Do I have to create a separate sitemap for my multilingual site?
-
Hi,
I was wondering how should I implement a sitemap for my multilingual site. Currently we have two languanges separated by subdirectories in our site /en (english) and /fr (french) however based on the the articles that I have read there are no clear explanation on the implementation of the sitemap with different languanges. Here are the cases I think is possible for the implementation:
Case 1: One sitemap with all the en and fr pages together with hreflang attribution for each pages
Case 2: One sitemap with only en pages with hreflang attribution for both languages (en and fr)
Case 3: Separate sitemap for en and fr pages with hreflang attribution for both languanges and connect both through sitemapindex creation.
If any of my proposed cases are not possible please let me know the best approach in creating a multilingual sitemap for my site. Appreciate your thoughts regarding this. Thank you!

Thanks a lot Martin, will keep that in mind.

Hello, from my experience, I'd recommend the case 3. It is quite usual that the sitemaps are divided by categories, topics of articles, months etc. so you can actually divide the sitemap by language as well. It's actually a good idea to have multiple shorter sitemaps for keeping them updated and easier to manage.

Would a Search Engine treat a sitemap hosted in the cloud in the same way as if it was simply on /sitemap.htm?
Mainly to allow updates without the need for publishing - would Google interpret any differently? Thanks

Mobile site backlinks?
Hello, Our mobile site redirects to desktop in a desktop browser and vice versa; however, they are different sites. This said, shouldn't the backlinks for our mobile site be the same as for our desktop site since one redirects to the other. We show no backlinks in my analysis? Any help or insight would be extremely appreciated! Thank you!

Site's IP showing WMT 'Links to My Site'
I have been going through, disavowing spam links in WMT and one of my biggest referral sources is our own IP address. Site: Covers.com

IP: 208.68.0.72 We have recently fixed a number of 302 redirects, but the number of links actually seems to be increasing. Is this something I should ignore / disavow / fix using a redirect?0 -
Sitemap international websites
Hey Mozzers,Here is the case that I would appreciate your reply for: I will build a sitemap for .com domain which has multiple domains for other countries (like Italy, Germany etc.). The question is can I put the hreflang annotations in sitemap1 only and have a sitemap 2 with all URLs for EN/default version of the website .COM. Then put 2 sitemaps in a sitemap index. The issue is that there are pages that go away quickly (like in 1-2 days), they are localised, but I prefer not to give annotations for them, I want to keep clear lang annotations in sitemap 1. In this way, I will replace only sitemap 2 and keep sitemap 1 intact. Would it work? Or I better put everything in one sitemap? The second question is whether you recommend to do the same exercise for all subdomains and other domains? I have read much on the topic, but not sure whether it worth the effort. The third question is if I have www.example.it and it.example.com, should I include both in my sitemap with hreflang annotations (the sitemap on www.example.com) and put there it for subdomain and it-it for the .it domain (to specify lang and lang + country). Thanks a lot for your time and have a great day,Ani

On-Site Sitemaps - Guidance Required
Hi, I am looking to find good examples of on-site sitemaps. We already submit our XML sitemap regularly through GWMT but I now wonder if we still need an on-site sitemap, as we have about 30 static pages and 300+ Wordpress blogs which in a sense makes that a spammy page as it has too many links and a higher than average keyword density. The reason I am looking for good examples is that I want to create a basic on-site sitemap that aids navigation but is styled to look ok as well. The Solution I have in mind: mydomain.com/link-example-one.php
Technical SEO | | tdsnet
mydomain.com/link-example-two.php
mydomain.com/liink-example-ten.php mydomain.com/blog then links to my 300 WP blogs, broken down into chunks navigated by using breadcrumbs. Will Google crawl this ok or should I stick to the current format listing ALL posts on one page? Thanks0 -

Canonical on ecommerce site
I have read tons of guides about canonical implementaiton but still am confused about how I should best use it. On my site with tens of thousands of urls and thousands of afiiliates and shopping networks sending traffic, is it smart to simply add the tag to every page and redirect to the same url. In doing this would that solve the problem of a single page having many different entrances with different tracking codes? Is there a better way to handle this? Also is there any potential problems with rolling out the tag to all pages if they are simply refrencing themselves in the tag? Thanks in advance.
