Question About Local SEO
-
Hey all,
If a business operates in one city but works with associated organizations across multiple regions how would this impact a local SEO campaign?
For example, a transportation company is located in Texas but services the Northwest and New England by outsourcing to smaller transportation companies in each of those regions. Would it be wise to create pages for each region they service on their website and then break that down in further into specific cities?
Also, would it be worth targeting local search terms even though specific cities are serviced by the associated organizations and not the parent company itself?
Thanks in advance,
Andrew

All good answers. Thank you Miriam. Definitely cleared things up a bit.

Hi Andrew,
I agree with Jason that there are some nuances to this situation that could make it easy to give wrong advice (I also agree with him that Phil is a brilliant Local SEO consultant and it might be worth your while to reach out to him for some private consultation, during which you can show him the actual business). In the meantime, it's important to remember that Local SEO hinges on physical location. If Business A is located in Dallas and its airport limos operate from within that city, then this is how Google will see your business and it's what dictates what you can build out local listings for. But as to Business A's subcontracting relationships with Businesses B, C and D in other regions of the country, how you handle this in terms of content development would likely center around things like:
-
Whose brand is being used in those other regions? Is it Business A's brand, or the brands of the subcontractors?
-
What is the exact subcontracting relationship?
-
If the brands being used in the other regions aren't Business A's, could it confuse Google/hurt the business to associate it with these regions where there is no physical presence?
You'll want to dig deep into these questions and others (possibly with a consultant) to arrive at a strategy that helps the business instead of hurting it.

Hi Andrew,
The best guy to speak to about this stuff is Phil Rozek from Local Visibility System.
There are a lot of nuances here, and I don't want to give you the wrong advice without knowing the full detail of what you are trying to achieve and who for, but if it were me I would start with these articles to get a good mental model of how multi region local SEO works and then if you need more info I would book a consult with Phil.

Hey Andrew,
It would impact local SEO only if your associations would appear in the form of links (and possibly mentions on social media). If you are receiving links then your rankings in those particular areas might start rising.
Regarding the pages for other regions, it would make sense only if you are able to create unique and quality content. If so, I'm a fan of this solution.
Looking forward to other's opinions.
Cheers, Martin

Weird SEO Problem - No Longer Ranking in Some Areas
Hi Everyone, I’ve got a weird SEO issue that I hope you’ll be able to help with. I’ve broken it down in to the key points below: Impressions for our primary and secondary keywords dropped dramatically on 02.10.17. Impressions have only dropped on non geographical keywords. “UK” variants are still ranking well. Investigation shows we’re not ranking outside of London at all for primary and secondary keywords. Primary and secondary keywords are still ranking well in London, the city where we’re based We’ve looked at our competition who do rank for the primary keyword both in and outside London. We noticed we have our “postaladdress” in our schema. The competition don’t have their address in their schema. We updated our schema 2 weeks ago and now use the Yoast schema which is the same as our competitors use. Approx 1 week after removing the schema we started showing up for primary and secondary keyword again, but very low - fluctuating between page 15 and page 24. It’s been 2 weeks now and no improvement. AHREFS and google webmaster, both incorrectly detail that we rank top 5. Which is true to a degree, but only in London. Thank you in advance!

SEO Company wants to rebuild site
Hello Community, I am a designer and web developer and I mostly work with squarespace. Squarespace has SEO best practices built into the platform, as well as developer modes for inserting custom code when necessary. I recently built a beautiful website for a Hail Repair Company and referred them to several companies to help them with SEO and paid search. Several of these companies have told this client that in order to do any kind of SEO, they'll need to completely rebuild the site. I've seen some of the sites these companies have built, and they are tacky, over crowded and hard to use. My client is now thinking they need to have their site rebuilt. Is there any merit to this idea? Or are these companies just using the knowledge gap to swindle people into buying more services? The current site is : https://www.denverautohailspecialists.com/ Any advice would be appreciated.

Best SEO Option for Multi-site Set-up
Hi Guys, We have a Business to Business Software Website. We are Global business but mainly operate in Ireland, UK and USA. I would like your input on best practice for domain set-up for best SEO results in local markets. Currently we have: example.com (no market specified) and now we are creating: example.com/ie (Ireland) example.com/uk (united kingdom) example.com/us (united states) My question is mainly based on the example.com/us website - should we create example.com/us for the US market OR just use example.com for the US the market? If the decision is example.com/us should we build links to the directory or the main .com website. To summarize there is two questions: 1. Advise on domain set-up 2. Which site to build links to if example.com/us is the decision. Thank you in advance, Glen.

Can I use a state's slang term for local search?
Have a business located in Indianapolis, Indiana. The business name will be BusinessName Indy. The URL will be BusinessName-Indy.com Since I am using Indy instead of Indianapolis or Indiana, is Google's algorithm smart enough to match up local results to my site?

Do more page links work against a Google SEO ranking when there is only 1 url that other sites will link to?
Say I have a coupon site in a major city and assume there are 20 main locations regions (suburb cities) in that city. Assume that all external links to my site will be to only the home page. www.site.com Assume also that my website business has no physical location. Which scenario is better? 1. One home page that serves up dynamic results based on the user cookie location, but mentions all 20 locations in the content. Google indexes 1 page only, and all external links are to it. 2. One home page that redirects to the user region (one of 20 pages), and therefore will have 20 pages--one for each region that is optimized for that region. Google indexes 20 pages and there will be internal links to the other 19 pages, BUT all external links are still only to the main home page. Thanks.

How do I fix duplicate content issues if the pages are really just localized versions?
Does this still hurt our SEO? Should we place different countries on their own respective domains (.co.uk, etc)?
