Improving page rank for a social media profile?
-
What are some ways to build links to social media page that links back to your website?
Example: Building links to my Pinterest page that links back to my website.
Who do we pump up the Pinterest page?
-
There are a handful of Social media websites that offer do follow links, like the newer Pinterest business page, or a Crunch Base page. I have even come across people that have do follow links from the Flickr profile that has a Page rank of 5.
I agree that I don't want to waste to much time on this, but I have seen some people that have taken this idea to a whole new level.
-
It's just to confirm that the links represent the same person or company. So the link markup for your Twitter account (with alt, width etc. removed) would be:
<a< span="">href="http://twitter.com/example" rel="me"></a<>![](twitter-icon.gif)
-
When you provide someone else with content for them to publish you could include your profile link as a way for others to learn more about you.
The real question is why would I want to visit your social media profiles? if there is a good reason for sending me to your profile (as a person) then include it as you would include any other link to your site when you are looking to send visitors to it, however if the goal is to just increase the number of links then I think you are working on the wrong problem.
I hope this helps
Sean

What is 'rel=me' and how does it help your seo. I have a few social links on my webpage but not sure I have it set up right.

"But, I am not getting a clue of why someone should invest time building links of a social profile when the link from the social profile to your page is no followed (in most cases)?"
One reason would be to dominate page 1 of the SEs with your brand name.
As for building links to social profiles, there are Pinterest directories (search Google for them) but as I haven't looked at any of them I couldn't vouch for the quality. There are also Twitter directories; Topsy, Twellow and Klout for example.
You could comment on relevant blogs and use your social profiles as your link (most will be nofollow, but it should be about building an audience (if your social profiles are useful to this audience) by posting valuable comments - and it can lead to further links).
It'll help to link to your social profiles from your own website(s) using 'rel=me' in the anchor tag.

In my opinion profile pages are similar to any other page or URL so building links idea will be the same like any other URL. Like mentioning it on your emails, adding this on other social profiles like facebook, twitter, about.me and more...
But, I am not getting a clue of why someone should invest time building links of a social profile when the link from the social profile to your page is no followed (in most cases)?

What is everyone using for social media reporting now?
Now that Moz has retired the social element, I'm at a loss as to what to use instead. What have you all switched to? We use Hootsuite to schedule Twitter and LinkedIn posts for our clients, and Facebook native mode for scheduling there. At the end of each month I produce an SEO report for each client and up to now, that's always included the social report from Moz. I want to be able to report on the following for Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter. what traffic has come to the client's website from each social channel growth in followers/fans engagement for the month eg how many retweets, likes, shares etc best performing posts on each channel I've looked at Sprout, but it seems to me that in order for Sprout to give you all the reporting info you need, you have to use it to manage all your social media channels, and as mentioned above, we already use Hootsuite for this. I don't want to switch completely. Twitter Analytics gives me the info I want for Twitter, but doesn't output this to a pdf style graphical report. I just want a nice summary to give my clients every month. Any ideas as to the best way to report on all this while still using Hootsuite to do the scheduling? My feeling is that I just want a flexible, easy to use and comprehensive reporting tool that covers all social channels, and not a social media management tool.

Which is best for SEO: Dedicated landing pages for contests or templated page URL?
A colleague and I were having a discussion about this and wanted to get insight from the community about this. Most often we run contests on social channels, but for some we place them on our e-commerce web site - particularly those which have a universal appeal to customers since these also tend to be included in our e-mails. So our question is with regard to any links built to those contest pages, is it better to: have them point to a unique page, Example: domain.com/customer-appreciation-contest OR A reusable page/URL that can continuously be repurposed and updated for new contests. Example: domain.com/contests We discussed pros/cons of each but am curious if anyone here has insight or source that definitively advises which method is best. Thanks in advance for your thoughts!

Social button yes or social button no...
Hi everybody! It's quite clear that if you have a pretty, clean, compact html code on your website, Google loves you as a lovely mom does with her kids. But it's not a dream world and you have actually to choose between social and clean code. In fact to add, for example, the Facebook social button, you have to include some files from the Facebook servers. Even though the googlebot doesn't download them (but people do, with page optimization decreasing), it reads some javascript code. Moreover you have to add some code where you want the button appears. I think it hasn't much sense for the googlebot, so that could it be punitive for your website / page to place that bunch of code? In the end my question is the following: Does the social power win against negative factors like additional files to download and a bunch of ugly code in your body? social power > bad factors (file downloading+more code)?

SEO & Social | More SEO effect by liking the page URL rather than the Facebook Page?
SEOMoz Gurus, I am wondering what our best implementation strategy shoul dbe around linking up the Facebook Like button on our pages. Essentially there are two options: A) Linking the button directly to the Facebook Page of the web site so every Like is actually converting into a Facebook "Fan" which can be messaged going forward through our Facebook page. B) Having them like the actual URL which might be more beneficial from an SEO and viral perspective as now a link to the actual URL gets shared on the Liker's facebook wall and it should also be easier to use that lIke for Google & Co. as it's tied to the actual URL not a random Facebook page given that search engines already convert those signals. Both approaches obviously have their benefits. Are there any common guidelines on what is a better approach to take from a pure SEO perspective? Thanks /Thomas
