Why will my page description not update??!!
-
I updated my page title and description along time ago, the title updated but not the description.
I updated it in google search console, but it keeps pulling the first few lines from the page content instead, which isn't really an attention grabbing sentence??
Any ideas?
Here's the page http://thumannagency.com/personal-insurance/home-insurance
This is what my Title/ description comes up as...
Homeowners Insurance Quotes Dallas TX | Thumann Agency
thumannagency.com/personal-insurance/home-insuranceWhen shopping for homeowners insurance in Dallas, TX our local agents will provide you with home insurance quotes from highly rated home insurance ...
-
Yeah, I thought that may have been the reason. Thank you for your help and my spelling correction.

When we create meta descriptions in our headers, those are only suggestions to Google. It will show what it decides is most relevant to the searcher and what it shows will depend on the user's search term.
For example, I just searched on: "thuman agency homepage" and saw:
Thumann Insurance Agency | Commercial Insurance Dallas, TX Blog · Contact ... An Independent Insurance Agency in Dallas, TX ... Our agency specializes in commercial insurance for Texas, ranging from business owner ...And "thumann agency dallas tx" brought up:
"Thumann Insurance Agency | Commercial Insurance Dallas, TX Get the most competitive rates & exceptional customer service from the Thumann Agency in Dallas. Specializing in all commercial & personal coverage's."That search brought up several sitelinks as well. ["coverages" should not have the apostrophe, btw] You can also see that the words I used to search were made bold.

Are descriptive titles better?
I'm thinking about changing the page titles on my website and wanted to know if it is a good idea to help improve SEO! Using a page 'training and engagement' as an example (as is on the dropdown), the page title itself is actually 'Providing the skills to make the change stick.' Is that long descriptive title negatively effecting me? Or should I change it to 'Training and Engagement'? Any help would be greatly appreciated 🙂 Sam

Can you canonical from one domain page to a different domain page
We are a boating site and have our main site with all it's products. We have an engine section within our main site. But we also have an outside domain, specific to a certain manufacturer of engines. So we want our customers to still find the engine information for this manufacturer within our main site, as well as find the manufacturer targeted engine site in the SERPS. My question is this: Can I canonical those pages within our main site to pages on the outside domain? Or does are canonicals to be used only within the same domain? Thanks,

Which page to rank for a Keyword? Home Page or Deep Page?
So, we have a situation where there is one particular keyword we want to rank for. We have been up and down over the years, at our best probably position 4-5, and now at 20ish. Thats for our home page of course, which the majority of our linking is probably pointing at. We also have a sub page which is optimised for that particular service. The term is "web design brisbane".

So as you can imagine, Web Design is in itself a service and we offer others. Should we optimise our home page for it and remove the sub page?
Keep the sub page because its one our services and optimise both?
Do some kind of canonical thing?
Change our interlinking? All our competitors home pages seem to be the ones that rank, and it feels and looks better in results if its the home page, but if switching up to our sub page is better im all ears. Also if our sub page is somehow hurting or leaking SEO from the home page, id like to know as well. Would prefer to not have to provide a link, due to competition but if someone wants to know we can always PM.0 -
Your thoughts on page navigation
Hi again SEOmoz community. What are your thoughts on mainpage navigation. How it should be handled? Scenario 1. - links to the main sections with a mouse rollover feature where it shows subsections of the main sections Scenario 2. - links to the main sections, but the subsections are hidden and only visible on the click Scenario 3. links to the main sections and subsections allways visible I would like to hear you oppinions on this. What did you find as the best featrue, or did you try to find someting new entirely. What do you think would be the best scenario SEO wise and in the light of keeping links on page in decent numbers 🙂 Imo, Scenario 2 is the option to go with. Tnx in advance for all your replys. Sincerely, sinisa

Limiting On Page Links
Right now, we have about 160 or so links on the home page. It's been recommended that we keep it to under 100, though that's not as big of a deal as it once was. Is it helpful to make a bunch of those links "nofollow" in order to preserve link juice? Is it going to make a difference, or be at all helpful? I assume it won't be harmful, especially as a bunch of them are to the same page but on different sections of the page. Would live your advice and thoughts! Thanks!

Landing page too long
In my first seomoz test I have many tilte pages for products that are over 70 charachers long. The part #'s are long like 10-782-10-10-10-PPxxxx etc. All these part #'s are not my key products and I could delete or truncate. My question is if the part numbers are not that important, is it OK to leave them as is or is ranking being damaged because they exist?

If a site has https versions of every page, will the search engines view them as duplicate pages?
A client's site has HTTPS versions of every page for their site and it is possible to view both http and https versions of the page. Do the search engines view this as duplicate content?
