      Hi,

      Currently, we having the following URL Structure o our product pages:

      • All Products Pages: www.viatrading.com/wholesale/283/All_Products.html
      • Category Page: www.viatrading.com/wholesale/4/Clothing.html
      • Product Page: www.viatrading.com/wholesale/product/LOAD-HE-WOM/Assorted-High-End-Women-Clothing-Lots.html?cid=4

      Since we are going to use another frontend system, we are thinking about re-working on this URL Structure, using something like this:

      • All Products Pages: www.viatrading.com/wholesale-products/
      • Category Page: www.viatrading.com/wholesale-products/category/
      • Product Page: www.viatrading.com/wholesale-products/category/product-title/

      I understand this is better for SEO and user experience. However, we already have good traffic on the current URL Structure.

      1. Should we use same left-side filters on Category Pages as in All Products Page?
      2. Since we are using Faceted Navigation, when users filter the Category (e.g. Clothing) they will see same page as Clothing Category Page. Is that an issue for Duplicate Content?
      3. Since we are a wholesale company - I understand is using "/wholesale/products/" in URL for all product pages a good idea? If so, should we avoid word "wholesale" in product-title to avoid repeated word in URL?
      4. For us, SKU in URL helps the company employees and maybe some clients identify the link. However, what do you think of using the SEO-friendly product-title, and 301 redirect it to www.viatrading.com/BRTA-LN-DISHRACKS/, so 1st link is only used by company members and Canonicalized 2nd is the only one seen by general public?

        #1 In general, in our case same filters would apply for all / unique categories. So I assume we would use them all

        #2 For the issue about having same content on All Filtered vs Category page.
        Wouldn't this be solved with Canonical URLs?

        e.g. we currently have this URL: https://www.viatrading.com/wholesale/2/Electronics.html?hideSearchBox=false&keywords=&cid=2&facetNameValue=Category_value_+Electronics

        with the same content as: https://www.viatrading.com/wholesale/2/Electronics.html
        But both have Canonical for the 2nd.

        Just to make sure, is that SEO-friendly?

        #3 Isn't including keywords in URL a best practice though?

          1. Which filters you use really depends on which filters apply. This shouldn't really affect SEO at all. Just focus on what will be easiest for your user base.

          2. This could potentially cause an issue, but depends on how it is implemented. More info straight from Google: https://webmasters.googleblog.com/2014/02/faceted-navigation-best-and-5-of-worst.html

          3. If you don't sell retail products, don't include "wholesale" in the URL. Google and users prefer shorter URLs. Don't put them in the product titles or slugs either (slugs being the last part of the URL, i.e. /products/my-product-name = my-product-name is the slug).

          4. Couldn't you put the SKU right on the PDP, so if employees search by SKU they find the correct product anyway? Seems like a lot of extra overhead setting up 2 URLs for every product and then redirecting and canonicalizing everything. There's a lot of potential for mistakes.

            This is a question for the organic SEO experts, once you added the main keyword that you want to rank for in the homepage title, meta title plus meta description, perhaps once or twice in the text on the homepage. How often do you then write it in the content marketing, say blog posts, we want to rank higher on Google for "SEO agencies Cardiff" however if you mention this in the blog posts too much say once a week, this could lead to over optimisation issues?

            Page Title Length

            Hi Gurus, I understand that it is a good practice is to use 50-60 characters for the a page title length. Google appends my brand name to the end of each title (15 characters including spaces) it index. Do I need to count what google adds as part of the maximum recommended length? i.e.  
            is the maximum 50-60 characters + the 15 characters brand name Google adds to the end of the title or 50-60 including the addition? Many thanks!

            City Name in URL structure

            I have a client whose site was built when they only served one market, and they now have that city in the majority of their URLs. I'm suggesting we redo the URL structure to remove this location from the main URLs (think homepage, about, etc.) since they have now expanded to three markets. They are seeing a lot of great organic traffic in that original market but are struggling in the new ones they've added so I'm helping to optimize their site. How critical do you think that removing that location from the URL is? I know we would need to implement 301 redirects, but wanted to get thoughts on this.

            Why are http and https pages showing different domain/page authorities?

            My website www.aquatell.com was recently moved to the Shopify platform.  We chose to use the http domain, because we didn't want to change too much, too quickly by moving to https.  Only our shopping cart is using https protocol.  We noticed however, that https versions of our non-cart pages were being indexed, so we created canonical tags to point the https version of a page to the http version.  What's got me puzzled though, is when I use open site explorer to look at domain/page authority values, I get different scores for the http vs. https version.  And the https version is always better.  Example:  http://www.aquatell.com DA = 21 and https://www.aquatell.com DA = 27.  Can somebody please help me make sense of this?  Thanks,

            Home page keyword in url

            I have been looking into SEO for a few weeks now trying to perfect a homepage. Going through various sources on MOZ, and other examples out there on the internet, I keep seeing that you should have your keyword in the URL of the page. The homepage is the page most people want to rank the highest in google searches, however, you cannot put the keyword in the URL as most home page URLs are simply /. Should I actually make the home like this: www.example.com/key-word-example? I would imagine this would not be the normal for many users and would seem like it's not the home page.

            Category page canonical tag

            I know this question has been asked a few times on here but I'm looking for very specific advice. Currently when you go to a category, say http://www.bronterose.co.uk/range.html, a canonical tag is added to the head of the page. There are plenty of "variant" pages which carry the same tag, for example: /range.html?p=2
            /range.html?p=3
            /range.html?dir=asc&order=price
            /range.html?dir=asc&limit=all&order=price Is it wise to push the "link juice" for each of these variant pages to the top level page? Or should each variant page have its own unique canonical tag? After reading many blog posts, guides and papers I'm truly confused! Any general guidance or recommendations would be much appreciated.             How to Define Best URL Structure for Product Pages?

            I am working on my website to edit structure with help of Google's search engine optimization starter guide. There is really good instruction to define URL structure which help us to perform well over Google's organic search. I have resolved issues regarding category pages but, I have confusion to define best URL structure for product pages. My website's product page URL structure is as follow. http://www.vistastores.com/marketumbrellas-californiaumbrella-slpt758-f13-red.html http://www.vistastores.com/homefurniture-winsomewood-93630.html URL structure is constructed with following terms. 1. Root Category Name (Market Umbrellas or Home Furniture or ....) 2. Brand Name 3. Manufacturer Part Number I am not happy with this structure and also not performing well over Google's organic search. I am thinking to include product name or title tag in URL after root domain. But, it may create very long URL and create issues in organic search display. Does it really matter to perform well over Google's organic search? How can I define best URL structure for product pages?
