SEO Strategy - Content/Outreach/Links

Hi everyone
I'm trying to prioritise my tasks for 2018 & wondered if anyone had any useful templates they use?
In terms of SEO tasks, my priority was going to be content/outreach/links -
Focusing on user guides/blogs onsite
Then outreach articles/some PR that doesn't go against Google guidelines offsite.
My struggle with the onsite content/blogs we produce is we have no real social media plan/manager so my content outreach always seems hampered by this.
I've tried taking on some of the social stuff, but this ends up being too much for just me to do.
I wondered if there were any other SEOs who face this issue and who have found some good solutions?
I'm stuck in a bit of a rut and can't seem to effectively push forward with outreach/content writing.

For your pages, do you focus pages with similar products on one/a few similar keywords?
Yes. As an example, lets say we sell "coffee makers". We will have a generic coffee maker page that lists many different coffee makers from various manufacturers. When a shopper clicks on one of the coffee maker models, they go to a page that sells the coffee maker, its accessories and its cleaning products. All of these are unique content with very little reuse of the accessory language on other pages.
Do you add written content directly to these pages or focus on creating good user guides etc then link back to these product pages?
We include the most important "user guide" information on the product/accessory page. This is information that helps select the item. We don't list the full user guide information, but give the shopper a link to a much more detailed page of user information. Both of these compete in search and often they appear in positions #1 and #2 in Google search. The product/accessory page might link to several "user guide pages". Sometimes we have positions #1, #2 and #3 in Google for searches on the product itself or product information.
The above is very costly to produce and it requires an author who really knows the product. It is only worth doing where there is good money to be made on a single sale and recurring consumable/accessory/parts/etc. sales are possible.
This type of presentation is intended to make you the expert in the field, rank #1 and inspire people to pay you full MSRP because they know that you know what you are doing rather than being a buy/resell merchant.

Yes, I think this is our issue, we split our product pages to have 1 product per page (for most pages) due to the restrictions we had when displaying multiple products on one page.
The design wasn't very user friendly - but now the issue is multiple product pages focusing on the same keyword.

Neither.
Most of our pages sell multiple products. We have very few "product pages" where one item is purchased. 90% of our sales come from pages that list closely-related groups of products.
Examples...
* A product and its accessories.
* A group of consumables for a hobby or craft activity.
* Multiple closely-related products that people often consider before buying.
* Multiple books about a single or group of closely-related topics.
Why? There are many benefits.
* Reduces the number of pages on the site, thus concentrating linkstrength into a small number of pages.
* Enables the production of pages with substantial amounts of text, images, buying options. We think these rank better.
* When a product goes unavailable or out-of-print or is discontinued, the page continues on.
* When accessories are listed on same page with product it leads to fatter shopping carts.
- When replacement parts are listed on the same page as the product then people feel confident in buying.
* People become familiar with the page about their product and return again and again for consumables, parts, accessories.

As a business they've identified the core categories which attract loyal profitable customers and larger orders.
Our product pages do convert well - when they content/images are right, but I wanted to focus on some categories page to try and generate more traffic/visiibility for these areas.
Do you try to push product or category pages?
I find building links/writing content for one product difficult as a lot of our products focus on v. similar keywords so compete with one another.

I agree. We have thousands of products. But, most of our effort has focused on products that....
* People understand poorly
* Where there is not a lot of information available online or in print
* Where (this is extremely important) a lot of consumables are purchased. That way all of your building is for customers who make recurrent purchases.

As we have such an enormous product portfolio, it feels as though we don't get anywhere quick enough.
I was going to choose 2 core categories, pick 2 sub-categories from these and try to work here first so I have a specific focus.
Things move on so quickly, I find I never get something started properly before moving on.I'm trying to change this for 2018 and narrow my focus for SEO.

We get content ideas from customers. What questions do they ask about products? What concerns do they have about products? What do they say in their reviews of our business and products? What do we feel that they need to know that they don't realize?
A lot of the above comes in to us through email and phone calls. Some we see in reviews that they leave. If you have these channels of communication or feedback from customers, a lot of the most valuable content is right there. All you have to do is package it in text and photos and put it on the website.
So far we have not done much ourselves on social. Our customers do a lot of sharing for us. And, we have a couple friends who have nice followings. They share new content from our site and that brings in a lot of traffic. So go look for who is influential in your niche and see if you might help them get your word out.

Scraped content ranking above the original source content in Google.
I need insights on how “scraped” content (exact copy-pasted version) rank above the original content in Google. 4 original, in-depth articles published by my client (an online publisher) are republished by another company (which happens to be briefly mentioned in all four of those articles). We reckon the articles were re-published at least a day or two after the original articles were published (exact gap is not known). We find that all four of the “copied” articles rank at the top of Google search results whereas the original content i.e. my client website does not show up in the even in the top 50 or 60 results. We have looked at numerous factors such as Domain authority, Page authority, in-bound links to both the original source as well as the URLs of the copied pages, social metrics etc. All of the metrics, as shown by tools like Moz, are better for the source website than for the re-publisher. We have also compared results in different geographies to see if any geographical bias was affecting results, reason being our client’s website is hosted in the UK and the ‘re-publisher’ is from another country--- but we found the same results. We are also not aware of any manual actions taken against our client website (at least based on messages on Search Console). Any other factors that can explain this serious anomaly--- which seems to be a disincentive for somebody creating highly relevant original content. We recognize that our client has the option to submit a ‘Scraper Content’ form to Google--- but we are less keen to go down that route and more keen to understand why this problem could arise in the first place. Please suggest.

