Twitter Username Change / Character length
-
Hi
Re: Changing Twitter Usernames/Character Length Issues:
To improve the branding of a clients Twitter username I'm about to change clients 11 character Twitter username which currently is half brand name plus a number i.e. @halfbrand99 to a full brand name plus regional suffix i.e. @fullbrandnameuk (since brand name alone not available) totalling 16 characters.
I know Twitter usernames should be as short as possible but think more important to maintain consistent brand identity across all social platforms. I have already changed the page profile name to brand name, included brand name in bio and linked to site in bio but not sure whether to change the username or not too ?
Whats your opinion ?
- It doesnt matter, leave as is since shorter better re: character limits and rest of profile well branded
OR
- Better to change to longer branded username for consistent brand identity ?
Note: I will be setting up new profile for old username to catch and divert any peeps using old username etc
Cheers

I'd vote with Stephanie to go with the branded username. One of the challenges with your current name is that the random numbers at the end make it hard for users to remember it if they're going to type it in or you're going to mention it verbally in conversation. (it's needed more often than you may think).
There is a tradeoff with the extra characters reducing the number available for you r tweets, and requiring people to adapt to the new name, but in my opinion, long-term it would be worth it.
Like Stephanie, I've done this for clients and it's been worth it.
In addition to trapping the old username once you've made the change, be sure to think about all the other accounts associated with your current Twitter profile that you'll need to update as well. (Google search for the original username will remind you of many of them)

My Opinion: Change to longer branded username for consistent brand identity. If you brand properly they will remember your name anyway, regardless of how long it is.
Personally I have done this for clients and had great success.
Hope that helps

Links to Social Media accounts, rel=nofollow/follow and rel=me
Hi guys, I just saw this rel="me" attribute and I can't find any reputable recent (within last year) information. I never heard of this and wonder if it's any beneficial in any way. At the same time, should I use nofollow or follow on links from website to social accounts? I've heard different opinions but, again, no recent relevant and trustworthy information. Please, kick me into right direction. However, when kicking, please give me some proof, rather than thoughts 🙂 Thanks!

If you post on two Twitter accounts could be rated as duplicate content
I have a personal Twitter account which is building up, but I also have a Twitter account for my holiday letting agency and until now I’ve always separated the subject of the tweets and links to my websites but I’m using Buffer which automates your tweets in advance and so I included some of the links to my business holiday letting agency articles on my personal account and people seem to like them and have shared them, but is there any risks to doing that regarding duplicate type of content? At the end of the day some the people on my personal Twitter will be interested in my agency tweets about holiday accommodation, I just want to do anything which could be termed spam.

How To Use Followerwonk and Twitter for outreach link building
I'm wondering if anyone can help me with how to use follower wonk and twitter for outreach link building and offer any strategies. I'm using the following method but perhaps there are more efficient ways of doing it or other software that can aid the process. As I understand it it's a case of searching bios on followerwonk based on keywords and at the minute I'm selecting targets by social authority. (Is that the best metric or the there another one that's better?). I'm basically then following users in my niche and hoping that they follow me back. Those that do I'm then visiting their website based on the url in their twitter bio and running it through OSE to check the domain authority to see if the site authority is high enough to warrant listing them as a potential link target. If so I'm communicating with them by sharing their content, mentioning them or direct messaging them complimenting them on an article or such like. My aim is to build a relationship and eventually achieve a guest post or backlink somehow. Is this how the process should work?

How to autofollow anyone who tweets/retweets my blog?
I'm not sure if here is the right place for this Q but since followerwonk is one of the SEOmoz tools, I thought I'd try. I want to autofollow anyone who tweets or retweets specific URLs (my blog posts on a large blog). Does anyone know how to do this? They often don't @mention me in the tweets, I just see them all on topsy. I get 50-100 a day and at the moment have been manually going through and following all those people. It's been a useful exercise so far to see what types of people are tweeting my stuff, but now it has got super tedious!

I have 3 different niches - Should I create 3 different Social Profiles/hubs?
So I have 3 completely different niches. As in B2B vs. B2C, as well as markets that are not related whatsoever. Unless your grandmother that likes to sew, just so happens to also love to demolish giant buildings (lol, I never thought about how polar opposite my niches were until I re-read that sentence). Anyways, I guess the company should also have profiles/hubs, but what about for Outreach? I feel like outreach should be done by a personal profile, since outreach is all about networking and building relationships. Any direction/help/tips here? Thanks everyone, Tyler A.

Building links to a Twitter/social account
I've seen plenty of articles about using Twitter to build links, but how about building links to a Twitter account? Does registering on sites and directories like Topsy, Twellow and Klout help? We can link to Twitter accounts on our own websites and other social profiles, and use it as our link on blog comments etc, but is there anywhere else specific?
