

We have a website that has awesome metrics but will not rank - any thoughts?
Our website www.mikestaff.com (Detroit wedding services company..djs, photographers, videography) has fantastic competitive metrics, as in we beat the competition at every ranking factor, but we are still buried in the actual SERPs We are trying to rank for similar/identical keywords as our competitors in almost each of the main categories of the site: specifically detroit wedding dj...photographer...videographer..etc. We also have a Chicago office that we are trying to rank the site for with specific chicago pages. The website makes you choose right at the beginning what market you are in - Detroit or Chicago. We have A grades on all of our main keywords and the pages that we are trying to rank. But again we are buried on the second and third page of the SERPs in most of these keywords. Help - Moz community :-)Any thoughts on what we might be missing? BceI0XR

Ever had a case where publication of products & descriptions in ebay or amazon caused Panda penalty?
One of our shops got a Panda penalty back in september. We sell all our items with same product name and same product description also on amazon.com , amazon.co.uk, ebay.com and ebay.co.uk. Did you ever have a case where such multichannel sales caused panda penalty?

Not sure why Home page is outranked by less optimized internal pages.
We launched our website just three weeks ago, and one of our primary keyword phrases is "e-business consultants". Here's what I don't get. Our home page is the page most optimized around this search phrase. Using SEOmoz On-Page Optimization tool, the home page scores an "A". And yet it doesn't rank in the top 50 on Google Canada, although two other INTERNAL pages - www.ebusinessconsultants.ca/about/consulting-team/ & /www.ebusinessconsultants.ca/about/consulting-approach/ - rank 5 & 6 on Google Canada, even though they only score a grade "C" for on-page optimization for this keyword phrase. I've always understood that the home page is the most powerful page. Why are these others outranking it? I checked the crawl and Google Webmaster, and there is no obvious problem on the home page. Is this because the site is so new? It goes against all previous experience I've had in similar situation. Any guidance/ insight would be highly appreciated!!

What will happen after I 301 this domain?
A while back I created a new website. Somehow my "scratch" copies of the site got indexed even though I didn't have links built to them. (In the future I will use noindex tags when I am playing around with designing). Now, I have three versions of the site online...let's call them TheRealSite.com and Practice1.com and Practice2.com. Practice1.com and Practice2.com now rank #1 for their main keyword. (It's a relatively uncompetitive niche). TheRealSite.com is somewhere lower than page 20 despite having an exact keyword match domain name. I'm assuming that Google considered it duplicate content as it is the exact same thing as Practice1 and 2. I had considered simply removing Practice1 and 2 from the server, but I was worried that if I did that, I would lose my #1 rankings if TheRealSite didn't recover. So, what I've done is 301 redirect Practice1 and Practice2 to TheRealSite. I'm guessing that over time TheRealSite will come back to #1 and then I can just remove the files from Practice1 and Practice2. Is this the best way to handle this situation?
