Can my affiliate subdomain hurt in any way?
-
Hello everyone,
My main website is:
http://www.virtualsheetmusic.com
Whereas the above site's related "affiliate" website is located on the subdomain below:
http://affiliates.virtualsheetmusic.com
I was wondering if having that "affiliate section" on a subdomain could affect the main website negatively in some way... or would be better to put it in a sub-folder on the main website, or even on a totally different domain.
Thanks in advance for any advice!

sub-domain vs folder - here is a whiteboard friday about the differences: https://moz.com/blog/subdomains-vs-subfolders-rel-canonical-vs-301-how-to-structure-links-optimally-for-seo-whiteboard-friday
In your case i'd put it in subfolder

Thank you guys, your answer really clarified everything. No black hat, and no spam, absolutely. We should be ok then. I got confused when I read articles around (Randy also wrote something about it) where suggested to get rid of sub domains and put everything in sub-folders instead, but I guess that was just to benefit of link equity toward the main domain, otherwise wasted in the sub-domain... right?

Hello Fabrizio,
Just to add (and trying to add more information) to what Dimitii said.
Remember that subdomains are treated as separate sites, from the main domain. So if you're not in any black hay SEO or spammy tecniques, you shouldn't have any issues. Also, there will be no problem with sharing some links with the main site, as a internal linking.
Best Luck.

Howdy.
Is this affiliate program spammy or tricky in any way? if not, meaning that everything is straight forward, no link exchange or any black hat seo, there won't be any repercussions. Many companies have affiliate programs which are true part of their business model, and there is nothing wrong with that.

Can I data highlight pages that already have schema?
Hi all, I have pages with schema on but there are some gaps. Rather than ask my dev team / wait for the changes to be made, can I use the data highlighting tool in GSC to fill in these gaps? Will it let me add these and will Google generally consider both the schema and the highlighted data? To note, if I have used GSC to highlight data and then test it in Google's Structured Markup Test Tool it won't show so I understand it may be difficult to test whether it's working or not. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

JSON Schema with Multiple Affiliations
I have an attorney that has multiple affiliations that I want to mark up with JSON schema. What is the best way to do this?... Option #1: "affiliation": "Example 1, Example 2", Option #2 "affiliation": "Example 1",

"affiliation": "Example 2", Or, is there another way to do this that I haven't considered?0 -
Can you use multiple rel alternate tags for different device subdomains?
When redirecting from desktop to mobile with a separate URL structure, you need to have a rel alternate - rel canonical handshake to define the relationship between the pages. But if you have a different subdomain for different mobile devices, can you add more than one rel alternate tag on the desktop page? EG if site.com is redirecting to iphone.site.com, m.site.com, android.site.com

Website, webshop and blog. Subfolders or subdomains?
Hello fellow mozzers, I've seen a lot of discussion and confusion about whether you should use subfolders or subdomains when you have a website, a blog and a webshop.
Intermediate & Advanced SEO | | WesleySmits
Of course with subfolders the PageRank will be more effective since it's all in one domain. On the other hand subdomains will be a better user experience since you can focus on just the webshop or just the blog. Was wondering how you guys/girls think what would be the best way to handle this.0 -
Dealing with Spammy Affiliate Site Copies
We have a longstanding site that sells media files with a large number of digital products. We offer a referral program with rewards for those that tell others about us. In the last year, we have seen some sites popping up primarily in China that appear to be spammy looking advertisement based copies of our own site with product pages that link back to our actual products using a referral link/code. (no-follow links.) These sites started popping out more when we noticed that some of their pages were outranking our own actual product pages. Any thoughts on this? Our affiliate policy states that the affiliate program is meant to help and not harm our site. In one sense this is traffic to our site which is supposed to be a good thing, but if these pages are ranking above our own, that is not what we are wanting. I would bet these pages might get clicked on and due to the spammy nature of these sites, the user bounces and never actually gets to our website. How would you handle something like this? Thanks!! Location appearing on search result. how can this be achieved?
I'm pretty sure this site is not doing any SEO but i think what made them no. 1 is the location. I already tried adding a google publisher tag to my site that points to my google page which contains my address but i still can't have the location appear.. here's a screenshot of the search result that i want to achieve: https://www.dropbox.com/s/tbdv3121rrs6zp5/Screen Shot 2013-04-15 at 9.39.30 AM.png Screen%20Shot%202013-04-15%20at%209.39.30%20AM.png

How important is it to create a subdomain?
I was just reading an article about how Hubpages claims they pulled through from Panda by dividing their content up on subdomains. I'm wondering if anyone else has had similar success? Also, Panda aside, how important do you think it is to separate different types of content out on separate subdomains?
