Setting up a Affiliate Linking Program

Hello all,
I work for a travel booking agency that specialises in coach and minibus hire.
I am currently thinking about creating a Affiliate Linking Program to create some links for the business. So this could be a suppliers page (similar to a directory page) with details of related companies to ours. We can link to there site and they can link to ours - its win-win situation for both parties.
Is there a difference between a Affiliate Program for links and a business directory on your site?
Has anyone done something similar to this before? What are peoples thoughts?

I just want to add to what Roman has said; I might be reading into this incorrectly, but it appears that you might be under the impression that sites that link back and forth to one another are as valuable as Affiliate Linking Programs. I thought I should interject and just say that doing Link Exchanges has been proven to be detrimental to sites. I mean, just Google "Link Exchanges Bad" and you'll find an endless supply of articles on this...

Is there a difference between a Affiliate Program for links and a business directory on your site?
Yes there is a big difference at least base on my experience affiliate will help you to sell not to rank or get authority as website
Example if I hire Peerfly to promote one of my products and 100 affiliates decide to promote my website or product google will count all those 100 affiliates like just one traffic source. In my case my main affiliate plataform generate 80% of my traffic using 1200 websites and in my Google Analytics Accounts shows me that traffic as one medium

Link Audit
Reviewing a list of links from webmaster console for a client and there are links to their website which render a page but there' s no mention of the clients website on that page. Why does this happen? Why is Google thinking that there is a link to the clients website yet on the page there is no mention of that clients website. There's no comments etc. I don't understand this and if anyone can shed a light??

Linking between properties
I own 3 domains. One is my blog, one is my photography business site, and one is my graphic/web design site. They are all hosted on the same VPS account. I link between each site. Also, since the links are either in the nav, footer or sidebar, all pages from one page link to the homepage of each other. Is this an issue for SEO? Should I not be doing this? Would it be beneficial to use a no follow link instead if I'm to keep them?

Are you careful about linking back to sites that link to you?
Suppose that a trusted website added you to their recommended links page. Do you worry that linking back to them from a page on your site will diminish the value of the original link?

Link exchanges
I have quite a few legal clients and 90% of my clients top competitors are doing 1:1 link exchanges and they have been doing it for years. Other industries Dont seem as prevalent. I am just boggled every time someone says link exchanges don't work, will get penalized, or value is not passed. Its been working for my competitors....Legal SEO's seem to focus heavily on link exchanges. I have yet to do link exchanges, but am about to get started with a resourceful directory of local businesses on my clients site. Some will be linking back, but not all. Fear of penalization is lurking in my mind. Does anyone have any real data on this? Does anyone have an example of doing this properly and an example of how not to do it? A rather simple question, If i have a paragraph and have the words cat, dog and bird would it be a good idea to have them all linking to the same url? or is better to have them all going to different urls?

Reciprocal Link Advice
My client site has a good one-way link from an authority site (in this case a member directory within the industry association). In order to use some data from the industry association on my client's site, the association has requested a link back to their site. Recognising that this will weaken the value of the one-way link, would it be make sense to no-follow the return link? But is there value in linking out to an authority site? What recommendations do you have for this situation? Thanks
