Refferal links
-
I have a site where I can pick up where my hits came from. So if somebody clicks from another website link to visit my website, I will then pick up from which website they came from and also which page they landed on. Will google penalize me for this and see this as paid advertising?
-
It sounds like this wouldn't be an issue (see my reply below) but if Heinrich says different, I'll reply again

Hi Heinrich,
Thanks for the question.
If I've understood correctly, you're not talking about building links, you're talking about recording where someone comes from when they enter your website? Much in the same way that Google Analytics does, but using your own scripts?
If that's correct, then there is nothing to worry about from a Google Penalty perspective. The only thing to be aware of is whether you're also recording personally identifiable information about the person that clicks through, which is a whole other area.
If I've misunderstood, please let me know and I can help further
Cheers!

Ok. Sounds like all you need to do is to no-follow the link in accordance with Google Webmaster guidelines see https://support.google.com/webmasters/answer/2604774?hl=en.

Yes. We have assessments. So the result of these assessment we will send back to the referral company. Like a recruitment company for example. We can also track the referral company when they fill in the inquiry form, and if we generate business out of that inquiry, can pay a commission back to the ref feral company.
-
Is the particular reason you are not using analytics to do the tracking?
-
I would not say it is a paid link. I simply capture the site from where the link came. So for example. Somebody click on Moz, on a link to my site. I would then capture that the person came from Moz. or they googles me, and clicked from there. I would then capture they came from google.

It would be helpful if you could provide a bit more detail.
Paid links are against Google's Webmaster guidelines and can get you penalised. But there are specific ways of handling product adverts (which may contain a link to your site).
I would encourage you to look at Google's Webmaster guidelines.

Multiple Links from High Ranking Site Vs. Links from Multiple Domains - What's More Important?
I understand it is important to get links from many quality domains. Currently, I do have links from top domains (PR, Trust) and it I can get more from (high rank) pages on these same domains. Would it be better to focus on expanding my reach (find additional domains to link from) or to continue to build links from the current domains I have a connection with? What is weighted more? I realize doing both is important, but trying to figure out how to best use my time. Thanks! David

External Links question
As I search for external relevant links to our site, which would be the most important if I had to choose? **How would you rank the three levels as being most important to least important? ** #1 Page Authority, Rank and Trust **#2 **Domain Authority, Rank and Trust. **#3 **Sub-domain Rank and Trust

Total Links vs Ext. Followed Links
Hi I'm fairly new to SEO and SEOMOZ. I've created a campaign for my own site and I've added 3 competitor sites. There are 1,385 total links to my site and a massive 49,450 links to one of my competitor's site. However under "Ext. Followed Links", there are 1,045 to my site and only 911 to the same competitor site. Am I correct that it is the "Ext. Followed Links" which are more important from an SEO point of view as the other links have the "no follow" attribute set? Or have I got this wrong? Thanks James

How can I verify who links to me?
I need to verify all the inbound links I have coming in to my site. I've tried using OSE but have been told it does not scrape many smaller sites so cannot be sure of it's accuracy (especially since when I ran it, it returned a small % of the link i know are out there). Is there a way to do this in Analytics? Or another way? Thanks

Question on Links from Directories…
Hello,
Link Building | | inhouseninja
When I do an OSE back link analyses of some sites that are listed in some directories we are considering, for almost all the directories and companies in them, the directories are listed in the OSE report, listed as followed, and usually have decent domain rank and page rank. So this means that the link from the directory is obviously being picked up by OSE and it’s listed as a followable link. My question is just because the link is picked up by OSE does that mean that the search engines value it too? Or could Google see the link ok but throw it out of the equation, presumably because it does not “like” the directory? Hope this makes sense