HTML5: Changing 'section' content to be 'main' for better SEO relevance?
We received an HTML5 recommendation that we should change onpage text copy contained in 'section" to be listed in 'main' instead, because this is supposedly better for SEO. We're questioning the need to ask developers spend time on this purely for a perceived SEO benefit. Sure, maybe content in 'footer' may be seen as less relevant, but calling out 'section' as having less relevance than 'main'? Yes, it's true that engines evaluate where onpage content is located, but this level of granular focus seems unnecessary. That being said, more than happy to be corrected if there is actually a benefit. On a side note, 'main' isn't supported by older versions of IE and could cause browser incompatibilities (http://caniuse.com/#feat=html5semantic). Would love to hear others' feedback about this - thanks! 🙂

How to avoid seo loss after URL restructuring / change?
We are doing On Page SEO over haul of our website. Our old url used to be mydomain.com/send/FlowersInCity-1-CityName.html we are changing it to mydomain.com/send/Flowers-to-CityName Firstly, will it be advisable to do so since we are in the top 10 in most of the Keywords (but losing ranking each month): The website is very content rich site. Till beginning of 2012, we used be in the top three spots mostly due to On Page and Good content, thus getting the inbound links automatically. But now the things have change, industry has lot of competition and few players have already done heavy SEO for their website, both On and off page thus overtaking us in Ranking. We are also doing other requisite On Page and Off Page work but I am struck with the URL decision part. Secondly, and MOST IMPORTANTLY – if I should change the url, how to minimize the risk of losing the present SEO in this kind of URL restructuring case? Thanks Suman

What are the different tactics for getting ranked/ included in Google finance searches such as http://www.google.com/finance/company_news?q=NASDAQ:ADBE
I don't know what ranking factors they are using for this feed. The results vary greatly from a search done at google.com or google.com/news and google.com/finance I'm working with a website that regularly publishes finance-related news and currently gets traffic from google finance. I'm wondering what we can do to optimize our news articles to possibly show more prominently or more often. Thanks

Need help/insights. Site SEO = OK, Authority BLs = OK, Rank page #1\. How to reach pos #1?
Hi there! Some doubts are confusing my head and need some assistence from you to get on the right track. I'll explain my situation and want to hear from you what do you really recommend for med/long term permanent results. 1 - I have a PR2 (.com.br) domain; 2 - I'm talking about little/med competition micro-niche keywords; 3 - I got all pages I want to, indexed (I have a well SEO constructed website with internal link building); 4 - If a keyword has average competition, I'll already start ranking in page #3 on the SERP's; For a few low competition keywords I start on page #1; 5 - I do a little whitehat link building, 1 or 2 backlinks on authority sites and then like 15 days later I came to page #1, generally on position 9/10; And then I got stucked 🙂 No more authority sites where I can get backlinks... I do some posts on the company twitter/facebook page's, but they are no follow, so I don't really now if this can help. (never see a SERP result). I did some "blackhat" stuff to see if it really work: I can say for sure the "profile backlinks" that we can buy from some sites doesn't work (maybe it's just for me). I can't see it on webmaster tool and neither my ranks changed since I bought a pack of 100 links (the links are working, I see it one by one) to test. Maybe the problem is about the domains, cause my site is .com.br and I'm buying .com profile links. I guess google understand backlinks from .com.br more valuable for my sites. Back to whitehat: I wrote some articles and posted it the right way, of course on .com.br articles sites, got it indexed and can see the backlink on webmaster tool, but no change on SERP's. (maybe this can be a long term result and I'm not seeing it yet). I'm really "scratching my hand" to do some blackhat stuff, but I don't want to lose what I already have done... I heard a lot about scrapebox but doesn't fell confortable to spam as hell a lot of blogs. I really want long term permanent results (my sites are totally whitehat/corporate sites). Can you expert guys give me some point to where I need to "walk" now to improve the SERP's? I never reached top #1 and want to try to rank at least one time to understand how this can be made... I'm thinking now to pay someone to rewrite 20 copies of an article and up it on some sites, to see if 20 can improve something. But still no confident, because it will cost like $100 for a good writer do it for me on my language. Maybe I can do better things with 100 bucks. I guess I did the path right: Internal SEO -> got indexed -> backlinking from authorities -> new articles backlinks to me (is it ok at this position or no?) -> (what next ?) I know SEO is a hard/never ending work, but what I'm trying to get cleaned on my head is the path of the work (if a right path really exists). Every word will be apreciated. What do you can suggest to me to try now? (please give me a hint to see SERP's results 🙂 if I feel that something worked, no matter how it can cost to me, but I'll pay for the work happily) Sorry if I'm a little confusing, english isnt' my first language.
